The Reason Why She Can’t Get Married - Chapter 26
Chapter 26
Just as Selena was about to extend her hand to thank him, he swiftly took the cushion from her chair. He then placed it on Gabriella’s chair, making sure she would sit comfortably.
‘…?’
Selena felt embarrassed as Dominique had taken the cushion without permission.
‘Something feels off…’
Sitting on the chair that Lucy had pulled out for her, she scrutinized Dominique Dixon. He seemed to be a person who would show consideration and kindness to others, even though he had acted quite rudely by forcefully taking her cushion earlier.
He was attentively making sure Gabriella was comfortable in her seat.
“I’ll also bring dessert for you,” he said.
“Thank you, Sir Dixon.”
As Dominique left for the kitchen, Gabriella, with a bemused smile, leaned towards Selena and whispered, “Oh, I think I’m falling for him again. Just now, he did something that made my heart flutter.”
“Really? Because he wiped down the chair?”
“Yes. It’s not common for someone to always be so kind and considerate towards others.” Gabriella sighed as she cupped her cheek in her hand. The Princess, who had missed the scene of Dominique snatching the cushion while she was absent-mindedly looking at him, smiled brightly.
‘Hmm… Is he the type to be indifferent to others but warm to the woman he likes?’
Among the men she had encountered, there were many who had learned strange ideas about love. They would be kind and considerate only to the woman they liked, disregarding others.
Despite the fact that it was not right to lack humanity and consideration for others, Selena speculated that Dominique Dixon might belong to that category.
‘Well, people can’t be perfect all the time. Even if he’s good to the princess…’
Selena was trying to console herself when Gabriella spoke again, her face filled with fondness. “That’s not all. He also loves animals, thinks of the weak, and possesses tolerance and a spirit of sacrifice. That’s the kind of person Sir Dixon is.”
“Ahaha… I see.”
Selena awkwardly laughed. It wasn’t the first time she had heard Gabriella praise Dominique Dixon, but it was the first time she heard it after meeting him in person.
Her praise made her feel slightly uneasy. No matter how warm he was to her, she couldn’t help but think that he should be the same to others as well… As a sense of discomfort slowly encroached, Selena shifted her gaze towards the kitchen entrance.
Mane was walking with a hefty tray, carrying the completed dessert. Dominique, who was standing at the entrance, noticed Mane and snatched the tray without saying a word.
Despite Mane almost stumbling and falling due to the abrupt and rough action, Dominique didn’t seem to care at all. Mane couldn’t believe that a man could treat a young girl like herself, who was just in her early teens, with such an attitude.
She was even smaller and younger compared to Selena, let alone Dominique.
“I brought the dessert, Your Highness.” Dominique gently smiled as he placed the tray in front of the princess.
“Oh, my goodness! It looks absolutely delicious,” she exclaimed.
“If you tell me what you’d like, I will serve it to you with a fork.” He said it so affectionately, leaving the dessert untouched within Selena’s reach.
Even though Selena was the one who should be handed the real dessert.
“Oh, no, Sir. There’s no need for that.”
“No, I insist. You might get cream on your sleeve, so I will serve it for you.”
“It’s really not necessary…” Gabriella’s face turned red once again. She had an expression that clearly showed her excitement.
While the two were being affectionate, Selena noticed Mane hesitantly shuffling behind Dominique, standing next to Gabriella.
The knights were usually sensitive to any movements, so Dominique must have known that Mane had something to say behind him. Dominique didn’t seem to have any intention of harming the princess, despite his overly excessive attitude.
An irritated Selena said, “Sir Dixon, Mane is standing behind to explain the dessert. Could you please step aside?”
“Oh…” Dominique glanced briefly at Gabriella and turned his body with a very apologetic face.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know.”
“Oh, no, it’s fine.”
“Well, Mane, go ahead and explain the dessert to the princess.” Oddly, Dominique shoved Mane’s back authoritatively. Mane almost stumbled again, but fortunately, she didn’t trip this time and quickly regained her balance.
Selena became increasingly annoyed by Dominique’s excessive coldness towards other people.
“Alright, Mane. Can you explain the dessert?”
“Yes, Your Highness. First of all, I’ll start with our most popular item, the Cream Cheese Financier here…”
While Gabriella and Mane were having a lively conversation, Selena pretended to listen while discreetly observing Dominique. She couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable with Dominique’s evident difference in attitude towards the princess and other people.
In front of the princess, he had a gentle expression and respectfully stepped back, but as soon as he turned away, he stomped his feet in frustration. Then, even when he accidentally bumped into a colleague, he glared at them without a word of apology.
‘…Now that I look closely, he doesn’t seem like the good man the princess described,’ Selena thought.
Suddenly, Maximillian’s words about Gabriella having no discerning eye for men came to mind.
Could it be true?
‘Does the princess really lack the perception to judge men?’
