Chapter 26.2
Leilia narrowed her eyes and looked at him.
“Do you acknowledge my hard work as Leilia?”
Not as the head of the Hyllan merchants association, but as Leilia. Even though he might not fully grasp the significance of those actions, she still hoped they held some meaning for him.
Cassel bit his lip at her words.
“It meant so much to me.”
He then took her hand and whispered softly.
“You could have lived comfortably.”
At those words, his pupils calmly sank. They fluttered slightly as if he had been somewhat shocked.
“It was tough, but it’s rewarding knowing that Cassel recognizes it.”
Although she didn’t hope for him to know or appreciate her, her heart warmed when he uttered those words.
‘I think it’s a good thing I helped him.’
And in loving him, too.
As Leilia smiled softly, Cassel’s eyes turned red at the sight of that smile.
“Why are you going through so much trouble?”
He seemed on the verge of shedding tears any moment.
“It wasn’t all hard work. It had its own meaning.”
Originally, it was a time she intended to keep as her own cherished memories. She had wanted to find meaning in being Cassel’s wife, the wife of the man she loved, and end it there. However, he had recognized her as a true wife. Even though he had returned as a war hero, his attitude remained unchanged.
She found the courage here.
She had the thought of wanting to stay by Cassel’s side a little longer, of wanting to live as his wife. Even though he didn’t love her, he cared for her. This was so important to her, and his presence was all the more special because there weren’t many people around who cared about her.
Cassel rubbed and sighed, then said to her.
“Leilia makes me want to kiss you again and again.”
His words sounded strangely alluring. Before she could say anything, he approached her as Seychelle quickly stepped into the room.
“I’m going to kiss you.”
In response to his words, Leilia accepted his lips. The sweet kisses from last night continued today.
That afternoon, Leilia and Cassel, accompanied by the attendants and knights brought by Lucis, took a short trip to the outskirts.
5. Travel
Inside the moving carriage, Cassel gazed at the sleeping Leilia. The sunlight touched her hair as she curled up in her chair and fell asleep. Although it wasn’t a cold winter, he was concerned about her sleeping in just a dress, so he covered her with a coat, wondering if she might be surprised when she woke up.
“Leilia.”
He wanted to approach her and smell her scent.
The soft breathing sound she made when they kissed, her petite frame that fit perfectly in his arms, and the subtle fragrance that lingered on her body have always stimulated him.
Being a bit separated like this, he felt longing for them again. Even though she was right beside him, right in front of him, he missed her.
Why was that?
Was it because their hearts weren’t feeling the same way?
As silence hung in the tranquil place, the atmosphere sank down deeply as if aware of his heavy heart.
Leilia Jen Roten.
What did he have to do to be married to her and have her have the same last name as himself?
…A secret that could never be told to her.
As he silently got up and approached where she was sleeping, he heard her breathing. The sound of her breathing, which he had heard after the affair had ended, lingered in his ears.
The thoughts of that moment came back, and his face involuntarily turned red.
He took hold of Leilia’s brown hair and kissed her.
She didn’t get to witness the polite and affectionate kiss.

Feeling a gaze on her, Leilia slowly opened her eyes. She remembered that she had fallen asleep right after getting on the carriage. When she opened her eyes, she saw Cassel sitting across from her, who had removed his coat.
‘The coat…’
It was on top of her. Leilia held the coat as if it were a blanket and looked at him.
“Are you awake?”
It seemed like he was waiting for him to wake up.
“Did I sleep for a long time?”
Leilia was still groggy from sleep.
“You slept for about an hour.”
She hadn’t slept for that long. As she pushed herself up, she was relieved that she hadn’t slept long enough to affect her evening.
“Thank you.”
When she handed him the coat, he took it and glanced at her.
“Are you tired?”
“A little bit.”
It seemed that they had been intimate for a long time the previous day and also in the morning, so it had taken a toll on her stamina. She was taking a nap in the afternoon, which she usually didn’t do.
Still, she couldn’t bring herself to say this, so Leilia blushed slightly.
