Chapter 81

We fell asleep without realizing it.

I rubbed my eyes, which were still half-closed from sleep, and looked around. Zion and Tommy were still sound asleep.

‘What time is it?’

I checked the clock on the wall.

It was already 8 pm. Five hours had passed since I last checked the time.

“Zion, Tommy. Wake up.”

Tommy didn’t wake up, probably because he was in a deep sleep, but Zion opened his eyes immediately.

“Heyna…?”

He blinked a couple of times as if he were trying to wake up and spoke in a half-awake voice.

“How long did I sleep?”

“I don’t know. I just woke up too.”

“Then, did all three of us fall asleep?”

“Yeah. I think so.”

Zion muttered, tidying up his messy hair.

“That’s strange. I don’t usually sleep deeply in unfamiliar places….”

His gaze turned to the table.

“There might have been drugs in the dessert and tea.”

“Drugs… you mean sleeping pills?”

“Yes.”

Listening to Zion, I thought it might be true.

‘It is strange. Even though we were tired, we fell asleep too quickly.’

“Let’s call the butler first.”

As soon as Zion finished speaking…!

Knock, knock—

“Did you call?”

Pulse entered with a knock.

“…I didn’t call you separately, but how did you know I was going to call you?”

To Zion’s sharp question, Pulse replied in his usual gentle tone.

“As I said before, I manage the entire third floor. So I can hear you calling me anytime, anywhere here.”

“So you were listening to our conversation?”

“No, it’s not. All I can hear is the sound of someone looking for a ‘butler’. I can’t hear any other sounds. I won’t invade the privacy of our esteemed guests, so please don’t worry.”

“…Okay, I got it.”

If you call ‘butler’ on the third floor, Pulse can hear you anywhere. However, he cannot hear our conversation unless we call him.

It was very important information.

“What’s wrong? What’s going on?”

While we were talking, Tommy woke up too. Tommy blinked his eyes in confusion, as he didn’t know what Zion and I had been talking about until then.

“Why is the butler here?”

“It seems Mr. Zion has something to ask me.”

Pulse, who had explained to Tommy why he was here, asked Zion.

“So, why did you call me?”

“I called you to ask if there were any drugs in the dessert and tea we received earlier.”

Gasp.

I was flustered by Zion’s overly direct remark.

It’s true that I called Pulse here because I suspected he had put drugs in the food, but I didn’t expect him to ask so bluntly.

‘If you ask like that, who would answer yes, and…’

“Yes. That’s right.”

“Huh?!”

I couldn’t help but ask back loudly at his unexpected, bland answer. However, Pulse didn’t seem flustered at all.

“So, are you admitting that you drugged us right now, butler?”

To my question, he once again affirmed without hesitation.

“Yes, that’s right.”

“….”

I was speechless at his attitude, which seemed completely unconcerned.

‘What’s with his confidence?’

My question was soon resolved by his next words.

“It seems that you are all very tired, so I put fatigue recovery agents and nutritional supplements in the tea.”

“…Fatigue recovery agents and nutritional supplements? Not sleeping pills?”

“Yes. The fatigue recovery agents contain a small amount of sleep-inducing ingredients, but I have never added sleeping pills separately.”

‘So that’s why I was so sleepy.’

Maybe because he answered the question about drugs so easily? Pulse’s words didn’t feel like a lie.

“If you don’t believe me, I can bring you the drugs I used.”

“No. There’s no need to go that far.”

“Yes, I understand. Then, since you called me here, I will guide you through the rules of this place, the third floor, which I couldn’t tell you earlier.”

Pulse reached into his suit jacket pocket and pulled out something.

‘That’s…’

It was a pamphlet.

Pulse handed out pamphlets to me and Zion, and placed one on the bedside table of Tommy, who was still sleeping soundly.
