My Contract Husband is Going Crazy Because of My Iron Wall - Chapter 41.1
Chapter 41.1
When I first signed a contract with Reinhardt, it was spring, though time had flown by so quickly that it was already early summer.
‘I heard that southerners find the early summer in the north cold.’
When I go to the North, I would miss the weather in the South.
Wanting to enjoy it one last time, I left Reinhardt’s office and went for a walk alone. I walked under the moderately warm sunlight, looking at the fresh green leaves, when I saw Amil walking toward me from the other side of the street.
For some reason, he had a more aloof look in his eyes than usual. He slowly approached me and opened his mouth.
“My second awakening is over.”
He must have realized how strange his behavior had been during that time since he knew that I was aware of it.
I sincerely patted his shoulder.
“You must have had a hard time.”
“I was very rude to Irovel during that time…”
Amil couldn’t lift his head because he was so embarrassed about his behavior.
“It’s okay. You must have had a lot of headaches trying to clean up the mess you made during that time, so take it easy.”
“Sigh… I don’t know how I’m going to clean it up. I ignored His Majesty the Emperor and my father’s contact, and yesterday…”
Amil showed me a poster and continued.
“I even auditioned for a play.”
“Oh my, did you get the part?”
“The results will be out tomorrow.”
“If you get the part, are you going to become an actor?”
“I don’t know… If I get the part but don’t take the opportunity, I think I’ll regret it a lot, but if I become an actor, I think I’ll be laughed at.”
In aristocratic society, doing the same dance and singing the same song would be considered buffoonery if done in a theater, but if done at a party, it would be considered cultured and aristocratic. It was ridiculous—the same dance, but the venue changed, and the treatment was completely different.
“So, which would make you happier, becoming an actor or being recognized by people?”
“…It’s hard to compare. Both are ultimately about being admired by people. I don’t think I want to miss out on either.”
“Then, become an actor and be recognized by not only the audience but also the aristocrats. It will be difficult at first, but if you want to catch both rabbits, you have no choice but to take the difficult path.”
My words seemed to make sense to him, and Amil looked at me with a look of realization and slight emotion.
“I caused you so much trouble… Why are you giving me such sincere advice?”
“I just wanted to.”
I closed my eyes and smiled before I continued, “Even though you annoyed me during that time, I didn’t suffer any major damage. It’s not that difficult to give advice. So, I just did what I wanted to do. I live my life doing what I want to do.”
“Doing what you want to do…”
Amil muttered the words blankly and then asked a question.
“What if something bad happens? What if the people who oppose you turn their backs on you, or your position is put in jeopardy?”
“If something that bad happens, I’ll have to compromise. Being recognized by people and having my position guaranteed are ultimately what I want.”
“I see.”
Amil nodded slightly. He paused as if to collect his thoughts, and I waited silently for him to speak.
After a while, he opened his mouth.
“Actually, during my second awakening, I enjoyed doing whatever I wanted so much. I’ve come to the point where I can’t live a life where I can’t resist my father’s coercion like before… So, from now on, I’m going to live my life catching as many rabbits as I can, just like Irovel said. I won’t lie down on the sofa and fall asleep right away because I’m sleepy.”
“That’s a good idea.”
I gave him a thumbs up and smiled, and Amil’s gaze lingered on me for a long moment. Then, as if he had suddenly remembered something, he exclaimed, ‘Ah,’ and ran down the street.
“Wait a minute!”
When he returned a moment later, he was hiding something behind his back. He walked towards me awkwardly and pulled out a bouquet of flowers.
“I bought these yesterday to give to Irovel. I want to give them to you right after my second awakening.”
“Then, I’ll have to decline. I don’t want to do anything that Reinhardt would disapprove of.”
“I thought you would say that, so I bought chrysanthemums. They mean ‘good friend’.”
If it were a flower that meant friend, then it would be fine…
‘There are few people who give bouquets to each other without any ulterior motives. It’s not like I have anything to celebrate.’
I shook my head firmly.
“I’m sorry, but no matter what the flower language is, Reinhardt would disapprove of me receiving this.”
“If that’s the case, there’s nothing I can do. Actually, I wanted to give you something else to compensate for the trouble I caused, but Reinhardt would disapprove of that, too.”
Amil calmly accepted my refusal.
“I think I’ll go back to Marquess Leopold’s mansion this afternoon. I can’t keep bothering you here. I won’t be able to see you for a while.”
He said in a bitter tone. Even though we had been threatening each other and bickering, now that there was no need for that, he seemed a little regretful.
Then, as if he had suddenly remembered something, he changed the subject.
“By the way, is there anything else that might happen after the second awakening?”
“No. You just have to live without taking a magic test, so be careful not to be chosen by His Majesty the Emperor.”
When I responded in a joking tone, Amil laughed and accepted my joke.
