I’m A Doll, But The Tyrant Is Obsessed With Me - Chapter 119
Mason (1)
Stella Este.
He was wary at first.
He thought she was a woman aiming for the emperor’s side, like Princess Medicis of Thierra Kingdom. However, facing Declan, she looked precarious, as if she would collapse soon. Only then did his eyes see her slender body, her legs shaking like a newborn calf.
Her golden eyes were full of fear.
Perhaps, that was why? Mason kept getting worried. He couldn’t figure out why his mood was thrown into a mess every time he saw her flinch at Prince Andre’s gaze.
‘She was an illegitimate child.’
He had received a list of envoys in advance and had completed the investigation.
‘She didn’t grow up being loved, but I was told that she was treated like a princess… Still, it’s not what I thought.’
When he saw her dragged away for the crime of trespassing into Declan’s bedroom, his fury rose up. He wanted to run right away and grab Andre by the collar. And as he watched her weep as she sat on the cold floor, he couldn’t contain the emotions that welled up in his heart, whatever it was.
“Help me. Please help me.”
When he saw her pleading and crying in prison, he was stabbed deep in the heart.
…He wanted to save her.
He wanted to help with all his might, if Declan wouldn’t.
After all the twists and turns, he was relieved when she was allowed to remain in the empire. The feelings, which he himself couldn’t comprehend, must be pity for her.
“Thank you very much.”
However, the moment he saw that smile as he guided her to the annex, he realized something was wrong. The smile resembling the morning dew didn’t seem to disappear as if it were engraved in his eyes.
This feeling was obviously not mere pity.
”The scented candle that Princess Medicis gave is said to contain sleeping poison.”
Declan’s nonchalant voice sounded cruel, and his eyes widened. After that, he didn’t know on what mind he ran to the villa.
“Hello, Chancellor.
The moment he saw her face as he entered the parlor, he realized it.
‘Ah, I don’t want to lose this woman.’
When did his heart get this deep? When he realized his heart, his lips could not open easily in bewilderment.
“What’s the matter? Maybe in Ielro…”
Her trembling voice brought him to his senses.
“No. It has nothing to do with Ielro.”
Just seeing the quivering golden eyes made his heart tingle.
“What a relief.”
How pitiful it was to see her sweeping her chest in relief. He wanted to stretch out his hand, hold her and support her.
“It is not different that I came here so suddenly… it’s because of Princess Medicis.”
“Ah. She came to see me a little while ago, but what about it?”
As Stella tilted her head with a puzzled face, her hair, resembling the clear sky, flowed down.
“Did Her Highness give you a present?”
“She gave me scented candles and went away.”
“Excuse me, but could you show me?”
At his words, she tilted her head but obediently handed over the box of scented candles. The box contained two scented candles with ornate patterns side by side. On the surface, it didn’t look much different from a regular scented candle.
‘…But if it’s what Miss Erica said, it would be certain.’
“Your Highness, I’m sorry, but could you please give me this scented candle?”
“Are there any problems?”
As her innocent face gradually hardened, Mason picked his words carefully to not startle her.
“I don’t know yet though there’s nothing wrong with being careful.”
“Does that mean that Princess Medicis is on the lookout for me?”
Contrary to her innocent and fragile appearance, like the plants in a greenhouse, she was quite quick-witted. Perhaps it was because of the difficult life in the royal palace.
The inside of his mouth was bitter for easily guessable reasons.
“I’m not sure. It’s just that Your Highness is more important to us than Princess Medicis.”
“I understand what you mean.”
“Thank you.”
“I really appreciate it, for taking care of me. Please give thanks to His Majesty as well.”
“Yes. If, by any chance, Princess Medicis comes to visit, please keep the scented candle a secret.”
“I will.”
Mason stood up from her seat, and Stella followed him up.
“You don’t have to come out.”
“No. You deliberately stepped forward because of me, so I want to see you off.”
Her round eyes were so beautiful that he couldn’t take his eyes off her.
* * *
“Chancellor, I have something to report to you.”
Mason’s face hardened when he saw a knight coming to him.
“Did something happen to Princess Este?”
“She is not waking up.”
On the knight’s report, Mason leaped up.
She was not waking up…
“In detail. Explain in detail.”
“When I called to her, she didn’t hear me, and she couldn’t even open her eyes. She keeps muttering something, and her breathing is getting faster and faster.”
His heart pounded, and his fingertips felt cold.
‘Obviously, the scented candles have been taken, but why is this happening?’
Was she just sick? She’d been in captivity all this time and must have been nervous all along, so she was sick.
‘Still, what if it’s not just an illness?’
Above all, if she couldn’t wake up, her condition was serious. At that moment, all sorts of negative thoughts pierced his head. Normally, he would have easily come up with solutions that corresponded to the case.
His clenched fist grew stronger.
“Sir, go back to the annex. I’ll take a doctor.”
As soon as the knight left the office, Mason rushed to find the Emperor.
“Your Majesty, please call the doctor!”
* * *
Fortunately, thanks to Erica, Stella was able to wake up.
“Mason, you should take a closer look at the Princess’ condition.”
“Ah, yes. I see.”
With her unexpected command, Mason responded with a slightly bewildered look. It was okay to ask the servants to check her condition.
…Did he reveal his feelings without even knowing it?
Mason’s expression became complicated as he looked at Declan’s back as he left.
“Chancellor…?”
His worries were quickly forgotten by the voice behind him.
“Are you okay?”
He hurried over to the bedside and sat down, examining Stella’s complexion.
“I’m okay.”
While her complexion returned, her face was still pale. His outstretched hand suddenly stopped in the air at the thought of wanting to convey warmth. Then, he turned and touched the disheveled hair on her pillow.
Despite the light touch, Stella’s eyes widened, and soon her pale face turned red.
“Please wait.”
In the meantime, Mason, who finished tidying up her hair, ordered a simple meal from the servants.
“Have you forgotten His Majesty’s words? Didn’t he tell me to lie down?”
In the meantime, looking at her, who was struggling to raise her body and sit down, he scolded her naturally. She couldn’t even raise her upper body a moment ago.
‘She must be uncomfortable.’
Although nominal, she would not be comfortable being with the chancellor of the empire where she was held hostage.
Maybe she felt compelled to be polite?
Rather than that, he wanted her to rest in peace.
“I’m really fine. And I want to talk to the Chancellor face to face.”
The feeling that had been sunk was surprisingly easily lightened by the small, whispered words. Mason laughed inwardly at the change in his emotions. He thought of himself as an idiot, but his body was drawn to the bed like a magnet, and he sat on it.
“Are you really okay?”
“Yes. I’m fine now.”
Stella smiled faintly and gave a small nod. It hurt his heart to see that her already small face was pale and thin.
“I must have lost my guard because I was relaxed. I’m sorry for bothering you.”
Actually, the culprit was walking around casually, but why was she, the victim, apologizing?
‘…I will not leave Princess Medicis alone.’
He secretly clenched his fists in a surge of emotion.
“It’s nothing for you to apologize for.”
Even though he wanted to tell the truth, he still couldn’t figure out exactly what had happened, and there was no evidence that Princess Medcsis was the culprit. Above all, he didn’t want to unsettle the person who had just found peace.
“Thank you, for taking care of me.”
“His Majesty sent a doctor.”
“I know it’s thanks to the Chancellor.”
Clear eyes straightened and reached Mason.
How did she know? Did she think he was watching? He trembled, afraid that she might be misunderstanding him.
“As I said last time, I wasn’t monitoring. I was supposed to be reported only when there’s a problem with Your Highness’ safety…”
“Chancellor.”
As Mason’s hurried excuse was interrupted by the soft voice, the tension-hardened blue eyes met calm golden ones.
“I know that the Chancellor is worried about me. I did not misunderstand.”
With a comfortable smile, Mason let go of the string of tension.
“There are more and more things to be thankful for the Chancellor every time. I don’t know how to repay this favor.”
“It’s enough for you to stay healthy and safe.”
The moment the words came out of his mouth, Mason realized that he wanted to protect her.
At the same time, Stella’s eyes, which had been staring at him wordlessly, curled like half moons. Beneath it, the golden eyes twinkled.
…Ah, even if star fragments were put into it, it wouldn’t be as shiny as those.
