Chapter 30.2
The student in front of her went through the familiar confirmation and took a step forward. Judging by the uniform, they weren’t a new student.
The administrator glanced at her attire and then changed the list.
“Documents.”
The tone was curt and quite authoritative. Ariel carefully held out the transfer documents she had prepared.
The administrator, who had been checking the documents without hesitation, suddenly went silent. He stepped back as if frightened, then quickly changed his demeanor. Clearly flustered, he alternated between looking at her and her documents, his voice trembling.
“Why… Why have you come this way…! No, please forgive my rudeness for not recognizing you earlier!”
He even bent his waist to the point where his head almost touched the ground, as if apologizing wasn’t enough. Ariel was embarrassed by the sudden change in the administrator’s demeanor.
“I’m sorry, but if there’s any problem with…”
“There’s no need to be polite. Please speak informally!”
The administrator, who had been overbearing just moments ago, now pleaded for her to speak informally. Because of that, the attention of everyone around focused on her. Dozens of eyes flicked back and forth between her and the documents before adopting the same stern expression as the administrator.
‘Why is he acting like this… Is there something wrong with my documents?’
When Ariel lowered her head to check her transfer documents, Skylar’s signature stood prominently in the spot adorned with a golden eagle.
“Ah…”
She belatedly realized the reason for their reaction.
The empire was characterized by an immensely powerful central system accompanied by serious class disparities, where the authority of certain bloodlines was so deeply ingrained in law. When an imperial family appeared, most people had to bow their heads and kneel. Making any noise was usually not permitted.
It was the signature of a prince with such authority and the seal of the imperial family.
No matter how many nobles there may be, how many people would have received the signature of the imperial family? There were even commoners mixed in here. Therefore, the protection of the highest level of power came as a tremendous shock to them. Following their astonishment, those who were overcome with awe-like emotions became speechless in an instant.
The surroundings naturally fell silent, with only occasional murmurs from those at the back.
Ariel, standing at the center, unintentionally became the eye of the storm.
Eyes filled with tension as if witnessing someone significant focused on her. Feeling suffocated, she had to get out of this place quickly. She hid documents in her arms at the thought and opened her mouth with difficulty.
“I…”
As she began speaking with honorifics, those around her fell into contemplation in an instant.
Ariel remembered that she was carrying Skylar’s name on her back. If she didn’t show deference, it would only intimidate those who were listening instead.
“…Where should I go?”
The administrator finally came to his senses when she adjusted her tone.
“I apologize for the delay in responding. I’ll escort you to the dormitory shortly.”
He seemed to have calmed down somewhat and adopted a courteous posture without overdoing it. The next moment, he turned away and gestured urgently to someone, and a maid hurried forward. He whispered something to the maid who approached him.
As soon as the maid heard the words from the manager, she ran off somewhere in a hurry.
“Please wait a moment.”
The administrator bowed his head again.
Ariel simply nodded her head. She felt like the administrator would be horrified again if she asked any more questions. Thankfully, a car arrived at the main gate from inside the academy not long after.
‘There are cars inside the academy, too?’
While she wondered, the administrator spoke to the window of the car in front of her.
“A distinguished guest is here, so escort her carefully.”
The driver nodded.
At his words, the administrator stepped forward and opened the door himself before he called for Ariel.
“I’ll escort you.”
His demeanor was polite, and he had a polite and decisive posture. Ariel found his attitude intimidating. In the meanwhile, the back row was letting out complaints, unaware of the situation in front of them that had suddenly become obstructed. However, they quickly quieted down at the sound of someone shouting. She caught snippets of words like ‘a guest of the imperial family’ or ‘distinguished guest’…
It seemed like those words were referring to her.
Ariel quickly climbed into the car, not wanting any more attention. Fortunately, the driver sensed her quick pace and immediately set off, and the car moved smoothly along the well-paved road. It was only when they moved away from the icy stares at the main gate did Ariel finally felt relieved. Her breathing became easier.
The shade of greenery was cast through the window.
Ariel peered out of the car with curiosity. The metasequoias planted on either side created a splendid landscape. She tilted her head back, looking up at the tall trees.
‘So, they’re using this as a garden tree. It would be nice to have one of these at the Count’s residence.’
Admiring and somewhat enjoying the view, Ariel followed the passing scenery with her eyes. The academy was adorned with meticulously maintained gardens, interspersed between buildings and pathways, emitting a refreshing atmosphere.
‘It’s spacious and nice. Is it as big as the Count’s estate?’
Perhaps because it was quite large, the road continued for quite a long time.
She couldn’t quite gauge the extent of this place’s size.
After a long, boring drive down the main road, the car turned onto a side road and then went straight for a short distance again before it stopped in front of a gate connected to an iron wall. When the driver rolled down the car window, a guard who had been standing by the gate approached. Unlike those at the main entrance, the guards here were dressed in the white uniforms of the imperial knights. This indicated that this area was meant for serving higher ranks.
Ariel glanced beyond the wall, where the dense formation of emerald-green foliage obscured the view. Security was thorough.
‘I wonder who is inside?’
Curiosity filled her as she fixed her gaze. It seemed like at least one or two of the targets would be inside.
Soon, the iron gate opened, and the car entered the secluded area.
