The Male Lead’s Sickly Aide is My Type - Chapter 101.2
Chapter 101 .2
“Iris, you need to be careful with Ian.”
“Oh, right. What did you say again? He’s a…”
“Womanizer.”
“Right, a womanizer! But Carinne, he doesn’t seem like one. He seems like a good person. We get along well, he’s warm-hearted, and…”
Fluffy clouds seemed to form above Iris’s head, each one filled with Ian’s good qualities.
‘I knew this would happen.’
Carinne felt a headache coming on and sighed deeply.
“Iris, you can’t judge a book by its cover. I didn’t want to tell you this, but…”
What would be the best way to shock Iris? Carinne considered a few options before choosing one.
“I heard when he came to Esmeril, he dated three women and then dumped them all.”
“Really?”
Iris’s jaw dropped in surprise.
The lie she’d just come up with was working well. Mentally cheering, Carinne continued with a serious expression.
“Yes. And those are just the ones I’ve heard about. There are probably more that no one knows about. Should I tell you more?”
“No, it’s okay. I see that I shouldn’t judge people based on their appearance.”
Iris seemed shocked. Muttering, ‘I guess you can’t trust people easily…,’ she seemed to have gained a significant life lesson.
Even though Carinne felt like she’d stained a pristine white cotton ball, not trusting people easily was a universal truth.
This time, she didn’t feel guilty.
Iris squeezed her hand with a determined look.
“Okay, I’ll be careful. You be careful too, Carinne.”
She even kindly expressed concern for her.
‘I can take care of myself.’
Carinne thought, then finally said what she’d been wanting to say.
“Of course. By the way, why don’t you go somewhere else with Duke Lucas? I’ll keep him occupied, and you can use the squirrels and acorns as an excuse to leave.”
“That’s a great idea. Carinne, you’re such a good friend!”
That settled it.
Warning Iris and separating her from Ian: complete! 100% achievement!
Carinne felt relieved, a weight lifted off her shoulders. Now, she had to go back to Archen and enjoy the rest of their outing. Glancing over, she saw Archen talking with Duke Lucas and Ian. Duke Lucas had his back turned, but unlike Ian, Archen’s face was angled towards her.
Whatever they were talking about, he seemed to be handling it well.
‘I suppose I don’t need to worry about Archen, unlike Iris.’
Now, how should she get rid of Ian? Should she say she has something to do and leave? But she’d already used that excuse.
As she considered the best approach, someone tapped her on the shoulder.
“Carinne, you said you like animals, right? So, have you ever thought about learning how to speak squirrel?”
Huh?
She… hadn’t said she wanted to learn. However, since she’d used her supposed love for animals as an excuse to pull Iris away, it was hard to say no. Carinne gave a noncommittal smile, which Iris took as agreement and clapped her hands.
“Wow, this is my first time teaching someone something!”
Carinne suddenly became a student in ‘Squirrel Language 101.’
* * *
As Carinne and Iris disappeared towards the lakeshore, three men remained on the picnic blanket. Duke Lucas and Archen were desperately pretending not to see each other when Ian asked.
“Do you two know each other?”
“….”
“….”
No one answered. Duke Lucas looked away, feigning disinterest, while Archen remained coldly silent. Ian looked back and forth between them before letting out a short exclamation as if he’d just received an answer.
“Ah, I see. You seemed awkward. So, it’s because you’ve just met. I thought you were rivals or something.”
Duke Lucas’s already cold expression hardened further. His eyes twitched as he turned to Archen, a stiff smile on his lips.
“Welser Lucas. Call me Duke Lucas.”
Archen gave the Duke an incredulous look before mirroring his smile. His eyes and mouth conveyed completely opposite emotions.
“Archenas. Since we’ve met like this, shall we shake hands?”
“Let’s do so.”
The tendons on the backs of their hands stood out as they shook hands.
Had they been holding thumbtacks, they probably would have pressed them into each other’s palms. After the brief handshake, Duke Lucas hid his now-pale hand behind his back while Archen, still smiling, massaged his hand with the other.
Ian quietly smiled while watching the two men glaring at each other as if they were ready to kill.
