I Grabbed the Tyrant’s Heart - Chapter 256
I walked slowly through the flowers that parted for me as if they were alive, talking to myself, making a vow.
Though my heart was rushing, I walked slowly, slowly toward the sword.
I took a deep breath and grasped the elegantly adorned hilt of the sword. The white blade felt both unfamiliar and strangely familiar, giving off an odd sensation.
With a swift motion, the sword slid out effortlessly, as if it had been waiting for me.
“Yes, I guess this is a sign to win.”
Having already spent a lot of time, I quickly made my way to where Weathering was.
“You’re here.”
The fairy king said as if expecting me, and I responded with a question.
“Do you know a fairy named Haniel?”
“There’s no such fairy. But there is an angel.”
“Excuse me?”
“The name of the angel who fell in love with a human is Haniel.”
Was the fairy who had guided me to the sword actually an angel?
The fairy king, knowing everything that happened in the fairy realm, grinned.
“It seems the one who feels empathy for your reckless love is her.”
After a hearty laugh, the fairy king gestured for me to follow. As I did, I saw Weathering lying completely still.
“He’s quite the persistent human.”
When I crouched beside Weathering to wake him, the fairy king spoke.
“It’s all finished now.”
“Really? Thank you for letting me know.”
Then there was no need to wake him up.
I picked Weathering up and started toward the entrance, when the fairy king asked.
“With that sword, who will you kill?”
“Would there be any restrictions on taking the sword depending on my answer?”
“No, it’s simply my curiosity. You’re an interesting human, so I thought you might have made an interesting decision.”
The fairy king’s eyes sparkled, as if she had seen something very intriguing. When I hesitated for a moment, she urged me.
“Do you know that if you create a debt with me, something good might come to you later?”
“Well then, I’ll tell you.”
Creating a debt with the fairy king? That was an enticing offer. Who knows, maybe I could obtain a fairy’s jewel later on?
“I’m going to kill the Emperor of the Southern Empire.”
“He has the blessing of the God of Light. He is an apostle of the God of Light, doing righteous deeds.”
I shrugged at the expected question.
“Honestly, I don’t know.”
“Know what?”
“The Southern Emperor, blessed by the God of Light, is driving his own people to death, even manipulating their minds. But Tess… The Northern Emperor, though bound by a contract with the devil, works tirelessly to be a great emperor.”
I left out the part about how sometimes Tess seemed to be losing his mind.
“So, who is right?”
The fairy king was listening intently.
“There’s one more thing. Because I’m of half-elf and have been given the name ‘El,’ everyone in this world believes I am pure and kind. But that’s not true.”
“Really?”
“Yes. Elves are a peaceful race, but right now, I’m on my way to kill someone. I’ve already killed many people. And my target is the soldiers of the Southern Empire, and the Emperor himself.”
The other party continued to listen intently to my words.
“If I’m considered pure, then the Northern Emperor, who made a contract with the devil, must also be considered pure. Our actions and thoughts are no different.”
“Really?”
“Yes. And frankly, I don’t move based on right or wrong. Those things are relative and complicated.”
“Then, what is your standard?”
The Fairy King asked seriously with an intense look.
“My scale is how much something matters to me. That’s what moves me.”
“Have you heard your secret?”
The question the Fairy King asked was completely different from everything I had said before.
“Yes.”
“You can live here.”
I was taken aback by the unexpected statement and wasn’t sure how to respond.
“You are a half-elf, so you can live here. In the Fairy Kingdom, there’s nothing that threatens you. Even so, will you leave?”
“Yes.”
“Even if the Northern Emperor destroys you, will you still kill the Southern Emperor?”
I had heard enough about the Northern Emperor, who, after making a contract with the devil, would destroy people and nations. I answered simply.
“Yes.”
“You never hesitate. Why leave then? Are you not afraid of death?”
The Fairy King seemed genuinely curious.
“Actually, I remember my past life.”
The Fairy King’s eyes sparkled.
“In that life, I lived a much shorter life than I do now. Because of that, when I was reborn, I had many regrets. My mind was always complicated.”
“……”
“I wasn’t always this decisive.”
In my past life, I had doubts, and I couldn’t ask others for things I wanted.
“Even in this second life, I still have many mistakes, but—”
If I had lived perfectly in my second life, I wouldn’t have let Tess make a contract with the devil, and my family wouldn’t have been banished out of Alin.
I had gone through many complicated things and suffered, but there were definitely things I had gained.
“One thing I know for sure now.”
“What is it?”
“Don’t do things that will leave you with regrets.”
Don’t leave any lingering feelings if you want peace.
“I will live my life to the fullest.”
I smiled at the Fairy King.
“I believe that if I live hard enough, the path will reveal itself.”
I was told I would die in my teens, yet here I am, still alive past twenty. So I believe the path will still appear.
“If not, I will create my own path.”
The Fairy King just watched me.
“If the Northern Emperor, who made a contract with the devil, eventually goes completely insane, I will kill him with my own hands, and if he’s not insane yet, I’ll stop him before that happens.”
“……”
“Because I’ve decided that’s what I’ll do.”
I said it with force.
