“I have a favor to ask. Can we change the topic of our project? I suddenly have a topic I really want to explore.”

“What is it?”

“The Middle Earth-Demon War.”

As a student, this would be the best way to learn about the devilkins. Therefore, Regina was determined, regardless of whether they objected or not.

“I really want to do this. It’s important.”

“Well, I’m okay with changing it.”

Arthur replied, glancing at Hailey for her reaction. Hailey quickly nodded her head.

“Yeah, that’s fine by me.”

“Thanks. Let’s head to the library to gather materials. Since there’s more information about the Middle Realm, you two can handle that together, and I’ll take care of the Demon Realm side. Let’s meet again in a week for a check. Any other comments or questions?”

Hailey and Arthur exchanged glances, then simultaneously responded,

“No.”

Since they were already in perfect harmony, it seemed they would work well together in the future. Regina was pleased.

“Great, then let’s call it a day. See you in a week.”

A sword wrapped in golden mana effortlessly sliced through the monster.

The man staggered back. This must be a terrible nightmare.

One person. Over a hundred monsters were being annihilated by just one intruder.

Every swing of the sword with its clean trajectory ensured the death of at least three creatures. It was beautiful yet destructive, cruel yet impassive. Not like a sword but as a scythe wielded by a reaper.

As the last four creatures fell in a single sweep, the intruder approached. The man, engulfed in fear, stepped backward.

“Stay away, don’t come any closer!”

The robed figure continued advancing, ignoring his cries.

Step by step, the sound of footsteps grew closer, causing the man to panic and scream.

“Save, save me! Please!”

“Why should I?”

The intruder’s voice was low but unmistakably that of a human female. Hope flickered in the terrified man’s eyes. According to their research, human females were generally more moderate and empathetic compared to males.

The man put on his most pitiful expression and pleaded.

“I haven’t killed a single human. I never wanted to come to the Middle Realm in the first place. I was betrayed by my closest friend and lover, forced here against my will. They thought it would be easier for them if I just disappeared.”

“Hmm, and?”

The human female seemed intrigued.

“I need to go back. If I die here, it’s just what they want, and I can’t let it end like this. I have to return alive and take my revenge.”

He appealed with tears, fabricating a story mixed with elements that were popular among humans, according to his research.

Betrayal by a trusted friend, abandonment by a loved one, enduring hardships, and ultimately achieving revenge and justice—these were all elements of a traditional story structure that humans favored.

Rooting for fictional characters in such tales was a typical human trait. Surely, she would let him live.

Just as he was inflated with hope, she said,

“Rejected.”

“Excuse me?”

“The novel market is completely saturated these days. That level isn’t enough. If it had been some fresh nonsense, maybe I would have spared you for another five minutes, but no…”

The woman clicked her tongue in disapproval and removed the hood she had been wearing. Her red hair cascaded down like a waterfall. Golden eyes stared directly at him.

His face contorted with shock.

Under normal circumstances, he would have first admired the woman’s beauty, as their species shared quite similar aesthetics with humans. But the combination of red hair, golden eyes, and formidable swordsmanship skills led him to a very ominous conclusion.

There was a creature in the Middle Realm they should never encounter, and she met all the criteria.

The Empress of the Empire.

The reaper of Enfield.

“Dangerous Individual Number 5…”

“What? I’m only number 5?”

Yekarna Barrett Villarperosa Lee Enfield grimaced displeased.

“There are four ahead of me. Seems like I need to work harder.”

Her sword, engulfed in brilliant mana, cleanly bisected the devilkin’s male body.

After witnessing a monster at the academy, Regina had almost locked herself in the library, except for attending lectures, training sessions, and meals.

The academy library was among the top five repositories of books in the empire.

To specify the ranking, the first was a vault accessible only to the Emperor, followed by the Imperial Palace Library, then the capital Ultima’s Mary Library, with the academy library in fourth place.

‘I should visit the Mary Library this weekend.’

Some books here might not be there, and vice versa. It was important to explore as many libraries as possible.

‘This is also something I read during Yekarna’s time.’

Regina irritably flipped through the pages, frustrated that there was no new information. It had been over two hundred years. More research should have been conducted, yet nothing useful caught her eye.

Were they not researching all this time and just having fun instead?

Regina sighed and closed the book she was reading and opened a new one. After spending considerable time gathering information, she headed to the training grounds to start her practice.

Frankly, in this life, she had no intention of dedicating herself to sword training. She wasn’t living off the sword, and without political enemies plotting her assassination, what was the point?

Having just enough strength to protect herself and her family was enough, she thought.

In the worst-case scenario, she could forcibly draw on her mana, even if it strained her body. But with the monsters’ appearance, the circumstances had changed.

She needed to become as strong as possible, to rival, if not surpass, Yekarna in her previous life.
