Yves spoke.
“First things first, add more height to the building and raise it to four storeys. Lay white marble on the floor of the lobby, and put a red carpet atop it. The windows can be fitted with Velossian glass, and expand the grounds as much as possible so that the garden can be spacious.”
However, Radis answered.
“Two floors are enough for now. As I told you before, it doesn’t have to be fancy—strong wood will do. The walls don’t matter either, but the roof needs more reinforcement.”
Looking alternately between the two, Jacob was puzzled.
He was a member of the architectural guild, who was here to talk to Radis about the renovation of the tavern in the outskirts of Loire.
Yet Yves was here as well, and all he’d been doing until now was suddenly stepping in here and there, talking about absolute nonsense.
Radis sighed.
“Please ignore what the Marquis is saying… No, you can think of them as jokes to lighten the mood.”
Jacob smiled and nodded.
“I didn’t realize that Your Excellency is such a light-hearted man. I’ve prepared swatches of wood for the flooring to show you. They’re quite sturdy ones.”
Jacob then took out the pieces of wood from his huge bag and lined them up on the table.
Yves was persistent though.
“You didn’t bring any swatches for marble tiles?”
Radis just pulled on Yves’s arm and sat him back down.
“Marquis, how many times do I have to repeat it? No marble. No glass windows. This building is a tavern! It wouldn’t be able to bear the weight of all that!”
“Then you can just fix it up so that it’ll be able to bear the weight, yes?”
Yves looked at Jacob haughtily and asked.
“Is it possible?”
Flustered, Jacob responded.
“In order to do so, we’ll have to demolish the tavern and build an entirely new structure. It can’t just be a minor renovation, Your Excellency.”
Radis hastily intervened.
“You made a promise, didn’t you, Marquis? Just a minor renovation.”
“……”
Yves looked like he had bitten his tongue, but soon enough, he spoke again.
“Then at least repaint the walls! I won’t compromise on that!”
“Haa, seriously…”
Radis had no intention of using this place as her guild’s base for a long time.
It was the most intact building near Monsterwood, but it was still far from the forest itself.
She intended to use this place as only a temporary residence, so she just needed to renovate it only slightly.
Just enough to fix up the parts in disrepair.
However, Yves stepped in, and his stubbornness was making the renovation of a bigger scale than she had imagined.
“Come on, that’s minor enough. Have the walls repainted.”

Unable to resist Marquis Russell’s order, Jacob had to write ‘repaint’ on the contract.

Watching them, Radis just shook her head.
At the end of it all, Jacob stood up from his seat, carrying a contract that’s much longer than the original one due to the many various additional orders that had been made.
“Then, I shall carry out the renovation as we have discussed.”
“I’ll leave it to you.”
“…Yes, of course. I’ll do my best.”
When Jacob left the room, Yves’s demeanor changed and soon clung to Radis.
“Radis, let’s have dinner together!”
“……”
“What? Tonight’s dinner menu is your favorite—deer steak! Some good meat came in, and I told Brendon not to skimp on the servings tonight.”
Radis narrowed her eyes at Yves.
With how uncontrollable Yves had been, the renovation period of the building had become much longer than she was anticipating.
Because of this, she would have to delay the recruitment of new employees, and all the rest of her plans would have to be pushed back a little.
But it didn’t look like it ever occurred to him that he was being a hindrance.
Yves just wanted to be nicer to Radis.
It was a bit of a bother though.
‘Well, I guess I can just take my time. It’s fine.’
Radis smiled and linked her arm with Yves’s.
“Shall we?”
When she smiled, the relaxed Yves smiled broadly.
“Come, come. I told them to set up the table at the greenhouse. Let’s go!”
As they walked out of the mansion and towards the direction of the greenhouse, Yves looked genuinely happy.
“Radis, the sky is so very pretty.”
Radis also looked up at the sky.
Just as Yves said, the clear blue sky was beautiful, white fluffy clouds floating leisurely here and there.
“I didn’t know there was a tree like this on this path.”
Yves stopped in his tracks and looked at the honeysuckle tree with white flowers.
“I noticed that it started having buds last week, and now the flowers have bloomed,” Radis commented.
“This is pretty, too.”
“Do you like it? Admire it as much as you can while it’s blooming. Flowers wither quickly.”
“When will these flowers wither?”
“Hmm, in about a week, I think.”
Yves seemed taken aback by what Radis said so casually.
“The flowers… only bloom for a week? Even though it’s a flowering tree? Aren’t flowering trees supposed to bloom all year round?”
