The Omega Princess and Her Two Leashes - Chapter 82
Chapter 82
Leybid couldn’t understand it. Protecting a powerless princess of a small nation wasn’t something achievable through brute force alone. If Camin became Duke Modreo, one of Fleurose’s highest nobles, he could provide Arlenrose with far more comprehensive protection. So, this Camin Modreo, was he simply a fool with limited vision?
He’d even forgone his rightful position, and recently, he’d yielded an opportunity for glory to his elder brother. This led Leybid to question, ‘Is this man truly a dominant alpha?’
Unlike others, Leybid, as a dominant alpha himself, understood the insatiable, monstrous nature of a dominant alpha’s greed and possessiveness. Could such a being truly abandon their desires to this extent?
Leybid found it difficult to accept that the man before him, Camin Modreo, was truly a dominant alpha. ‘Unless… he has some ulterior motive and is merely feigning indifference…’
“Haha!” Reaching this conclusion, Leybid let out a chuckle. It was a ridiculous thought. This statue-like man, as Arlenrose had said, didn’t seem capable of such machinations.
“Your Highness.”
‘Did I laugh too openly?’
At the sternly uttered words, Leybid quickly closed his mouth and gauged Camin’s reaction. But instead of a reprimand for his laughter, Camin said something completely different. “I hear you requested to travel incognito.”
“Ah? Oh, yes, I did.”
“May I inquire as to the reason for this request?”
“Oh, that’s…” Leybid trailed off, scratching the back of his head, suddenly feeling awkward. “I was feeling stifled.”
That was all. It had been an impulsive request, without any real purpose. Being confined within the palace walls throughout the peace negotiations had become tedious. He simply wanted to get some fresh air and see how the villages of Fleurose differed from those of the Empire.
“Stifled, you say…”
“Yes. Do I need another reason?” Leybid’s casual response prompted a sigh from Camin.
“Your Highness, are you unaware that there may be factions targeting the princess?”
“Arlenrose? Who? Why?”
“I don’t know. However, while I was away investigating Demonas spies, Sir Mark Fowards, who was acting as her substitute guard, was attacked. Therefore, we are currently considering that possibility.”
“No, that’s…”
‘That was my doing.’
Leybid nearly blurted out the truth before snapping his mouth shut. He’d forgotten about that. About that hot-headed old geezer, Mark Fowards. Initially, he’d attacked and imprisoned him to gain access to Arlenrose under the guise of a guard. Later, while pursuing the suddenly vanished Arlenrose, he’d encountered him escaping his prison and attacked him again.
He couldn’t risk having his actions exposed. Diabolus was there too. That incident had led him to suspect that Arlenrose might be Diabolus… He’d forgotten about that as well. Arlenrose’s vulnerability as an omega was leverage enough.
“Ahem.”
Leybid coughed awkwardly.
‘Actually, I was the one who did that. So, the idea of someone targeting Arlenrose is a misunderstanding.’
He couldn’t possibly say that. There was only one thing he could say.
“Is that so? I wasn’t aware.”
“If you weren’t aware, I suggest you become aware now.” The blunt reply sounded like a scolding.
“You are currently in a precarious position, Your Highness. I advise against venturing outside the palace for such frivolous reasons.”
Leybid’s brow twitched. Despite the polite phrasing, it wasn’t just a scolding; it was a scolding. He felt a surge of annoyance. But Camin was right, so he had no retort.
“Ah, right.” Camin narrowed his eyes at Leybid’s stiff, perfunctory reply.
“If possible, I recommend canceling today’s outing altogether.”
“Ah, right. I’ll consider it.”
“Am I being too lenient? Let me rephrase. Don’t consider it. Cancel it.”
