“Did you come of your own free will?”

Lucas asked, suspecting a negative response.

“Yes.”

However, when a positive answer came back, his forehead furrowed in disbelief.

“Are you sure it was of your own free will? Weren’t you tied up over there?”

“It’s true that I came here because I wanted to. But, Uncle…. He tied me up there, it wasn’t like a purification ritual. I asked to be released, but he didn’t let me go.”

“A purification ritual? Could you explain that in more detail?”

“Um… once every three months, on the night of the full moon, I wash my body in the sea. Then, the impurities attached to my body fall off, and I become pure.”

Even when Lucas asked for specific details about what those impurities were and what becoming pure meant, Ren just tilted her head and repeated the same words.

As if she didn’t quite understand or was feigning ignorance….

‘Does she really not know, or is she pretending not to?’

Regardless, he couldn’t blindly trust her, despite her clear, transparent eyes. Lucas lowered his gaze and then turned back to her.

Before him sat the barefooted girl on the translucent salt crystals.

She had porcelain-white skin, a rare sight in the southern regions. Her pink hair looked like it could melt away if touched.

Most captivating of all were her iridescent sky-blue eyes, glistening like moonlit bouncing on ripples.

Like a heavenly lake, a color so vivid and bright—

The girl from the day star.

Somewhere, as the wind brushed by, the lovely pink hair of the humming woman swayed as she burst into laughter.

That image overlapped with the presence now seated on the salt crystals, smoothly swinging her legs.

It was clearly different. The ‘she’ in his dream had something other than bare legs…..

“You know.”

Startle-

Suddenly, it all made sense. When he unexpectedly met those blue eyes that stared back at him, he snapped out of his trance as if forcibly awakened.

“Have we met before by any chance?”

* * *

“Everything is not working.”

Lucas clicked his tongue softly as he took out a pocket watch.

It had been quite some time since he found himself in this inexplicable place, but nothing had changed. He was still here, and whenever he tried to pass through the fog surrounding the beach, he inexplicably returned to the same spot.

‘It must be due to the barrier’

There was a high probability of that, but he had no way of knowing what its core was. So, the situation remained at a standstill.

Ah, one more thing. He had picked up something rather suspicious.

The doll-like woman that he couldn’t see inside no matter how he looked at it.

“Your Excellency! How many times have I told you not to use the term picked up for people!”

“But isn’t that what I’ve done? I picked it up on the streets.”

“Your Highness, with that face, it’s no wonder you are still unmarried!”

He instinctively raised his head as he heard the voices of his aides echoing in his mind.

The reasons he was still unmarried…..

First, the rumors about Duke Daverid had spread like wildfire among the eligible noblewomen of marriageable age.

Second, Duke Daverid’s failure to rectify these rumors and ignoring it.

Third, simply because he had no intention of marrying just yet.

If the elders of his family were to find out, they would undoubtedly be furious. He scanned his surroundings, but the dense fog showed no signs of dissipating.

‘Hmm… I don’t know why this has stuck to me like this.’

Even though he had spent a long time on the battlefield, Lucas had never learned ticklish expressions. If he had learned anything, it was how to handle muscle-headed brutes or infuriate monsters who couldn’t understand anything and run wild all the time.

‘At first, Gillian looked like he lost his county.’

Lucas thought with a smirk. He recalled the dumbfounded expression of a loyal knight who had served two generations of dukes, just like his father before him.

He, like most Southerners, could maintain a sense of calm even in tense situations and carry on with trivial thoughts. If it weren’t for an immediate threat, a typical Southerner could think about what they would have for dinner.

In terms of appearance, he looked every bit like a Northerner to anyone who saw him. However, Lucas von Daverid, a direct descendant of the family that had settled here since the founding of the Empire, was as pure-blooded a Southerner.

“The sun isn’t rising yet.”

Still looking at the motionless violet moon for a moment, he turned away. He had dwelled too long with the girl who looked like an innocent piece of candy.

Lucas observed the entire coastline, covered in piles of salt that made it look completely white. Then, he turned his head.

At the end of the path, he saw a black coat adorned with golden threads that he had covered on her, along with pink hair swaying in the breeze

‘…..Well, I’m not quite sure.’

‘Is that really the case?’

He remembered her unhesitating answer, as if she had no regrets about her ambiguous answer.

‘Have we met before, is it.’

In fact, he thought of something similar

In places where people adorned themselves like splendid peacocks and exchanged glances, the repertoire had become so cliché that he chose not to bother to open his mouth.

He certainly felt a similar uneasiness. He raised his gaze that had momentarily become darker and resumed his halted steps.

“You’re here?”

Perhaps because he didn’t hide his approach, the girl who had been looking out to sea turned her head a beat later.

“It seems it would be difficult to leave the coast.”

He stated it straightforwardly, and Ren’s eyes widened.

Lucas briefly glanced at Ren. There was no sign of anxiety on her clear eyes that met him. He decided there was no need to give a verbose explanation about the dangers of the barrier.
