“Wouldn’t it be better to just handle it?”
“We should have done it sooner if that were the case. It’s a bit tricky to touch her now, especially when Duke Klausener is keeping an eye on us.”
If it weren’t for that issue, she would have taken care of Katya right after the engagement party.
As the Empress attempted to prevent the union of House Klausener and the Weaving Guild, it was Augusta herself who chose Katya for the task.
Failure in that task alone would be enough for the Empress to be angry. Thus, Augusta needed to clean up after herself before taking another responsibility.
‘She doesn’t even know grace. How dare she threaten me?’
It was Augusta who had persuaded the reluctant Empress to give Katya a chance. Nevertheless, Katya had been running the organization quite efficiently for a while, and she was satisfied with it.
The unaware maid asked,
If Duke Klausener is identifying the organization belonging to that Borjans man, wasn’t there still a risk of exposure, one way or another?”
“That’s already been taken care of, so don’t worry. The fact that Countess Schneider was meeting her former lover even after getting married is truly a disgrace.”
Augusta said gloomily.
The results of the special investigation team’s investigation would unfold as she had described.
If Katya wanted to live a little longer, it would be better for her to remain quiet.

17. The Ledger with Arren’s name
Claire had a dreadfully tiring dream.
She was being chased down the streets at night, and though she felt pursued, there were no actual sounds of footsteps following her. The street lights flickered, emitting a faint buzzing sound.
She wasn’t sure who was chasing her. Probably zombies… or something of the sort. She was somewhat pleased to see a horror movie again after a long time. But she had no desire to be in it.
The same goes for thrillers.
HOOOOONK!
The truck’s horn blared loudly, producing a long and resounding noise like a boat horn. The orange headlights pierced through her body in an instant.
Someone embraced her.
“Ack!”
She screamed in terror as she jumped up from the bed.
“Master!”
Martha, who had been dozing off on the couch in one corner of the bedroom, got up and rushed over. Clutching the blanket, Claire blinked her eyes absentmindedly.
“Ah.”
It was a dream showing her past life.
She had forgotten about it for a long time. Honestly, she knew how the truck had come, but she didn’t remember the moment of her death itself.
She had vaguely thought she must have died instantly. She didn’t think her past life was particularly memorable, and she believed she was lucky not to have experienced pain when she died.
But it seemed that wasn’t entirely true.
“Did you have a nightmare? How are you feeling? I’ll call Dr. Brent.”
“I’m fine. It’s nothing… agh!”
It was definitely not nothing. Claire realized for the first time that cramps could occur in her chest as well.
The muscles that had been tense all night seemed to be protesting, demanding the pain belatedly.
“Baron!”
The door burst open, and Roger and Brent rushed in. Claire reassured them by waving her hand from the bed, but it had little effect.

Erich let out a sigh as he opened the bathroom door and entered.
“You really startled me. I heard you scream for them to get out of the bedroom.”
Submerged in the warm bathwater, Claire exhaled a sigh.
Her hair, when spread out in the water, looked red.
“No, I just had a cramp, but they wouldn’t believe me.”
“It’s because of the incident last night, so maybe your muscles are still tense.”
Erich’s hand slipped into the water. Claire let out a mixture of pain and pleasure as his grip on her shoulders tightened.
“It really did hurt, you know. It was so painful for a moment, I thought I was having a heart attack.”
“Don’t scare me like that.”
“Mmh… it feels good there.”
Claire’s toes curled up. She couldn’t help but think back to the events of last night.
It felt like her brain had exceeded its processing capacity, and now it all seemed so distant, even more distant than Erich washing her feet.
She felt somewhat embarrassed, so she decided to submerge herself in the water, but there wasn’t even any foam to hide behind.
“But why are you casually intruding into someone else’s bathing time?”
“You act like you’re surprised.”
“This and that are two different issues.”
“Should I leave then?”
His hand moved away, and Claire unknowingly grabbed his shirt. His white shirt was soaked.
“Just… stay.”
Blushing all the way to her ears, Claire lowered her head. It felt uncharacteristic of him to do this so she felt more awkward than embarrassed. But still, she didn’t want to be alone.
“Hm.”
Erich let out a subtle voice. Claire hunched her shoulders, expecting teasing or sarcasm, but he didn’t say anything of the sort. Instead, he reached out his arm.
He pulled her from behind, gently stroked her shoulder and collarbone.
Claire let out a sigh of relief and closed her eyes.
“If you’re tired, you can sleep. When your body has relaxed enough, I’ll carry you out.”
“It’s not that bad. I just, well.,I had a nightmare.”
Perhaps, the arms that had embraced her at the end of that dream were Erich’s. Claire had that feeling.
“Mmh.”
His hand lightly massaged her shoulders and neck then gently clenched her chin, applying a slight pressure.
“Relax. Don’t clench your teeth.”
“Ah…”
Claire consciously relaxed her jaw. Erich’s lips drew closer without missing her lips opening.
“Ha.”
A mixture of a short moan and a sigh was sucked into his mouth. Claire realized that she had been tensing her tongue as well.
Erich, as if telling her to relax even there, touched it gently.
“Mnh.”
As the tension released completely, Claire felt her entire upper body relax suddenly. Erich withdrew his lips and said,
“This is troubling.”
“What do you mean?”
“It’s true that I wanted you to relax, but you shouldn’t have relaxed this much in front of me.”
