Marriage with a Suspiciously Demure Husband - Chapter 95.1
Chapter 95.1
Unfamiliar faces greeted the carriage in unison. As soon as I stepped down, servants in neat uniforms bowed deeply.
“We trust your journey was pleasant, Your Excellency, Madam.”
A composed-looking butler stood at the forefront, addressing us. The atmosphere here was markedly different from Baron Edith’s estate in Ferrarium—the servants, the capital’s townhouse caretaker, everything.
A distinct air of calm and quiet pervaded the place, a stillness that seemed to settle over me as well. Behind them loomed an immense iron gate and a magnificent castle. This was the Duke Hadid’s castle… I never thought I’d actually be here.
Ironically, perhaps due to my own defiance, here I was.
It was far more imposing than described in the original story, draped in shades of gray. The journey had presented a panorama of towering houses and bustling shops; the nearby village seemed almost as sophisticated as the capital itself.
“My wife is tired. See to it that a bath is prepared.”
“Yes, Your Excellency. Your chambers are ready, and the bath has been drawn. We shall attend to you both shortly.”
I followed Kairos inside, the castle’s cool, gray exterior giving way to a surprising warmth.
“It’s like a greenhouse in here.”
I glanced around the hallway.
“You’ll get used to it. Let me know if there’s anything you need. I’ll have it arranged. These are your chambers.”
“Ah, then the room next door is…?”
“Mine as well.”
“Oh…”
It was astonishingly spacious, almost unnecessarily so.
“You’re not even trying to hide your disappointment.”
“I didn’t realize it was so obvious.”
Kairos chuckled at my grimace.
“I’ll have your usual staff assigned to you here as well.”
“Thank you.”
He hadn’t noticed Hizan, it seemed. I’d expected him to be more thorough. Kairos waited until the bath was drawn before excusing himself to finish some business, urging me to rest and recover from the journey.
“Allow me to assist you with your bath, Madam.”
“Thank you. I would appreciate that.”
Exhausted, I sank into the warm water, letting the servants attend to me. The long carriage ride had left my muscles stiff, and the bath soothed them.

Though everyone was kind, the unfamiliar surroundings left me on edge. While waiting for Kairos, I drifted off. A tickling sensation in my hair stirred me awake. My vision was blurry. The bedside lamps had been lit; night had fallen.
I started to sit up, then thought better of it, burying my face in the pillow instead. The maid had given me a massage earlier, and my body felt languid, almost boneless. Or perhaps it was the gentle stroking of my hair.
“When did you come in?”
“Just now.”
“You must be exhausted.”
“I’m fine. I rested.”
“The butler is very kind. As is Mrs. Tene, the head maid, whom I met earlier.”
“I’ll be sure to commend them.”
I slowly sat up, a lingering fog in my mind. My gaze drifted aimlessly from the edge of the bed to the floor. Kairos suddenly entered my line of sight.
“What are you thinking about?”
I frowned at the interruption, turning my head away. He simply pulled me, blankets and all, to face him.
“Honestly.”
“Hmm? Who are you thinking about?”
“…If coming here was the right thing to do.”
“…Do you regret it?”
“Well… Looking back on the past year, it’s been quite eventful.”
“I’ll do my best to make you comfortable here. Get some more sleep.”
He patted my back, and my eyes flickered to the clock. It was two in the morning. He told me to sleep, but he showed no signs of doing so himself. In fact, he looked as if he were about to leave.
I tilted my head.
“Do you have more work to do?”
“Just a few things to finish up. I’ll be back soon, so go to sleep.”
