You, Who's Kind Only To Me - Chapter 12
Ren instinctively perked up her ears for a moment. Her ears were sensitive and delicate, keenly attuned to the sounds of nature, daily noises, and human voices.
‘I find myself wanting to listen more to this voice.’
The man’s tone was so low and gentle that Ren thought this way. She turned her gaze upward, and there stood a black-haired man who paid her no attention.
Black hair and crimson eyes. He had an exceptionally cold demeanor.
Ren was lying on a flat surface, the only one of its kind around, a transparent crystal. She was only wearing a simple chemise, and there was a coat that presumably belonged to the man covering her. It provided a decent level of warmth.
On the contrary, the man in the white shirt appeared rather cold. When Ren gazed at him, he noticed her gaze and looked down at her.
‘What are you trying to do?’
Lucas didn’t hurriedly sit up or show any confusion about being alone with a stranger. When their eyes met, he hesitated for a moment, struck by the peculiar brightness in her pure blue eyes.
As a result, they unintentionally found themselves locked in an unintentional eye fight, staring intently into each other’s eyes.
Lucas looked into her eyes, which seemed almost transparent, and then raised his hand to gently cover the doll-like woman’s eyes.
“It’s better not to stare at someone for too long.”
“Why?”
Rather than sounding confrontational, her question carried genuine curiosity. He hesitated for a moment before settling on an answer.
He couldn’t say something inappropriate to a woman he had just met today.
“Because the other person might misunderstand.”
So, he chose the safest response. As he finished speaking, he felt the sensation of the long eyelashes moving under his palm.
…Had she not closed her eyes?
When he noticed a slightly puzzled expression on her face, her small lips pursed and gave an ‘Ah.’
Her small face was already partially obscured by his hand, Now his gaze seemed to strangely want to tilt in that direction.
Not knowing that Lucas was completely sacrificing the dignity he should maintain as a high-ranking noble, contemplating when to take his hand away. Ren thought to herself,
‘He might be taking this as an invitation to a fight.’
It was a total misunderstanding.
“Excuse me-”
Ren finally uttered as she carefully selected the softest tone she could muster during the time he allowed her.
After all, this man had saved her life.
Even though things seemed a bit peculiar. Ren blinked her eyes behind the veil of darkness. With her vision almost completely obscured, she expressed her gratitude.
“Thank you for helping me.”
Upon hearing her words, Lucas’ hard, calloused fingertips trembled slightly.
“To be honest, I didn’t expect anyone to come.”
Her vision cleared up. The man who had been silently observing her intently now softened his sharp gaze.
It was a very subtle difference, but Ren, who had been confined to the attic all the time, had sharpened her observation skills to the point where she could detect such nuances.
“I just did what needed to be done.”
The man replied, and silence descended between them.
Ren, her eyes rolling in thought, hadn’t met a new face in a very long time.
How can she strike up a conversation?
The island was a closed-off place, and during the year Ren had been living there, she hadn’t encountered any new faces. This was partly because of her seclusion, but also because the island didn’t have much contact with the mainland.
Ren carefully pushed herself to sit up, and the man’s outer garment slipped down her chest as she did so. Her white skin was partially exposed due to the shoulder-baring chemise. But she hastily picked up the man’s clothes to hand them back.
“I’ll return this to you.”
The woman, who had been staring intently at his face since their encounter, held out his clothes. Lucas glanced at her face, searching for any hints.
‘I can’t read anything.’
It was a familiar thing for those who were ignorant of him to be drawn to his name, wealth, and reputation and rush towards him like moths to a flame.
Sometimes, or rather quite frequently, there were even noble ladies who were captivated by his appearance and sought to be in escort or engage in rather embarrassing actions.
However, most of these individuals would hastily avert their gaze when they met his eyes.
After all, they had heard rumors about him or were aware of the ‘curse’ associated with his red eyes.
“…That, why don’t you wear it?”
“What?”
“I am unmarried. Wouldn’t it be awkward for me to see a Lady in her chemise?”
“…..?”
What does he think of this attire?
Ren looked down at her thin clothing, then turned her gaze back to the man.
In any case, when you go to the sea, everyone gets wet. So, it’s only natural for people to take off their clothes without any hesitation in front of the vast wilderness of nature.
In front of the sea, everyone is equal.
“I meant you should wear it because it’s cold.”
Instead of pressing Ren further, he offered a reasonable excuse.
It had been nearly a decade since Lucas had seen someone he couldn’t read. She’s just an ordinary commoner, it seems. With a curious look at her, Lucas took his coat once more and draped it over Ren’s shoulders.
Ren, who was confused , lowered her head when the coat she was thinking of returning was given back to her.
‘Maybe he doesn’t want to wear it.’
Ren, who had lived a life deprived of freedom at the hands of others, held onto the returned clothes without hesitation.
Actually, it was a bit chilly. Would it be better if she went into the sea for a bit?
“Since when have you been there?”
Ren, who had been thinking only about the sea despite nearly being dragged into it, suddenly raised her head.
“About… 3 days ago.”
