My Contract Husband is Going Crazy Because of My Iron Wall - Chapter 47.1
Chapter 47.1
“Wait? That’s not it?”
Catherine gave me a puzzled look as she saw my bewilderment.
“Ah… Is this perhaps a gift for Marquess Leopold, not the Grand Duke?”
Like Reinhardt, Amil had black hair and blue eyes, and the rumor that Amil and I were having an affair had spread throughout the mansion, so it was understandable that Catherine would suspect such a thing.
Oh no, if another false rumor spread, it would be troublesome.
I quickly corrected Catherine’s misunderstanding.
“No. How could that be?! Of course, it’s a gift for Reinhardt!”
“Aha! I guess I was wrong!”
Catherine smiled with relief and then tilted her head as if she suddenly remembered something.
“But didn’t you buy a bonnet too? Is that a gift for the Grand Duke as well?”
Did I buy a bonnet as well? I didn’t know because I just swept everything into the bag as I came across it…
“Ah… I guess I had a baseless prejudice. Well, you know, there are various tastes in the world!”
She smiled awkwardly and then muttered softly, which I heard all too well.
“The bonnet that Marquess Leopold was wearing… it wasn’t Marquess Leopold’s taste, but the Grand Duchess’s…”
Jade, that blabbermouth. I told him to keep it a secret, but he just went and told Catherine everything! Now, I’m being misunderstood as someone with unique tastes!
I tried to change the subject nonchalantly.
“So, you seem to be very close to Viscount Mute, judging by the fact that you share such things…?”
“We’ve been working together for a long time, so… Um… But what do you mean by sharing things?”
“The story about Marquess Leopold wearing a bonnet.”
“Oh my! How did you know that Jade told me?!”
“You just muttered it?”
“Did I?!”
I guess she didn’t know… I nodded with a slight twitch of my lips.
“Oh my. I’m sorry! I have a habit of saying what’s on my mind without realizing it… Ah, well… It’s not Jade’s fault! I just overheard him talking to himself while drunk. There was no one else drinking with him except me, so I must have been the only one who heard it!”
“Yeah… I don’t mind, but if rumors spread, it will be hard for Marquess Leopold. It would be troublesome if anyone other than me knew about Marquess Leopold’s unique taste.”
I emphasized exactly who had the unique taste so that I wouldn’t be embarrassed for trying to cover for Amil.
By the way, Catherine just said that Jade only drinks with her.
As I thought, there was something going on between those two. The thought crossed my mind for a moment but I quickly dismissed it, remembering that my intuition about love was terrible.
Well, maybe they just had good chemistry.
While we were talking, Catherine and I continued to browse the shops, and we entered a painting store next.
Looking at various paintings, such as a picture of a gorgeous rose flower and a portrait of a couple, I suddenly stopped in front of a painting of a wolf. The dignified gray fur and charismatic golden eyes looked just like Reinhardt.
‘I can’t believe I’m thinking about Reinhardt again…’
“It looks like Jade…”
However, Catherine seemed to have a different thought than me.
Jade had gray hair and golden eyes, but wasn’t he too different from that wolf in terms of charisma? Instead of contradicting Catherine, I just smiled broadly. Her face looked so happy as she looked at the painting.
“Catherine. You look happy.”
“Yes?! Me?”
“Yes. You’re smiling.”
Catherine touched my face, and suddenly, her cheeks turned bright red.
“I guess so… I was smiling.”
She said as if she realized something and then glanced at me.
“The Grand Duchess is smiling, too.”
“Yes. I smiled seeing you happy looking at the painting.”
“I don’t think so…”
“If I say so, then it is.”
I said sternly and immediately told the owner of the painting store that I would buy the wolf painting.
I had to put it on the wall of the hallway that Catherine often passes by. It was a place I often pass by, too, but anyway, this was for Catherine!
* * *
“But when are you going to give these to him?”
As soon as we returned to the mansion after our outing, Catherine asked, holding up the shopping bags. Since I blurted out that they were gifts for Reinhardt, I guessed I had to give them to him anyway?
“Um… Now?”
“Then I’ll go get the Grand Duke right away!”
Catherine said, even more excited than I was. Oh, I said it was now, though I wasn’t mentally prepared yet?
“Ri, right now?!”
“Huh? You said you’d give it to him now. When else are you going to give it to him?”
“Ah… No, I have to give it to him now…”
Strike while the iron was hot, I guess it was better to give it to him quickly since I was going to give it to him anyway. My hands trembled at the thought of facing Reinhardt again, although I didn’t stop Catherine from running off.
And so, after Catherine brought Reinhardt back.
“….”
“….”
Reinhardt seemed equally awkward, unable to look at me directly.
Catherine, who couldn’t bear to watch any longer, whispered, ‘Hurry up and give it to him!’ The awkward atmosphere continued until then.
“Here… Reinhardt. A gift.”
