The Omega Princess and Her Two Leashes - Chapter 49
Chapter 49
The incident was one of the most famous anecdotes about Camin, and it was still often mentioned in the court. It seemed that the firmness in his words had made him even more appealing to the people. In fact, even Arlenrose had secretly agreed, so it was only natural.
While Arlenrose was lost in thought, Baker also spoke up, seemingly lost in his own thoughts.
“Besides… it seems like it will take even longer today. There’s talk that Crescent Modreo will be attending the ball tonight.”
Arlenrose’s eyes widened at his words.
“Oh, Lord Crescent? Wasn’t he staying in his southern territory?”
“It seems he came up to the capital after hearing the news of the armistice. He also expressed his intention to attend the ball.”
“So, we don’t know if he’s arrived in the capital yet, or if he’ll actually be able to attend the ball.”
“Yes. But the possibility alone is unsettling, isn’t it? As you know, he’s a bit…”
Baker trailed off, sighing as if he was uncomfortable saying more. Arlenrose nodded, as she could guess what he was going to say.
“I understand.”
Crescent Modreo, the eldest son of Duke Modreo and Camin’s older brother.
Since Camin had entered the Royal Guard as a knight and effectively withdrawn from the succession race, he was the only one who could inherit the dukedom. With the added advantage of being the eldest son, he should have already become the successor and been called the young duke.
However, the current Duke Modreo had not yet appointed Crescent Modreo as his successor.
People said that the reason for this was that Crescent was so much less capable than his younger brother Camin. They speculated that he was waiting for Camin to quit being a knight before making him the successor. It was a plausible speculation.
Camin had graduated top of his class from the academy, while Crescent had failed. While Camin earned the title of the kingdom’s strongest swordsman, he was ridiculed for his bad athletic ability and eventually gave up the sword altogether.
Camin’s superiority over Crescent was not limited to academics and swordsmanship. He also had outstanding looks, a good personality, a lot of popularity, and even strong pheromones as an alpha.
The difference was so stark that everyone said the same thing. If they were Duke Modreo, they would want to pass the dukedom to his younger son Camin rather than his eldest son Crescent.
Crescent had lived his life being compared to his younger brother Camin since he was born. As a result, his inferiority complex was indescribable. Because of this, he would always try to find fault with Camin and pick fights with him.
However, he seemed to be completely unaware that this behavior made him look even worse and lowered his reputation even further. Then again, if he had been perceptive enough to realize that, he might have become the young duke long ago.
After a moment of contemplation, Arlenrose spoke.
“Do you think he’s coming to the capital to gain influence to become the successor?”
“It’s very possible. The south is such a peaceful and prosperous region that it’s not easy to gain influence there.”
Baker nodded in agreement, then chuckled wryly.
“To be precise, that’s what he believes. He thinks the reason Commander is more noticed than him is because he’s active in the capital.”
“I see.”
Arlenrose also agreed with a wry smile.
It was ridiculous. If Camin Modreo had been in the south, he would have definitely used the region’s abundant resources to make the territory even more prosperous. Instead, he was only looking towards the capital and complaining.
However, there was something that bothered Arlenrose about Baker’s words.
“But why would it take longer? Surely Commander Camin’s attitude won’t be any different than usual just because Lord Crescent is attending. He’s always so calm and composed.”
