Time-Limited Saintess, You've Been Caught by the Tyrant Once Again - Chapter 95
Chapter 48.1
Ellin’s eyes widened.
‘Am I still angry? What does that mean?’
As she blinked, Arkan spoke calmly.
“You haven’t let it go yet.”
His crimson eyes locked onto her pale green ones. Despite only looking at her, his gaze felt heavy as though it was pressing down on her. His towering presence made her feel as though she were trapped.
She met his gaze and asked,
“Does it matter to Your Majesty that I’m angry?”
“….”
Her words made Arkan pause. He exhaled deeply before replying.
“It seems… it does.”
“….”
“No, it is important.”
As he said this, his crimson eyes staring down at her were so intense that she found it hard to breathe.
Ellin inhaled sharply and gently pushed him back. Even with such a light touch, he shifted backward. He sat down, resting his chin on his hand and crossing his legs, his gaze still fixed on her.
“Ellin.”
“….”
“Ellin, answer me.”
“….”
“Ellin.”
He kept repeating her name, almost like a parrot, as if he wouldn’t stop until she responded.
At last, Ellin spoke.
“Why are you calling me, Your Majesty?”
“You’re far too insolent.”
His words were met with silence from her.
“Ellin.”
“….”
“Why won’t you answer me, Ellin?”
She had never been particularly talkative, not even during the forced marriage. But had he always been this bothersome? He kept calling her name, and when she shot him a slightly exasperated look, he chuckled. His crimson eyes curved with amusement.
“You really are strange.”
‘What is he even saying?’
Ellin didn’t respond. All she wanted was for this long, drawn-out interaction to finally end.
Arkan, watching her, laughed again.
Seeing her hold onto her anger made him feel uneasy, yet, strangely, he found himself oddly pleased. It was even more so because, despite her attempt to remain composed, her emotions were plainly visible to him.
“I’m sorry for not trusting you.”
“….”
“I’m truly sorry. I didn’t think you’d ever consider coming back.”
At his apology, Ellin frowned as her gaze shifted to him. He was apologizing like this to someone as insignificant as a nanny. She wasn’t a saintess—just a nobody, a simple commoner.
“I’m sorry for getting angry.”
“….”
“I’m always apologizing to you, aren’t I?”
He furrowed his brows slightly and lowered his gaze.
It was a clumsy apology, and for a moment, his current image overlapped with memories of her past life. Back then, his expression was icy, and whenever he looked at Elena, it was as if he couldn’t stand it.
“Is my wife doing well today?”
“….”
“Ah, of course, she must be. Someone as virtuous as the saintess would be, wouldn’t she?”
The twisted tone in his voice made Elena’s gaze turn even colder.
‘If only he had apologized like this back then… how different could things have been?’
If he had, perhaps in that brief life, she could’ve at least understood him.
Ellin turned her gaze back to Arkan, standing before her now. The same coldness from back then and the faint scent of blood that seemed to linger around him were gone. Now, he was just a slightly awkward, clumsy man offering an apology while subtly gauging her reaction.
Even someone as unobservant as she was could tell that he wanted her to forgive him.
But why? Wasn’t she nothing now?
“Your Majesty, I’m not being sarcastic, but… why are you apologizing to me? I mean, why does my forgiveness matter to you?”
“….”
“I’m just merely a nanny to Princess Charlotte, after all.”
“….”
“This is probably me being presumptuous again, isn’t it?”
As Ellin lowered her eyes, Arkan instinctively realized this was his chance. He opened his mouth to speak.
“But you’re still alive, aren’t you?”
“….”
Arkan blurted out the words without thinking, and as soon as they left his mouth, he immediately regretted them.
Ellin let out a small laugh.
Misinterpreting it as a cold sneer, he hurriedly added, “And besides, it’s important that you let go of your anger. You’re the one taking care of Charlotte.”
“Are you implying that I’d let my personal feelings interfere with how I care for the princess?”
His mind went completely blank.
“Who said that? I simply can’t bear the thought of your feelings being hurt because of me, especially since you’re the one healing and looking after the princess. Is that how you speak to someone who has done you such a favor?”
“I wouldn’t talk about killing or threatening someone who has done me a favor.”
“That’s why I’m apologizing… Ha.”
“….”
It was a complete defeat for Arkan. No matter what he said, he would lose—mainly because he hadn’t done anything right in the first place. Even when he had done something wrong, he had always ruled over it with cruelty.
But this time, he didn’t want to do that.
“If you’re truly sorry, does that mean I can come and go freely now? Will you let me leave?”
“Are you kidding me?”
Arkan’s expression suddenly changed. The moment he treated her kindly, she had already started plotting her escape. Was this what utter disbelief felt like?
Suppressing the emotions bubbling up, Ellin spoke calmly.
“Look at this. Your Majesty doesn’t seem sorry at all.”
“If I let you go, how can I be sure you won’t run away? Especially with the secret you’re keeping.”
“Your Majesty, if I’d intended to reveal it, don’t you think I’d have done so by now? Sir Maynard and High Priest Erich are right here, and yet I haven’t said a word.”
“….”
“Why are you being so unreasonable with me?”
Once again, Arkan found himself unable to respond.
Ellin was incredibly skilled with words—so sharp and precise that there was no winning against her. Once, he had dominated council meetings, silencing nobles with his rhetoric, but now, his wit felt utterly useless.
“Your Majesty, you’re truly strange.”
“….”
