Savage Forest - Chapter 113.2
Fiarca hurriedly replied.
“I know, I know. I’ve heard about your situation.”
Enya unconsciously placed her hand on her stomach.
Old Lady Piache had also said that having another child was unlikely.
Remembering that, her heart ached sharply.
Enya tried to shift her thoughts. Since Tarhan left for Garganta, she hadn’t had her period even once. And if she were pregnant, she would have known. She had ample experience with pregnancy, even if there were no children.
“Maybe after all this is over…”
The forest had begun to heal her leg, so perhaps her period might start again. The possibility, though uncertain, made her heart beat faster for the first time in a long while.
While Enya was lost in thought, the wolf approached and started licking her hand.
“Stop it.”
Enya pushed the playful wolf away, feeling ticklish.
At that moment, the wolf’s tail, which had been swishing, suddenly stopped. As she instinctively looked up, she sensed something strange, almost instinctively.
“Huht…!”
Her eyes soon detected an enormous amount of spiderwebs, making her breath gasp. Fiarca also held her breath. Even though she had often had to deal with spider webs, she had never seen a web stretched across the forest like this, dividing it in half.
Enya was left speechless by the web that had been set up like a barrier. However, the shock didn’t end there. The two of them discovered Silanda tangled in the web and rushed to her in horror.
“D*mn it!”
“Silanda! How did this happen…?”
Silanda, who had been guarding the sleeping Senu, had gotten entangled in the web while she was briefly off to relieve herself in the wrong part of the underbrush.
“This is so tough!”
Silanda struggled in terror.
“Don’t move! If you move, you’ll attract the skull spider!”
Fiarca shouted.
“What we want is its molted shell, not the spider itself!”
Suddenly, a scream came from Senu’s side.
The web had now spread to the edge of the forest where they had been resting. Spider webs were visibly hanging down from above.
From somewhere, the sound of monkeys screeching could be heard. The forest echoed with the loud commotion, startling the birds, which flapped and soared into the air. Senu quickly grabbed the weapon wrapped in cloth.
“Hold on a moment, Senu! Don’t make any more noise…”
Enya felt a strange sensation.
Something was off.
Where had the web come from? It hadn’t been visible when they were choosing their resting spot. The wolf started barking wildly, and Enya noticed a large shape above.
She held her breath.
It was a round-shaped object. The first thing she noticed was the damp, dark fur. A massive body, divided into head and chest, hung between densely grown leaves, its presence imposing. Its legs had white stripes, resembling a giant monster with a skull-like appearance.
Senu dropped the weapon he was holding. It was the skull spider. The sheer size left everyone speechless.
As Silanda struggled in terror, Fiarca shouted.
“Everyone, be quiet! That’s its molted shell!”
With that, everyone exhaled, having held their breath. Enya, amidst her unsteady breathing, tried to think clearly.
‘Is that the molted shell? That huge thing?’
Now that she thought about it, the skull spider’s body hadn’t moved at all since earlier.
“Everyone, calm down. Since there’s a molted shell, it’s likely that the real one is nearby. Prepare to flee and focus on getting Silanda out of the web.”
Fiarca commanded.
She immediately started to free Silanda from the web. Enya recalled Fiarca’s comment that the skull spider wasn’t inherently harmful to humans and stared intently at the molted shell. The shell still clearly showed the eight legs and eight eyes of the spider.
‘I never imagined I’d see the appearance of a forest spirit gone mad since the Daughter of the Forest disappeared like this.’
With Fiarca’s help, Silanda was almost free. Fortunately, only a small part of her body was still tangled, and Fiarca was carefully cutting the web with a dagger.
Enya slowly approached the web.
She stared intently at it.
As she touched the web slowly, the sticky yet soft liquid wrapped around her fingers. Surprised by the astonishingly elastic and strong viscosity, Enya quickly pulled her fingers away.
“D*mn it! This is a web? It’s like a rope…!”
Silanda’s grumbling could be heard nearby.
Just as Silanda was almost free, Enya continued to observe the web.
Suddenly, she noticed the web stretching out before her. Something seemed off. There was a faint smoke rising from the web. It was a very fine smoke like the steam rising from freshly cooked rice or warm potatoes. Then came a loud thud, followed by a horrific scream.
It was Jahan.
He had fallen backward, pointing at the surface of the molted shell and screaming as if fainting again.
“Ah, ah, ah, ah…!”
Enya looked up.
And there it was.
Slightly larger than the molted shell, a real skull spider surrounded by dense, vivid purple-black fur.
