When the Villainess Died, the Male Lead Went Crazy - Chapter 133.1
Up until this point, Lillith had believed that Anais still had more time left to live.
According to the original plan by Goddess Julias, Anais was supposed to die a bit later, after the coup and some more time had passed.
“Lady Anais.”
“Ung.”
“I like Lady Anais. I would do anything, as long as it means you can be happy.”
Anais simply gave a bitter smile.

Thus, the illusion continued until the day of the coup.
“Go to Levant for me first.”
“Then I won’t be able to join the coup on the day. After all, I’m the one you trust the most, right?”
“I’m sending you because I trust you. It’s more important there. We need to cut off their support early to buy time until we can eliminate the entire imperial family.”
Lillith knew there were other priests with healing abilities besides herself, so she reluctantly went to Levant. There, she cut off the bridge to prevent the remaining pro-royalist nobles from entering the capital, thus buying more time.
The coup was successful. Lillith breathed a sigh of relief as she watched the fireworks and magical projectiles fired above the imperial palace.
It wasn’t until several hours later that Lillith headed toward the palace.
* * *
“Anais is dead.”
The person who said this, looking as if he had lost his soul, was Kylian Cypnos. Despite becoming Emperor, he showed no joy.
“It’s impossible.”
“Where were you?”
At Kylian’s question, Lillith realized why she had gone to Levent.
“I wanted you and Kylian to be happy.”
Had Anais truly wanted them to be together? Was that why she emphasized to Lillith that nothing had happened between her and Kylian?
“It’s impossible.”
Lillith didn’t understand how she had walked to where Anais’s body lay.
Kylian was slumped, as if he had given up on everything, and Lewarren was crying as well. Lillith had once thought that if Lewarren ever cried, she would tease him, but now she couldn’t even remember that.
Lillith’s tears that were clouding her vision, felt unfamiliar. She had cried many times in the past out of frustration and anger, but this time was different. Now, what Lillith felt was sadness and despair.
“No.”
The hope she had clung to, believing there would be more time, was completely shattered by Anais’s untimely death.
“You promised to protect me.”
Lillith cried, kneeling in front of Anais’s lifeless body.
* * *
“Become the Empress. Then I will bring Anais Percival’s soul back to the path of reincarnation.”
It had been a while since Lillith last heard the voice of Goddess Julias.
“Are you angry with me?”
“Are you going to do it, or not?”
“I will.”
Lillith believed that there was no real choice in the matter. However, if she truly became the Empress, Anais would be able to live a new life, and Lillith could finally rest in eternal slumber.
“Then do well.”
As the voice of Goddess Julias faded, there was a knock that caught her attention.
Knock knock.
“Saint.”
“Yes.”
The person who had come to find Lillith at the temple was Zisis, a mid-level priest. He carefully entered her office and walked toward her.
“I came to the Saint before the High Priest.”
“Why?”
“Would you like to see this?”
Zisis, with his gentle personality and tone, was someone Lillith knew well. He was the only one at the Roseraine Temple who could communicate with Lewarren and was a priest beloved by the God of Destruction.
“What is this?”
He handed her what looked like a burnt piece of paper, partially charred.
“I believe this is Lady Anais’s diary.”
“Why did you bring it to me and not Lewarren?”
“If I had brought it to him, he would have destroyed it, saying it was useless. I believe that if His Majesty sees Lady Anais’s diary, he will understand her intentions and come to his senses.”
Zisis, knowing that Kylian Cypnos had been living like a shell of a man since becoming Emperor, said this with concern.
“What do you think I would do?”
“If it’s you, Saint, I believe you will make the choice for Lady Anais.”
Lillith herself didn’t know. If she restored the diary and showed it to Kylian, she couldn’t be sure if he would regain his senses.
Moreover, although she knew she should become Kylian’s wife, she didn’t want to act on it. She had never been attracted to him, and she never thought of herself as a woman in the first place.
“Understood.”
Lillith took the diary and went to Kylian. If Kylian could properly govern the empire by honoring Anais’s will, perhaps marriage wouldn’t be so difficult after all.
She, too, had been part of the coup, and as a Saint, she was a fitting symbol of the empire’s prosperity and peace.
If a child wasn’t needed, she could marry him as the Goddess demanded and quickly die thereafter. If the Emperor was out of his mind, a little provocation could easily end her life.
“What is this?”
“It’s Anais’s diary.”
“That scrap?”
But Kylian had completely deteriorated due to the drugs. She had asked the priests to give him the medicine, but she never expected him to fall so far, unable to endure even a minute without it.
