My Past Life is Riddled With Many Sins - Chapter 7
He might have become the pope, or at least a clergy member of the rank of Archbishop Duke. Everyone acknowledged him as a being loved by God, worthy of that position. In the natural order of things, he should have become a servant of God, and that’s who Yekarna took.
Yekarna needed a legitimate child from the Empire’s most prominent noble family of Prince-Elector, Duchy Eidenberg. And the Duke and Duchess of Eidenberg didn’t want the family legacy to be severed. No matter how honorable it might be to become a priest.
Thanks to this mutual interest, Yekarna effortlessly acquired him.
The day before he was to come to be welcomed to the temple, with the tacit approval of the Duke and Duchess, Yekarna invaded his bedroom without his consent.
Divine power could only be used by the pure in body.
Thus, he permanently lost the qualification to become a priest and insteal became the spouse of Yekarna, the princess.
This alone provided Friedrich Eidenberg with more than enough reason to hate Yekarna. However, Yekarna’s misdeeds were surprisingly just starting.
As the memories flashed through her mind like flipping through pages, Regina screamed inside. What kind of person was she that no matter how many wrongs she recalled, the end was nowhere in sight.
Using a vow that she would look at him for a lifetime, she gently lured him, got married, and then, like flipping the back of her hand, bringing in concubines one after another and playing with lovers, she did all sorts of things. She even committed some heinous acts…
“Grand Duke, come over here. Why are you standing there?”
“There’s a Margrave Linzmeyer on the bed. What’s going on?”
“Ah, I thought the three of us could spend some time together amicably for once.”
“…What?”
“Well, I want to feel the warmth by snuggling up without any gaps front and back, and the Grand Duke only has one body, right? So, what can I do? Come here and hug me. I’ll leave the back to Skyley anyway. Skyler likes being behind me, after all.”
Regina shuddered. Just thinking about it made a cold sweat run down her neck.
‘What on earth was Yekarna thinking to live like that.’
She didn’t even want to call that ‘me.’ Even though it was her past life, she felt like keeping as much distance as possible.
Anyway, if she listed all the various sins she had committed against him, there would probably be more in terms of variety and quantity than a banquet. So, she had to avoid him. In her past life, her status as Emperor protected her. But unlike Yekarna, Regina was a commoner.
She was worried about the way back to her room after washing. Just in case she ran into him.
‘I’ll open the door slightly, check if he’s on the first floor, and if he’s not, quickly go upstairs to the second floor.’
If he’s on the first floor, she has no choice but to wait outside until he returns to his room.
After finishing her bath, Regina, with a nervous heart, grabbed the doorknob at the entrance of the inn. She opened it with one finger just enough to peek inside quickly. He wasn’t there. She quickly jumped into her room on the second floor, the leftmost one.
“Haa.”
Regina, who successfully returned to her quarters without encountering him, sat down on the bed with a flop. A sense of exhaustion overwhelmed her. Even when moving stealthily to avoid being noticed by the enemy during the war, she wasn’t nervous like this.
Perhaps due to the exertion, her hunger returned. Originally, she planned to bathe, come out and eat once, and then eat again before leaving tomorrow morning, as two meals were included in the room rate. However, she couldn’t muster the courage to go down to the first floor to have a meal. After going through such a strenuous evasion maneuver, should she take the risk of going down to the first floor?
“I’ll just go hungry.”
Skipping two meals won’t kill her. However, she was tight on funds, and giving up two free meals that come with the accommodation seemed wasteful.
Struggling with primitive desires, Regina suddenly felt ridiculous, thinking, ‘Why am I being pathetic?’ So, she just lay down. Not eating for a day won’t kill her. If she falls asleep, she might forget about hunger.
Regina closed her eyes and forced herself into sleep.
The consequences of not drying her hair properly were severe. Regina, who woke up in the middle of the night, found her hair sprawled in all directions. It was as stiff as a broom, with a stubborn texture, and it caused quite a mess.
Regina combed her disheveled dark wheat-colored hair with her hands a few times, then roughly gathered it into a single ponytail. It still stuck out in all directions, but it was better than leaving it loose.
“It was between 5 AM and 10 PM.”
Touching her hungry belly, Regina recalled the innkeeper’s words. It was evident that it was well past 10 PM without even looking at the clock.
Yekarna wasn’t particularly sensitive to hunger. Skipping a meal or two was common for her. Even if she skipped two meals, she didn’t feel a desperate need for food.
However, Regina was different. Skipping a meal made her constantly think about food. Does changing the body also change one’s thoughts?
“This body isn’t suitable for survival.”
Regina hoped that patience wasn’t an area influenced by the body as she scrunched her brows in disapproval.
Staying still, the flow of consciousness naturally went to the man she had seen during the day.
‘He had black hair.’
Friedrich Eidenberg had long silver hair that fell to his waist. Even the color of his hair, noble and brilliant, gave the impression that he was receiving God’s love. Upon seeing him, people often associated him with angels, fairies, or otherworldly beings. However, the hair Regina had glimpsed earlier was as black as a crow.
It seemed that God’s favor still persisted, and in this life, too, he was born into a noble status. Although the details had changed, his appearance was still as handsome as in the previous life.
Regina, born as a commoner and less attractive than in her previous life, didn’t consider it unfair. She believed that there should be a difference between those who committed many sins in their past life and those who didn’t.
“Live happily from now on, Friedrich.”
She meant it sincerely. This time, she hoped he would lead a smooth life without obstacles like Yekarna.
