The Omega Princess and Her Two Leashes - Chapter 83
Chapter 83
His words were shockingly blunt, unbelievably so, considering they were directed at someone who even the crown prince of a nation treated with deference.
Leybid stared, speechless. The fact that Camin was slightly taller, forcing him to look up, irritated him.
‘How can someone be so stubbornly principled?’ he thought. ‘And Arlenrose likes this?’
The realization sparked a sudden surge of annoyance, twisting his lips into a frown. The situation itself was unpleasant. What had initially been amusing now grated on him like a hangnail.
Camin Modreo was his polar opposite in every way. He looked like an ascetic clergyman, and Leybid had heard he was actually nicknamed the Monk of Fleurose. A notorious libertine and a monk—truly two extremes.
‘Such dull, boring taste,’ Leybid mused. ‘Intimate moments with this type would be tedious.’
Even if, by some miracle, Arlenrose’s unrequited affection was returned, could she, having experienced every thrill with him, ever be satisfied with such a bland affair?
‘No way, she should just stop. This infatuation needs to end, right now.’
Leybid grumbled inwardly, a pointless, irrational complaint he knew was absurd.
Camin frowned deeper at Leybid’s continued silence. “Your Highness, will you not answer me?”
“No…”
Leybid scowled back. Logically, he knew he should give up. With the knight objecting so vehemently, forcing Arlenrose outside could lead to an incident he’d be responsible for.
Yet, he didn’t want to concede. He wanted to go out. He desperately wanted to go out with Arlenrose. He hadn’t been this insistent before, but now, the urge was overwhelming, like a sudden, desperate thirst.
He couldn’t understand this stubbornness. He usually loathed anything remotely troublesome or tedious. It was probably because he was being told no.
His contrary nature made him want to do the opposite of what he was told.
“Is all this truly necessary?” Leybid asked haughtily, placing a hand on his hip and the other on the sword at his waist. “I’m quite strong, you know. I’m sure we’ll be fine.”
Camin didn’t even blink.
“With all due respect, Your Highness, your strength is irrelevant. Should we be attacked, you would prioritize your own safety over the princess’s.”
“That’s not true. I’m more altruistic than I appear. I would protect her. She’s my friend.”
“Again, with all due respect, I would advise against it. If the Imperial Crown Prince were seriously injured in a foreign land, it would become an international incident.”
“Well, what am I supposed to do then?”
“Nothing at all. If you cancel your outing, the problem resolves itself.”
“Ha…!” Leybid sighed, exasperated. How could anyone be so inflexible and frustrating?
Camin was as unyielding as a wall. No, talking to a wall would be preferable.
“Fine. I’ll cancel it. Come to think of it, there’s no real reason to go out. But…” Leybid conceded through gritted teeth, only to be interrupted.
“That won’t be necessary.”
Both men turned, their eyes widening simultaneously. Standing there, dressed simply like a village maiden, was Arlenrose.
She wore a light brown dress, a dark green vest, and a white apron. Her hair was pinned up under a wide-brimmed bonnet, concealing her platinum blonde locks and softening her beauty in the shade of the brim. The effect was surprisingly convincing.
“Your Highness.”
“Princess.”
As both men spoke her titles, Arlenrose stepped forward, a shy smile gracing her lips. “Well? How do I look?”
The smile’s intended recipient was obvious. Leybid followed her gaze to Camin, whose stern expression softened.
