Chapter 22.1
As they entered the ballroom and stood in the center, he spoke to Leilia.
“I’m nervous.”
“Is it your first time in such a gathering?”
He shook his head in response to her question.
“It’s because I’m with my wife.”
Was that why he was saying that he was nervous?
Although she tried to ascertain the truth behind his words, she couldn’t make a guess. She was too busy with her own thoughts, so she didn’t notice Cassel blushing as he glanced at her.
“Your Highness, may I ask you to dance with me later?”
However, at that moment, someone approached him. Leilia looked at the young lady, who was beautifully dressed in a light blue dress. Under the lights, she looked very beautiful.
Cassel glanced at her indifferently and replied briefly.
“I only dance with my wife.”
Although the young lady wanted to say something in response to his uncompromising statement, she lowered her head and turned away when he looked at her coldly.
“To think this is what happened.”
He furrowed his brow.
“It’s amusing how they ignored me when I was going to die, but now they’re going out of their way to treat me nicely.”
Then, he whispered quietly to her.
“I hope this ends quickly.”
He seemed to dislike such gatherings.
“Just bear with it a little longer.”
While Leilia soothed him as he grumbled, he obediently nodded his head at her words.
And sometime later, Leshulean entered this shimmering place. Wearing a golden robe and a crown, it seemed like his attire was meant to celebrate the victory over the Seitria Empire. By his side was Carania, who had been with him during the triumphal ceremony and all eyes were now focused on her.
Everyone suspected that the Emperor had not given up on introducing a new wife to Cassel.
The marriage of the imperial family was also a union between families. In the end, it was clear that she would eventually have to let him go for Cassel’s benefit.
‘Still, it will be okay.’
It was because she would always remember Cassel’s vehement refusal to get the divorce.
That was enough.
Leshulean stepped onto the platform and shouted to Cassel.
“It’s finally a tribute to my proud son’s achievements.”
At that moment, Cassel lowered his head.
“Everything isn’t solely my own achievement. My wife and my subordinates supported me to endure through the war, along with the significant role of the Hyllan Merchants Association.”
His wife was the first person he mentioned in public.
Leshulean’s expression darkened further.
‘Cassel.’
Leilia realized that things weren’t going as she had expected. Was he really going to confront the Emperor? However, at that moment, a voice was heard.
“The Hyllan Merchants Association’s representative is entering.”
And shortly afterward, Natale entered.
Looking at her uncle, Leilia recalled a month after Cassel’s departure.
As soon as she heard rumors that the alleged Crown Prince, Lisseltz, had reduced the budget for Cassel’s knights, she immediately sent the war supplies she had been preparing so far. It was a decision made without considering political gain, and even though there were those within the inner circle who opposed it, Leilia pushed through it.
In this way, the Hyllan Association became a merchant guild that supported the war and received ardent support from the people.
‘Contrary, the profits have increased.’
As the Hyllan association stepped forward to directly support the war, many people were curious about Cassel’s true identity.
“Cassel, what is the relationship between you and the Hyllan’s head?”
Leshulean seemed to have the same curiosity.
Glancing at him, Cassel lowered his head as he replied.
“They are my benefactor who supported me when I was young.”
He answered simply.
However, his words had a significant impact. Leshulean and his subordinates all stared at him in astonishment.
“Benefactor? The head of the Hyllan association is known for not revealing their identity, right?”
“They supported me through a representative.”
He casually answered.
“Is the representative Natale?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“Nattel, is this true?”
And now all eyes were on Natale, who had just entered. Natale stepped forward, bowed his head, and showed respect to the Emperor.
“It’s true. The head of the Hyllan association has been supporting His Highness Cassel since his early years.”
“So, all the valuable things that Cassel had…”
“Were provided by the head of the Hyllan association.”
Natale satisfied Leshulean’s curiosity.
“I see.”
Now that his questions were finally answered, Leshulean nodded.
Leilia chuckled inwardly as she observed their reactions.
‘I can’t stand to see my husband’s knights running short of supplies.’
She regretted not being able to say this on the spot.
“Since you’ve brought victory to the Empire, it’s only fair that the Empire provides you with a fitting reward.”
“Thank you for your generosity, Your Majesty.”
Even though she had been worried about confronting the Emperor, it seemed like he was going to let it pass without any further incident.
