The Reason Why She Can’t Get Married - Chapter 25
Chapter 25
First, Selena decided to postpone her appointment with Noel as much as possible. And it was not a lie to say that she was busy.
‘I should focus on the princess’ request first.’
Always prioritizing work as a workaholic, Selena wanted to resolve the request first.
“Oh, lady!”
“Ah, Your Highness.” Gabriella waved her hand as she approached her with the knights.
Today, the two of them met outside the palace. As Selena had mentioned before, she had promised to introduce Gabriella to a delicious dessert shop.
‘Well, desserts are not the only purpose, though.’
Smiling, Selena greeted Gabriella warmly and glanced behind her.
“Let’s see, where is Sir Dixon?”
Actually, when Selena met Gabriella in the palace, she had never seen Dominique Dixon. It was because guarding the reception room door was usually the task of junior knights, and Dominique, who had been a knight for quite some time, didn’t have that duty.
So Selena used the excuse of introducing her to a dessert shop to bring both the princess and Dominique Dixon together. She was curious to see them together and wanted to see what kind of person Dominique Dixon was in real life.
‘Hmm, is that him?’
Selena’s gaze fell on the man standing right behind the princess in the front row.
According to Gabriella, Dominique Dixon was considered one of the most handsome men in the knight order. Among the knights lined up behind the princess, there was only one person who could be called handsome, and that was that man.
“Your Highness, is the knight with black hair and brown eyes standing right behind you, Sir Dixon?”
“Ah, yes. That’s right.” Gabriella shyly confirmed Selena’s whisper.
Selena looked at Dominique Dixon again. He was wearing the dignified uniform of the imperial knight order, which suited his well-defined face, and stood tall and firm like a knight from a fairy tale.
‘Hmm, he doesn’t look cunning at all, no matter how I look at him. Why would the prince call him cunning?’
At least outwardly, he didn’t seem like a bad person deserving of the prince’s criticism. On the contrary, he belonged to a category of first impressions that were very favorable. Still, one can’t judge someone solely on first impressions.
“Lucy, from now on, pay close attention to Dixon. Got it?”
“Yes, lady.” Selena whispered to Lucy in a small voice so that it wouldn’t be heard by others, and she straightened her posture.
In any case, there must be a reason why the prince made such a comment. She decided to observe Dominique Dixon calmly throughout the day.
‘I’ve heard enough that I have an eye for judging people.’
If she looks at him all day, she’ll be able to make some judgments. Trying to keep her mind light, Selena cheerfully spoke up.
“Shall we start heading out, Princess?”
“Sounds good, lady.” In order to keep her promise to Gabriella, she introduced her to the dessert shop. Selena headed towards her genuinely favorite dessert place.
“The place we’re going to is a particularly delicious place for crepes.”
“Really? I love crepes, so I’m looking forward to it.” Gabriella’s face lit up with excitement.
Walking a step behind her, Selena confidently guided the way. Turn right here, and it’s just one block away. On the way, she took the opportunity to observe Dominique Dixon.
Whenever there was a small stone or obstacle in front of the princess, he quickly stepped forward and cleared it to the side. He also extended his arm to help the princess with her steps, making it easier for her to walk in her heels.
‘He seems fine for now.’
Even standing next to Gabriella, he didn’t look bad. Of course, it was a shame because the princess herself was too outstanding.
Selena, who was closely observing Dominique and Gabriella, stopped as she spotted her favorite shop.
“Here we are. This is the hidden crepe shop I told you about—Monet Bakery. Three generations of pastry chefs have been making exquisite crepes here.”
Compared to the surrounding shops, it was small and quaint. The sign read ‘Mona Bakery’ in a round and cheerful font.
“It may be small in size, but their skills are excellent. Let’s go in together.”
Selena pushed open the old wooden door with determination. The interior of the shop was as simple as its exterior. There were three tables, and a young girl wearing an apron stood behind the counter.
“Welcome to Monet Bakery,” someone greeted.
“Hi, Mane. How have you been?” Selena smiled at Mane, who was the owner’s granddaughter.
They had known each other for a long time, so they were a familiar sight to one another.
“Selena, it’s been a while since you last came!” Mane exclaimed.
“Yeah, I’ve been busy lately. But today, I brought a special guest with me.” Selena gestured to Gabriella beside her.
Mane, an ordinary girl who rarely saw nobility, looked at Gabriella with curiosity.
“This is Princess Gabriella.”
“Oh, sorry! I didn’t greet you right away…”
“It’s fine; it happens.” Gabriella smiled graciously and reassured Mane. She was not a narrow-minded person who would get upset just because a commoner didn’t recognize her.
“I heard that your shop makes delicious pastries. Is that true?”
“Yes, it is. My grandmother is skilled at making various treats.”
“Then could you bring out your best offerings?”
“Of course!” Mane energetically replied and hurried off to the kitchen. Meanwhile, the two of them decided to sit at a table near the window.
As Gabriella was about to sit on a partially dirty chair, Dominique suddenly appeared and pulled the chair back, taking out a handkerchief from his pocket and wiping the seat.
Gabriella’s cheeks turned red, and Selena narrowed her eyes.
‘Oh, he’s quite attentive, isn’t he?’
It was not common for someone to wipe down chairs with a handkerchief, especially in a bakery. Selena silently evaluated Dominique as he happened to turn his head and their eyes met. Dominique approached her with confidence.
