The Queen Who Deserves To Be Tainted - Chapter 40.2
“You must have misunderstood.”
“No, I’m certain of it.”
“Do you have any proof?”
“At the last opening ceremony.”
Marchioness Magnum lowered her voice as though she had uncovered an important clue.
“Her eyes when she saw Your Majesty with a cut finger weren’t ordinary.”
“Is that all?”
Ejnar chuckled mockingly.
“Isn’t she the type of woman who would focus on even the smallest things?”
She was always a woman who paid attention to even the tiniest details. Whether it was a button that could roll off the floor and disappear, a woman who accepted a friendly gesture without realizing she was being watched, or a medicine bottle that rattled loudly even when closed…
She was a woman who always showed concern, even when her interests were clearly in front of her. Marchioness Magnum, who had spent years observing her up close, would certainly know this well.
Even if the woman’s goal was to seduce him, bear his child, and offer the child to her homeland… her nature remained the same, and there was no denying that. Pretending otherwise was unnecessary and inefficient.
When his finger was cut, it was likely just part of her nature or perhaps an attempt to look good to him… Either way, there was no room for interpretation in that action.
Ejnar slowly closed his eyes, then opened them again.
“Yes. I wasn’t sure of it from just that.”
Marchioness Magnum nodded as though she had anticipated that reaction.
“But later, more concrete evidence emerged…”
“And what was that?”
“Unfortunately, I can’t tell you that just yet.”
Her answer, which left him hanging, made Ejnar raise one eyebrow in slight frustration. However, the Marchioness’s composure remained unchanged.
“For Your Majesty’s sake, I think it’s best if I stay silent.”
What kind of evidence could be so significant for her to say such things? At this point, Ejnar couldn’t help but feel intrigued.
Marchioness Magnum wouldn’t make such a statement without reason. Nonetheless, he still wasn’t fully convinced, so he began to slowly retrace his steps, reflecting on the time he spent with Elfreda, trying to find a clue.
“Your Majesty.”
Suddenly, Marchioness Magnum delivered the final blow.
“Make that woman fall in love with Your Majesty.”
Ejnar’s expression froze, like someone who had been struck unexpectedly. Still, Marchioness Magnum was now smiling and kindly guided him.
“Use that love as a weapon and wield it for Machi. It will certainly become a useful tool one day.”
“The queen…”
Still struggling to grasp the meaning of her words, Ejnar muttered, pronouncing each syllable slowly.
“Make her love me…”
“I understand that it may seem uncomfortable.”
Marchioness Magnum continued calmly,
“But a woman, when she loves a man, will abandon even her country and family for him. Especially that woman—she’s in a helpless situation here. She’s already given her heart after only a few embraces from Your Majesty.”
A faint sound of mockery escaped the Marchioness as she clearly thought Elfreda was foolish.
If what she said were true, it wasn’t entirely wrong. If Elfreda could fall for a man so easily, someone to be used…
“A little kindness from you, and she’ll surely be yours faster and more certainly.”
As she imagined the end result, a bright glimmer passed through Marchioness Magnum’s eyes. After a moment, she composed herself and continued in a more official tone.
“Of course, accepting this is your decision, Your Majesty. But given that she’s the granddaughter of Gunnar… I suppose I’m boldly recommending something that might be unseemly.”
“….”
“But I truly believe it will be helpful for Machi.”
Finally, Ejnar understood why the Marchioness had changed her approach. If the queen truly had feelings for him, this method would undoubtedly be the most perfect and destructive way to achieve Marchioness Magnum’s revenge.
Pretend to love her, then discard her… It was a way to completely destroy a person.
“And if, as a result, the queen doesn’t want to divorce me willingly?”
“Then, as you wish, you can treat her harshly.”
“And if she still doesn’t break?”
“I’ll suggest something to her.”
Then, the Marchioness slightly leaned in as if speaking to Elfreda in the future, placing a hand near her lips and whispering.
“Maybe make her take a little poison. Then, His Majesty’s heart will soften and will look at Your Majesty again.”
