Chapter 184

“What are you talking about? Once the flowers wither, the tree will bear fruit. When the fruits fall, the leaves will follow and fall as well—then winter comes.”
“It’ll bear fruit? Like an apple?”
“Since it’s a honeysuckle tree, it’ll bear something similar to a cherry instead…”
“I didn’t know. Why didn’t I know until now?”
Yves looked at the honeysuckle tree’s flowers with a serious face. Then, reaching out, he picked out a small white flower and tucked it in Radis’s hair.
“Marquis… What are you doing?”
Yves spoke in a serious tone.
“Radis, this is the prettiest flower of this tree.”
“Then why did you pick it…?”
“I’m giving it to you because it’s the prettiest.”
Radis couldn’t help but chuckle. Even though this was his own mansion, walking down a path that he must have gone through dozens of times, Yves was like an adventurer traveling to different lands, discovering something completely new.
It was an ordinary and beautiful spring.
Camellia flowers as big as fists bloomed amongst the dark green leaves of the camellia trees.
Whenever the wind blew, the sweet scent of the west-facing lilacs would follow the breeze, and the small flowers of the fruit trees were as lovely as the stars above.
And here, Yves couldn’t stay still for a moment as he admired the landscape around him. He was like a huge black dog that’s excited for springtime.
“Come on.”
Without a moment to stop him, Yves picked another flower—a vivid camellia this time—and presented it to Radis.
Looking down at the brutally bent camellia branch, Radis just sighed.
“The gardener must have worked hard to raise these plants…”
“But isn’t it my garden? I’m the one raising them all so that I can admire them like this.”
This was what the owner of the mansion thus proclaimed.
That aside, Yves stretched out his arms, his eyes curved pleasantly as he looked around at the flowers blooming in the tall trees.
‘Is it because he’s tall? He looks like the focal point of a painting right now.’
Yves’s efforts to overcome his obsession with black-colored clothes seemed to be bearing fruit as well.
His pants were still black, but the loose silk shirt he was wearing now was of a soft cream hue.
It was the very same shade of the magnolia flowers that were blooming beautifully above Yves.
While wearing a soft shirt like this instead of a black suit, Yves no longer looked threatening.
And after he asked April for a trim, his hair also looked pretty neat.
“Radis.”
In the midst of white petals, Yves looked at her and smiled brightly.
Seeing him smiling amidst those flowers made Radis think of only one word.
Beautiful.
“Take this, too!”
And when Yves gave her a large white flower, the smile he also conveyed to her was blinding.
Radis smiled back, pleased. And she thought,
‘Why oh why was Yves’s first love a black angel? Aren’t an angel’s wings usually white? I wish it was a white angel instead.’
Once they arrived at the greenhouse, Radis now carried a large bouquet of various flowers.
Just in time, the gardener passed by and took the bouquet, saying that he would trim the stems for her.
Dinner was served. And, as Yves had previously said, on tonight’s menu was a lavish amount of deer meat.
They enjoyed their meal while looking around the garden, where the season of spring had touched and changed. It was very peaceful and pleasing.
“Radis.”
From the other side of the table, Yves called her name.
“I always have the best time whenever I’m with you.”
Holding her fork and knife, Radis was in the middle of slicing through her sautéed deer meat, but she looked up at Yves blankly.
After wandering through the garden’s trees, Yves’s hair had become disheveled and smeared with some yellow pollen.
Beneath the soft light of the setting sun, Yves smiled innocently, looking like a beautiful shepherd loved by the goddess.
‘How can he be so different from when we first met?’
Silently, Radis wondered who that dark, intimidating man was when they first met.
Radis reached forward and gently brushed off the pollen from his hair.
“I feel the same way.”
When Radis reached over and touched his hair, Yves bowed and rubbed his head against her palm wildly.
Radis couldn’t help but laugh at the sight of this overgrown puppy who looked so happy to be patted.
After their meal, dessert was served. It was pudding made with edible violets.
However, Allen brought with him not just one tray but two.
“Was another dessert prepared?”
Instead of answering, Allen set down the tray in front of Yves.
When he opened the cloche, a letter was revealed.
Allen beamed.
“It just arrived.”
Yves tore open the seal and immediately checked the letter.
And as he read through the letter’s contents, Radis watched as the soft smile keeping the corners of his lips afloat disappeared little by little.
“What is it? Is it something serious?”
Yves’s expression didn’t look so good, so Radis couldn’t help but ask what the letter was about.
However, Yves read through the whole letter first, then silently handed it to Radis.
