I Became the Tutor of the Royal Twins - Chapter 223
Chapter 223

“I see, Your Majesty. You’re going to be establishing a school to train imperial mages. It’s certainly groundbreaking, but it won’t be without any backlash. As you know, there were some similar attempts in the past as well.”
Raphael’s troubled gaze turned to Helios.
He was already expecting his aide to react like this, but nonetheless, Helios smiled awkwardly. Raphael’s serious gaze was permeating through his inner thoughts more sharply than he had expected.
“I don’t expect it to be easy. House Cross is sure to protest it right away.”
“Backlash would be an understatement on their part. Most mages have learned magic under House Cross, so it would be exceedingly difficult to gather people for the faculty. Even just asking them for some consultation would be a tall order.”
Raphael rubbed his forehead as he could already see the thorny path ahead.
Letting out a sigh, he cradled his head with one hand.
After a while, Raphael looked up again as though he had realized something, his gaze serious.
“Your Majesty, by any chance…”
As Helios could already guess what Raphael was about to say, he furtively avoided his gaze.
But that didn’t mean Raphael would let him off the hook just like that. Before he knew it, he was now addressing Helios as a childhood friend and not as his liege. There was an uncomfortable look on his face.
“Is it because you have Miss Sera in mind?”
Raphael grumbled then subsequently sighed. After a moment of hesitation, Helios smiled.
“…You already know?”
“There’s no way that I don’t know. It’d be even weirder not to realize it when you’ve been acting so unusually. I mean, I don’t know about that tactless Jean, but I’m not as hopeless as he is. I’ve been suspecting it for a long time now.”
“You have? Since when?”
“Since the two of you watched the fireworks.”
“Ah…?”
Helios was quite surprised to hear Raphael’s answer. That was a long time ago.
Helios realized that he must have been so obvious about it that other people had already started knowing about it since then, but he felt so pathetic because he himself had been so blind to his own feelings.
Catching onto what Helios was thinking, Raphael shook his head. It was the same expression he’d give Helios whenever he would talk about his troublemaker younger siblings.
“So, what are you planning? The quickest way to establish a magic academy is to work together with House Cross, but considering what your ultimate goal is with this project, that’s out of the question. But don’t tell me, you’re considering Miss Popo…”
Raphael’s expression hardened the moment he saw a conflicted look flash across Helios’s eyes.
“Heli, you’re seriously…!”
“I don’t know yet.”
Helios turned his head away vaguely and muttered.
He had been pondering about his decision more deeply ever since what happened at the opera house.
The cause of the ‘accident’ that took away his parents’ lives was still unknown, and it was the same with the incident at the imperial villa not long ago.
So far, no other threat had shown itself in front of Sera, but if that’s the reason he couldn’t bring Sera to his side, then there was only one solution—he’d just have to make sure that the imperial palace was the safest place there could be.
Helios had never allowed himself to want something on a personal level, but this time, he had decided to enact his personal greed to be with Sera.
“Have you already made up your mind?”
“Didn’t my dear friend Raphael say that he’d support me if I go down the path of marrying for love?”
As Helios indirectly answered, Raphael’s expression became clouded.
“The opposition would be enormous. Even the families close to Miss Sera would not be able to accept it willingly.”
“I’m well aware.”
“And you’re still pushing through?”
Helios smiled bitterly as Raphael sharply lay down the facts.
This was why he’d been holding himself back all this time.
There would undoubtedly be considerable opposition, and there would be more than just one or two hurdles to be overcome before reaching the desired conclusion.
Helios had already made up his mind that the best way to protect Sera was to be by her side, but he was still worried about what’s to come later. Undeniably, she would be hurled with countless attacks from the nobles taking issue of her status, and he was worried about whether she’d be able to withstand it all.
After agonizing over it for a long time, Helios heaved out a deep sigh and asked Raphael for help.
“Justification is all in the execution, Raphael. The empire has a long history, and it’s not as if nothing similar has ever happened. It’s quite common to have the other party be adopted into a high-ranking household…”
Cutting him off right away, Raphael shook his head and intervened.
“Heli, if you’re talking about the imperial marriage a few hundred years ago, it’s not at all similar to the current situation. That previous empress did not come from a fallen noble family, she had just been from a bit of a lower status in relation to the emperor. Besides that, the households that jumped to take her as an adopted daughter were all considering politics and nothing but politics.”
Raphael spoke strictly.
“Miss Sera doesn’t have that kind of foundation. If she achieves a major merit, perhaps it could be possible, but as of now, there’s no high-ranking household that’ll take her in.”
“That’s why, Raphael.”
Helios called Raphael with a resolute voice.
Just what are you thinking, really. As Raphael’s complexion got a bit worse in his unease, he was already anticipating what Helios would say next.
“I must succeed in the establishment of this academy. I’m starting it with Miss Popo’s idea in mind, so all credit will go to her.”
“You’re seriously…”
Raphael looked up at the ceiling, utterly speechless. He remained silent for a while, a heavy feeling weighing him down.
The ensuing silence in the office was broken only when a knock was heard from the door.
After being given permission to enter, the person who appeared was the Star Palace’s chief handmaiden, who seemed quite elated. It was a bit of a contrast, what with Helios facing her with a worried expression.
“Your Majesty! Their Highnesses have finally started expressing their mana!”
A big change was coming to both Rosé and Ferre.
* * *
“Uuuuuuugh.”
“Uuuuuuuum.”
They didn’t know that this would happen.
Lying down on a large bed while groaning, Rosé and Ferre put their hands together over their plump little bellies.
“What did the mage say again? How long will we be sick?”
With a ripe red face, Rosé grumbled blankly at the ceiling.
“Uuugh… That grandpa mage said we’ll be sick for six or seven days.”
Looking not much different from Rosé, Ferre whined and answered with difficulty.
“This wasn’t our plan.”
“Yeah, Rosé. The plan’s ruined.”
“Haaaaaaaaa.”
“Haaaaa.”
The twins heaved out a heavy sigh at the same time.
Rosé and Ferre had been concocting a huge, grand plan.
Since the change of seasons to autumn was just around the corner, they had been planning to pretend to be sick with a cold. They would run outside and play, saying, ‘Ohhh, how refreshing!’
And after ‘suddenly’ going down with a cold, they would start acting sick very convincingly to weaken Helios’s resolve. Their ultimate goal was to get permission for Sera to come to the imperial palace.
Of course, under normal circumstances, they wouldn’t have to go through such lengths.
Helios had promised to invite Sera to the palace not long ago, and all the while, they had been excitedly waiting for Sera to come.
However, Helios had been weird again lately, so they had no other choice.
He dragged them to the opera house while saying they’d be able to see Sera there, but since then, he kept making excuses and delayed any mention of Sera’s visit.
Rosé was very sure that her older brother’s erratic actions were all due to love problems.
‘That’s why we have to bring Sera to the palace as soon as possible!’
After the twins put their heads together and thought hard about it, they came up with the solution of a fake illness.
Every time they got sick, Helios would come and heal them with his divine power, and he’d give them a chance to ask for a wish. Each time this happened, he’d become more and more weak against their wishes.
But they didn’t expect to get sick for real.
