I Think I’m a Horror Game Villain - Chapter 29
Chapter 29
After finishing our meal, we took a short break, and Zion brought up a suggestion.
“Shall we go out and look around for a bit? Yesterday, we were so focused on the mission that we didn’t have a chance to check if there were any escape routes, so today, we should take a closer look.”
Tommy heard Zion’s words and threw himself on the bed as if to defy him.
“There’s no way that’s going to happen. I don’t want to waste my energy on a wild goose chase. I’ll wait here until the mission or whatever shows up, so you guys can go without me.”
Rose frowned at Tommy’s lazy words as he even pulled the covers over himself.
Zion, however, didn’t seem to mind Tommy’s attitude at all.
“Okay. Then Tommy can stay here, and the four of us can split into two teams and go around the first floor of the mansion. How about that?”
We decided to form teams by drawing lots, just like we did before.
‘I hope I’m on the same team as Dekir or Rose.’
* * *
“….”
“….”
An awkward atmosphere hung in the air as we walked down the hallway.
‘I knew this would happen.’
God had never been kind to me.
As fate would have it, I ended up on the same team as Zion. After we were left alone, we had been walking in silence until now.
‘This won’t do. I have to say something.’
I decided to take this awkward situation as an opportunity instead.
‘Now that it’s come to this, I’ll have a proper conversation with Zion. I’m also curious about what Zion was trying to tell me yesterday.’
Since there were only two of us, I didn’t have to worry about being overheard if I asked Zion a question that he might find difficult to answer. This was the perfect chance to have a serious talk with him.
“Zion!”
“Heyna?”
Did he have the same idea as me? Zion and I spoke at the same time.
“You go first.”
“No, you go first.”
“I don’t really have anything important to say….”
“Me neither.”
Before the atmosphere could get awkward again, I decided to speak first.
“What were you trying to say to me in the hallway yesterday?”
“Yesterday….”
A faint crease formed between his straight eyebrows. He seemed to be searching his memory.
“You called me after hide-and-seek was over.”
“Ah.”
Zion let out a short sigh and hesitated. His lips, which had been slightly parted as if he were about to say something, quickly pressed together into a firm line.
“It’s nothing, so don’t worry about it.”
“Was it really nothing?”
“….”
“Since it’s just the two of us now, I’d appreciate it if you could tell me anything you want to say.”
His sun-like golden eyes, which had been wavering indecisively, quickly avoided my gaze.
“Please don’t be upset when you hear this. What I was going to ask you that day was….”
He swallowed hard, as if he were about to say something difficult, and then slowly spoke.
“Are you perhaps acquainted with the seeker?”
“….What?”
I let out a startled sound at the unexpected question. Zion, who seemed even more flustered than me, spoke in a jumbled manner.
“I know it sounds crazy, so I was going to keep it to myself. But I kept wandering, so… I’m not doubting you, but at the time, I really thought that the seeker knew you.”
‘Gasp.’
I took a sharp breath inwardly.
Zion thought the same thing as me.
My heart pounded at the thought of being caught, but I asked nonchalantly.
“Why did you think that?”
“I saw it. The seeker’s expression before he disappeared after the game ended….”
“What was his expression like?”
“….It looked really happy. It was like he was meeting a friend he hadn’t seen in a long time.”
“A friend? Me? With the seeker?”
Zion nodded.
Was he crazy? Me, friends with that ghost?
The moment I thought that….
Throb.
A pain shot through my temple again.
“Ugh.”
The word ‘friend’ echoed endlessly in my head.
Amidst the dark memories, clouded in black fog, I saw myself smiling. In front of me was the seeker, whom I had met yesterday, and the severed wrist.
‘Could this be Heyna’s memory?’
It was unmistakable. It was Heyna’s memory, not mine.
‘Why is she with the ghosts? And with such a happy expression on her face….’
“Heyna!”
Zion supported me as I was about to fall.
“Are you okay?”
“…Yes. My head suddenly hurts a little. Thanks for holding me.”
I tried to steady myself and get up. However, my body was not listening to me.
“I’m sorry. I said something unnecessary….”
Zion was sincerely apologizing to me. However, I didn’t have the heart to respond to his apology with an “It’s okay.”.
‘What on earth is this memory…’
If this memory is from the previous Heina, why did she meet the ghosts? What did she talk about with them?
I grabbed my throbbing head at the overwhelming questions.
“Heyna, over there…!”
