The Male Lead’s Sickly Aide is My Type - Chapter 88.1
Chapter 88.1
“Iris?”
“I’m so relieved you’re safe!”
Iris squeezed Carinne, who was still dazed.
She hadn’t expected to encounter Iris at such a moment. It was so sudden that she couldn’t believe it even though she was in Iris’s arms.
It seemed that Duke Lucas and Archen felt the same way. Archen blinked his eyes in disbelief, and the Duke looked as if he had seen a ghost. He rubbed his eyes and checked the Iris in front of him several times.
“…What are you doing here?”
“I was looking for someone to help. But Carinne, I didn’t expect to meet you here!”
Iris grabbed her shoulder and laughed bashfully, then hugged Carinne tightly again. It was a mission accomplished.
Seeing Iris’s bashful smile was the reason she had endured all the hardship today. Carinne smiled proudly, then realized that this was not the time for this and slipped out of Iris’s arms. There were more than a few things she was curious about.
“What happened? I heard from the coachman that you encountered a monster on your way to our house.”
“Aha, so that was a monster.”
Iris sighed, ‘That’s a relief.’
To summarize her long story, she was on her way to the Second Duchy’s mansion to have a cup of tea and see the cats. However, she encountered a monster in the city, and although the coachman tried his best to drive the horse, it was not enough.
In the end, the carriage was broken after being attacked on the road, and while they were fleeing back to the city, the forest animals turned the monster around, so they barely survived.
In the city they arrived at, monsters and people were intertwined. As she was about to return to the Second Duchy’s mansion, she couldn’t bear to ignore the people who needed help, so she gathered stray cats, dogs, and birds to help the people who were being chased by the monster.
When asked how she was able to fight the monster, she replied that when there were many monsters, the animals would turn them around, and when there were few monsters, the animals would distract the monster’s vision and scatter its mind, allowing her to attack the crown with a dagger.
Considering the fact that the monsters were immobilized by the flock of birds a while ago, it was not an unreasonable answer.
“Where did you get the dagger?”
“I found it.”
Well, it wouldn’t be strange if a soldier had dropped a dagger during the chaos.
“How did you know that the crown was the weak point?”
“My friends told me!”
It seemed that she had noticed it after seeing the birds attacking the crown intensively. Carinne finished interpreting on her own.
When the question and answer session was over, Iris’s eyes lit up as she said it was her turn. She pointed to the shield and asked what it was, so Carinne briefly explained what had happened with Marta. When asked why she was here, she replied simply, ‘I came to find you!’
“So, you came all the way here to find me? With Duke Lucas and the aide?”
Iris was overjoyed.
Strictly speaking, the Duke and Archen had come to close the gap between the worlds rather than to find Iris. But since Iris liked it, she decided to keep quiet.
“Then, did you summon that flock of birds?”
“Oh, those kids are my friends!”
“….”
Carinne decided not to understand. Iris looked at the path where the birds had disappeared with her legs.
“I should thank them, but they’ve all gone far away.”
“….”
Carinne fell into contemplation.
She had found Iris, and now she had to figure out what to do next. The original plan was to send Iris back to the barricade and go with the Duke and Archen to close the gap. However, judging from what Iris was saying…
“Wow, now that I think about it, we’re all together again! I’m so happy!”
…It didn’t seem like she would return. There didn’t seem to be any problem with her protecting herself. In that case, there was only one way.
“Iris, you know. We came here not only to find you but also to close the gap between the worlds.”
After explaining to Iris about the gap between the worlds, whose eyes widened in surprise, she asked if she wanted to come along. The answer was as good as decided.
“I want to go, too!”
Thus, the expedition to close the gap between the worlds was formed.
This time, Carinne took the lead. It was thanks to the recognition of her shield’s ability. The Duke and Archen stood on either side of her, and Iris was in charge of the rear. The dogs and cats followed them lazily.
The journey to the gap between the worlds was smooth.
With one more person, they were able to defend against the monsters’ attacks more steadily, and it was much easier to kill them. The flock of monsters they had seen earlier was nowhere to be seen, and the only monsters they saw were one or two wandering around the city. The party crossed the city, defeating the wandering monsters one by one.
At this rate, closing the gap was a matter of time.
‘But something’s strange.’
Somehow, she couldn’t shake the feeling that it was the calm before the storm.
It was only natural, as the number of monsters should have increased as they got closer to the gap. According to Archen, monsters were pouring out of the gap. However, the number of monsters was decreasing instead of increasing, which was puzzling.
While she was lost in thought, Iris came running up to her and whispered.
“I think the aide has something to say to you. He keeps looking at you.”
“Huh? Yeah, I guess so.”
Just thinking about it made her head hurt, so Carinne rubbed her forehead.
Every time she saw Archen or heard his voice, the words ‘You’re being selfish’ seemed to pierce her heart. The more she thought about it, the more annoyed she became, but at the same time, she wondered, ‘Have I really been acting selfishly?’
