Chapter 19.1

“Didn’t you intentionally sign the divorce papers as soon as the imperial family sent the documents?”

Although his voice was gentle, it contained anger.

“Why did you sign the divorce papers?”

“That’s because there was pressure from the imperial family…”

…And, above all, he had a mistress.

Leilia couldn’t find the words to express herself, causing her lips to tremble while Cassel sighed in response. Realizing that her actions were being misinterpreted, she hurriedly explained.

“And it’s not because I dislike you that I didn’t sit next to Your Highness. I was just nervous…”

That seemed to be the most appropriate explanation.

After hearing her words, Cassel took a moment to compose himself before turning his gaze towards her.

“Were you disappointed that I signed the divorce papers?”

Her voice that asked quivered slightly as she clenched her fists that clutched the hem of her skirt. At the same time, her throat tightened with emotions.

Cassel, who had fallen silent, pursed his lips and uttered.

“Yes.”

With that, a smile appeared on his face.

His feelings of disappointment about signing the divorce papers were clearly conveyed, and Leilia gently patted his shoulder. Despite the strange and awkwardness of the contact, they were a couple who had spent their first night together so she thought it should be alright.

“I’m sorry.”

Even though he was three years younger, her husband’s presence now felt profound. Embracing the young man who had returned as an adult., she couldn’t help but feel a mix of emotions.

“I would have felt disappointed if the divorce actually went through.”

“Is there another man?”

“No, there isn’t.”

Upon hearing her words, Cassel’s anger subsided for a moment, and he looked at her. Then, clasping her hand tightly to his, he mumbled.

“Did you think it would be resolved with just this much?”

Even though he said that, he was also smiling.

“Even if the royal family orders a divorce, it’s only natural to resist. It’s ridiculous to walk away after all the hardship until now without any compensation.”

As the carriage began to move, Leilia sat down next to him.

“I didn’t do anything. Hyllan association helped you.”

She lowered her eyes and spoke.

Despite the fact that she was the leader of the Hyllan association, it was a matter she needed to keep hidden so Leilia deliberately separated the name from herself when speaking.

“That’s not true.”

Cassel shook his head.

“The letters you sent regularly were a great comfort to me.”

She never imagined that Cassel would express his happiness not because of the Hyllan association but because of his wife, Leilia’s help.

“…It’s not something that great.”

“To me, that gesture meant the world.”

His determined words made her face flush even more.

‘Haa…’

It felt as though he would easily see through her feelings.

As the carriage arrived at the mansion and Cassel stepped out, Aaron quickly approached and bowed his head.

“Are you here, Your Highness?”

“It’s been a while.”

Since he had stayed at this place for a few days before the wedding, he knew the servants and Aaron, and they also knew him.

‘He seems quite friendly.’

Though it wasn’t the same towards her.

When she tried to enter with Cassel, Aaron quickly blocked her.

“You don’t have to go inside. Lady Leilia’s belongings have been set aside, so you can just carry them and leave.”

Upon hearing this, Cassel stopped in his tracks.

Before Leilia could ask, he turned to Aaron.

“What do you mean?”

“Oh, Your Highness! It’s just that Lady Leilia has been insistent, so we’ve taken it upon ourselves to remove her belongings. Your Highness will soon be moving to another mansion, but it doesn’t make sense for Railia-nim to stay here, does it?”

Even as those words were hurled at her, Leilia remained calm.

It wasn’t at all surprising to her that they were behaving like this. After all, they hadn’t recognized her as their true madam for the past three years. Not only that, they had subjected her to continuous torment, trying to push her into having an affair. The imperial family seemed to wish for her to commit adultery.

‘The Emperor is cunning.’

They deliberately kept her isolated, hoping she would seek companionship with other men. However, Leilia was aware of their schemes and refused to succumb to their manipulations. Furthermore, besides Cassel, all other men meant nothing to her.

‘I guess he wasn’t expecting this.’

Leilia was taken aback as she witnessed Cassel’s expression harden in a frightening manner. It was the first time she had seen such a face since he had always shown her a gentle side. His eyes were so sharp and intense that it seemed he could stab Aaron to death at any moment.

“Did I say I was divorcing my wife?”

Aaron stammered in response to the question.

“Answer me.”

When Cassel asked again with his voice low, Aaron stiffened at the tyrannical tone and responded quickly.

“No, Your Highness.”

“Then, why did you remove my wife’s belongings?”

‘Uhm…’

As Cassel asserted his attitude, those who had ignored her all lowered their heads.

‘It feels somewhat satisfying, but…’

Still, she couldn’t help but feel bitter.
