The Omega Princess and Her Two Leashes - Chapter 28
Chapter 28
It had been her who wanted to become the Crown Prince’s consort. Arlenrose had naturally refused, but as Violet had argued, there was no other way to infiltrate the royal family at such a high level. After much deliberation, Arlenrose had eventually agreed and carefully set the stage.
And so, Enrique had met a beautiful woman resembling a fairy in the Snowdrop Garden, where he often stopped after his stealth missions. She was a pitiful omega who had badly injured her ankle and couldn’t move.
Unlike the jaded omegas of the palace, she blushed and seemed at a loss whenever he touched her fingertips. Enrique, who had been concealing his identity, met Violet several more times before bringing her to the palace as his consort.
She had been prepared for the fact that Violet would eventually become pregnant with Enrique’s child and give birth. Nevertheless, it still pained her to see it happen in reality. She might even have to entertain the Crown Prince in that state.
Arlenrose clenched her fists at the thought. Violet might hope that the Crown Prince would grow fond of her and visit her often, but Arlenrose couldn’t allow that.
‘That lecher.’
Anger flared within her again as she recalled Crown Prince Leybid’s handsome face. She wished he would reject Violet, but he was such a frivolous person that he would probably accept her without question. He seemed to be fond of any omega who was even slightly unique.
“What has you so preoccupied?”
Arlenrose was startled out of her thoughts by a sudden voice. She turned her head to see Camin’s green eyes gazing down at her.
“I was thinking that I hope the peace treaty with the Empire goes well.” Arlenrose replied with a reflexive, gentle smile. Camin’s expression softened.
“I was worried, but it seems you’re alright.”
“Worried about what?”
“I was worried that you might be upset by what His Highness the Crown Prince said.”
He was worried about that? Arlenrose’s eyes widened in surprise. The green eyes looking at her were as clear and honest as ever today. They were the color of verdant leaves, full of trust and loyalty. They didn’t seem to suspect her at all.
She wa deceiving someone with eyes like these.
Not only deceiving him, but also constantly wary of him. Just a moment ago, hadn’t she been on guard against the possibility that he suspected her?
The princess and the knight were far from what they seemed, for they were actually enemies. He was the supreme Alpha and a knight protecting the kingdom, while she was a mere Omega and the leader of a revolutionary army that sought to overthrow the kingdom’s system.
Just yesterday, she and him had fought, swords clashing. He had blocked the fleeing revolutionaries and even killed her comrades.
Yet she could not bring herself to hate him entirely. Nor could she love him wholly. She simply lingered by his side with conflicting emotions. A sudden wave of guilt washed over her as she recalled this fact. Pretending to ignore the feeling, Arlenrose smiled once more.
“Not at all. Your words are valid, and there is no reason to be offended. Sir Camin said the same thing to me.”
“Actually, I have been carrying a heavy heart ever since I said those words to you…”
Camin sighed, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.
“Had I known that His Highness would say the same, I would not have repeated myself. I apologize for making you hear such unpleasant words twice.”
“Isn’t it better this way, since I’ve come to realize how important the matter is?”
“No, it is not. Your Highness is someone who would have understood with just one hearing.”
Camin let out another sigh, his expression somber. Arlenrose could not understand why he seemed so apologetic when, in retrospect, his words had not been particularly hurtful.
He must be overly sensitive. Arlenrose found herself feeling apologetic as well, due to Camin’s excessive remorse. He even bowed his head.
“Additionally, I apologize for not being able to provide you with any clues. His Royal Highness requested my silence…”
“I understand. I only asked on a whim in the first place, so I am not particularly curious. Please do not worry about it, Sir Camin.”
Arlenrose smiled, her tone relaxed.
Of course, she was curious. In fact, she wanted to grab him right now and demand to know the color of the clue—the hair. However, she could not do that. In fact, she could not let even a hint of her curiosity show.
