Chapter 271

Ironically, after the message from Rosé and Ferre to Sera appeared, things progressed at a breakneck speed.
It was a stark contrast to the time spent trying to reveal the existence of the demon.
The mages quickly traced the location of Rosé and Ferre, and within less than two days, they pinpointed their whereabouts.
The place Araella pointed out on the map, along with the mages, was an abandoned mansion not far from the palace.
“Are you saying they are here?”
At Helios’s question, Araella and Roward nodded.
“Yes, Your Majesty. It seems they are here.”
“It’s closer than I thought.”
The place marked on the map was a manor that belonged to a countryside fief lord long ago.
It had been famous before the empire centralized power, but had been abandoned for quite some time after the family line ended.
Its location, surrounded by dense forest, made it inconspicuous and defensively advantageous against enemies.
“Your Majesty, the mages are all prepared.”
Roward informed Helios with a serious tone that they were ready.
After a moment of silence, looking at the map, Helios asked Jean,
“How about the knights?”
“We are also ready to march at any moment.”
“Good… I’m relieved…”
The thought of finally finding his younger siblings made Helios breathe a sigh of relief, but his face fell heavily because Sera had stepped forward to seal the demon.
“I’d like to hear your honest opinion about Sera’s condition after sealing the demon. If she fully absorbs the demon, is it possible to neutralize the curse with divine power as it had been done before?”
Helios looked at Araella and Roward with a calm gaze.
Araella, looking uncomfortable as if it was difficult to speak, hesitantly started,
“Your Majesty, frankly, as you saw that day, if a large amount of divine power is infused instantly, the curse can disappear. Like when Lady Sera partially absorbed the demon.”
“And?”
“But we don’t know how much power Lady Sera will be absorbing or how strong the demon is, so…”
“You mean you can’t guarantee the outcome?”
When Helios finished Araella’s trailing sentence, Araella cautiously nodded.
It was a gamble, as he had said to Sera.
A life-risking gamble with an uncertain outcome.
Helios grimly accepted this, his mind going numb and heart wrenching with a bitter laugh.
“Are the priests on standby?”
“Yes, Your Majesty. In addition to the priests for treating the wounded, we have prepared priests for the sealing. They are primarily those who can wield strong holy power, and we’re ready to immediately transfer Lady Sera to the temple once the sealing begins.”
“Will we be departing immediately?”
“We’ll do so first thing tomorrow at dawn.”
Helios replied briefly to Raphael’s question. They couldn’t delay any longer since his younger siblings were captured.
However, Helios’s unspoken anger was directed at Raphael.
Since Raphael had first conveyed that message to Sera, Helios couldn’t ease his heart.
With the uncomfortable sound of a chair scraping, Helios was the first to stand up.
Dressing himself in a manner that clearly indicated he was leaving, he needed to prepare for tomorrow’s encounter with the demon, but no one held him back.
They knew where he was headed.
Sera.
Everyone present was aware of the relationship between Helios and Sera.
They could only swallow their words of comfort, not daring to offer them.

Entering the room where Sera was staying, Helios was at a loss for words and just stood there without taking a seat.
There was much he needed to convey, but somehow, the words he had practiced repeatedly on his way here just wouldn’t come out easily.
“You came early today.”
Sera greeted him with a bright expression, probably guessing what he was about to say. She must have heard the news spreading around the palace Rosé and Ferre being found.
Naturally, her true feelings were probably different, but Helios too forced a heavy smile in response to her attempted normalcy.
“What were you doing?”
Helios glanced lightly at the table where Sera was sitting.
“Just checking the items Lady Araella gave me.”
Organizing scattered clothes and the sacred objects given to her, Sera hurriedly gathered the items.
“We’re going to move… first thing tomorrow morning.”
Helios softly started speaking from behind Sera, who was still organizing her belongings, letting out a sigh of relief as if he was glad they were going to find Rosé and Ferre.
“That’s good.”
“You probably already know, but the priests will be on standby. If we proceed with the sealing, you’ll be immediately transferred to the temple…”
Helios tried to explain once again what was going to happen.
Turning quietly, Sera shook her head at him.
“I think I’ve heard that enough from the knights and the mages, can we talk about something else?”
Sera walked up, took Helios by the hand, and led him to a spacious couch.
With an air of tranquility, she lay down using Helios’s lap as though he was her cushion.
“I always wanted to do this if I were in a relationship.”
“You must have a lot of things you want to do.”
Helios smiled softly as he looked down at her.
Their eyes met, and for a moment, both their expressions hardened before easing.
Both were aware that they were acting as if today might be their last, implicitly burying the possibility in their actions.
“There’s something else I want to do after all this is over.”
With a subdued smile, Sera whispered softly to Helios.
