Curiosity piqued, I quickly followed them into the elevator.
The two descended to the 20th basement level and entered a room with a stern demeanor.
The room, appearing to be a laboratory, was filled with familiar faces, but Ciel was still nowhere to be seen.
Could this be a parallel universe rather than a look into the past?
Lost in thought, I gasped when a frosted window in the lab turned transparent.
Inside was Lee Seo-yoon. With both arms missing, she was tied up with various cords, and as she struggled, the machine checked something off.
The researchers were pleased with what they saw. It was clear what state she was in, though it didn’t necessarily make Seo-yoon look pitiable.
I started to have a rough idea of where I was.
Standing in front of the window, watching Seo-yoon’s struggle, I turned to look at Seohyun.
Our eyes met.
I wasn’t sure when she started watching me, but Seohyun, who seemed to recognize me, suddenly took off her combat gloves.
The familiar burn scar on her exposed hand told me everything.
Trembling, I looked at Seohyun. Her eyes softened. She showed me her hand, tapping the burn marks gently.
Then, she seemed to mouth something. I concentrated hard to read her lips.
‘I’m happy. Are you?’
“Yes, me too,” I replied immediately.
‘Take care of our family, please.’
It seemed like the real Seohyun called me here just to say this. Perhaps the Goddess Astera had a hand in this?
“Don’t worry, Irene.”
‘Okay, I trust you, Yoo Seohyun.’
Feeling like I had resolved an issue that had always lingered in my mind, I woke from the dream.
Though I had just woken up, I was still dazed, pondering if my dream was real before taking a deep breath. I felt relieved.
“Huu…”
“Milady, are you awake?”
“Yes, come in.”
“It’s time to start getting ready.”
“Okay.”
I could hear all the hustle and bustle outside as I got ready.
Finally, all preparations were complete, and I entered the bridal waiting room. I felt oddly emotional. From the dream last night to now, on the cusp of our second wedding.
“My daughter…”
Dad came to escort me. He had been looking melancholy since morning and now, tearfully extending his arm to me.
“Dad, I’ll always be your daughter.”
“Of course! That goes without saying…”
Escorted by my reliable dad, I headed towards the wedding venue. Before entering, I saw Mom, David, and Violet standing by the door.
“I love you, my daughter.”
“Rin, congratulations.”
“Congratulations, Lady Irene.”
“I love you too. And congratulations to you both as well.”
Surrounded by my family, who are more than just my support system but my very roots, I turned my gaze to Ciel who approached me. He was still looking so unbelievably dashing in his tuxedo.
Facing him in his second wedding tuxedo, I smiled with happiness. He extended his arm to me and whispered softly,
“Rin, I’m truly grateful that you’re becoming my spouse again. In the past, and now, you are the most beautiful to me.”
With a smile that seemed to burst with happiness, he couldn’t take his eyes off me.
Thinking back, his gaze was the same in the past. It was as if he was going to devour me, yet persistently trying to win my heart—it was that same intense look.
“You were, and still are, the best-looking face to me.”
My joke made him laugh, showing his bright teeth. It was the look I loved the most about him. At that moment, we heard the officiant’s voice from afar.
“Now, the bride and groom, please enter.”
Together, we gazed forward with resolve. With each step taken towards the future, we were remarried, rebinding our fates and reuniting as partners once more.
