“What is it? Tell me.”
“I want us to go out together. With Their Highnesses Rosé and Ferre. And I also want to boldly go on dates in public…”
“What kind of dates?”
Helios asked tenderly.
“Well, we’ve always met secretly within palace grounds, so now I want to go out, walk the streets, watch an opera. Things like we did in the imperial villa.”
Helios nodded silently.
“I’ll make it all happen for you.”
Helios and Sera continued to lean on each other, talking for a long while.
As the night deepened and dawn approached, they laughed heartily over trivial matters.
But soon, tiredness overcame Sera, and her words slowed until her eyes closed.
Watching her peacefully fall asleep, Helios asked quietly,
“Are you feeling sleepy?”
There was no response from Sera. Apparently, the last few days of unrest had finally caught up with her, and she had fallen into a deep sleep.
Helios gently picked up Sera and carefully placed her on the bed, then sat across from it.
Sera’s breathing was steady and peaceful, suggesting she was comfortable.
For a long time, he just sat there, quietly watching her face.
As he stepped out of the room and closed the door, Jean and Raphael were waiting for him.
“Heli.”
And the warmth that had lingered on his face from his time with Sera vanished as if it were a lie.
With a cool, almost temperature-less expression, Helios asked in a low, subdued voice,
“Is everything ready?”
* * *
Rosé and Ferre stayed as quiet as dead mice, becoming accustomed to fear so much that they hardly cried anymore.
With nothing to do, they spent their days and nights sleeping, so Rosé, who woke up early in the morning, whispered to Ferre.
“Do you think Oppa and Sera saw our message?”
“I don’t know.”
Ferre shrugged his shoulders up and down.
“Ferre, do you have any regrets?”
“Regrets?”
“Yeah. Maybe we should’ve sent them one by one.”
Rosé said, looking out the window as dawn broke.
There was always regret after action, wondering if there could have been a smarter way. After sending the message to Sera, the thought that sending the brooches one by one on different days might have been better kept coming back.
“It’s useless to regret now. It’s already in the past.”
Ferre replied, uncharacteristically wise, making Rosé’s eyes go round with surprise.
As she was about to say ‘What’s gotten into you!’ Saruvia appeared, opening the door. The two who were lying down sat up and clung to each other, staring at her with full alertness.
Looking amused by the children’s actions, Saruvia clicked her tongue.
“Come here.”
Despite her attempts to be kind, the demon frowned at the annoying behavior of the children.
Scared even by her small movements, as her red eyes flashed, the twins were startled and shook their heads simultaneously.
“No… we don’t wanna.”
“Why, can’t come out? Afraid I’ll eat you?”
Saruvia opened her red mouth as if teasing, revealing sharp, snake-like fangs.
Despite it being a joke, the frightened Rosé flinched and shrank, and Ferre, startled, inadvertently answered truthfully.
“Yes.”
“What?”
Saruvia twisted her lips, letting out a scoffing laugh.
Then, Rosé, who had been clinging to Ferre, turned to look at him as if to say, ‘Why would you say that here! You fool!’ but Ferre still seemed clueless about what was wrong.
That’s when Saruvia, watching Rosé and Ferre, shook her head and began to laugh as if she found their reaction amusing.
Her laughter, like that of a madwoman, made Rosé and Ferre freeze. They were too scared to even open their mouths, and she seemed to find that amusing as well.
Gulp. The twins swallowed dryly.
“Helios came to save you because of the message you sent.”
After a long bout of laughter, Saruvia, having had her fill of amusement, changed her expression and spoke to the twins.
The thought of finally seeing Helios made Rosé and Ferre’s faces light up.
But soon, doubts surfaced in their minds, and the twins looked at Saruvia with furrowed brows.
“How did you know we sent a message?”
“You thought I wouldn’t know about the message you two sent?”
Thinking no one had seen them, Rosé and Ferre were quite shocked.
“Enough, come out now.”
Afraid of what she might plan, Rosé and Ferre hesitated to leave.
As the children didn’t move according to her will, Saruvia, growing angry, magically pulled Rosé and Ferre towards her.
“Let go!”
“It hurts! Let us go!”
As their wrists were firmly grasped, Rosé and Ferre struggled in pain, their hands turning increasingly pale from lack of blood circulation.
“This is why I dislike unruly brats.”
Saruvia gripped the children’s wrists even tighter.
Though the struggling children annoyed her, it was now time for a delightful hostage negotiation.
