I Grabbed the Tyrant’s Heart - Chapter 248
- Obstacles
“I couldn’t find any sign of you in this damned castle.”
Ber was unusually frowning. It didn’t seem like he was angry at Tess.
“I’ve been wanting to see you too.”
I wondered if it was okay to talk about the dragons here.
Seemingly having the same thought, Ber suggested we move.
“Let’s change locations.”
“To the top. Euseniel, come with me.”
Tess wrapped his arm around my waist and teleported us. At the same time, Ber disappeared from sight.
Where we arrived was neither a watchtower nor the top of one, but rather the roof of the watchtower.
“Do we really need to talk here?”
“I don’t want to bring anyone else into our room.”
It seemed like Tess didn’t want anyone coming into our bedroom shared with the study.
Ber snapped his fingers, and the sound of the wind was cut off, leaving everything quiet. He went straight to the point.
“Ber, you said the dragons were neutral. What exactly did we do wrong?”
“That’s what I want to talk about. This is clearly a breach of the rules.”
“Then shouldn’t we stop it?”
“We can’t interfere recklessly. I want to ask the elders for their opinion, but I don’t even know where they are.”
He looked quite frustrated.
“Our Land race and the Fire race are at odds. Those guys are still young in the coming-of-age ceremony, so maybe they just didn’t know and jumped in.”
Ber clicked his tongue while still frowning.
“But the dragon’s eyes were strange. The soldiers from the Southern Empire, too. I’m suspicious because the Southern Emperor is trying to manipulate people’s minds.”
As I explained the strange feeling I’d been getting, Ber stroked his chin and nodded.
“Mind control… The price of touching someone’s soul must have been huge.”
“Isn’t that a power that comes with divine blessing?”
Just like Tess, who was able to wield such power after making a pact with the devil.
“It can happen. It can, but if it’s that strong, then it’s strange.”
“Hmm, it seems that Lux, the god who grants power, isn’t that merciful.”
“Euel, there’s no such thing as gaining power without a cost.”
Ber grinned slightly.
“In that sense, it’s impressive that you’re fighting with only your own strength.”
Before I could ask what he meant, Ber offered to lend me his power.
“The primary medium is likely the white chain that was holding them.”
In essence, he wanted me to cut the chains while he subdued the dragons.
“Is it okay for you to intervene, Ber? The humans might die in the middle of it.”
“This level of interference… Well, if it has to be done, it has to. We can’t just stand by while our people are in danger, can we? Euel, you weren’t planning to kill them next time, were you?”
He chuckled slightly.
“You don’t need to apologize to me. After all, it’s the one who interfered first who’s to blame.”
“If the dragon keeps blocking my way, I’ll kill it even if Ber holds a grudge. Whether the dragon is good or bad doesn’t matter. I need to return safely, alive.”
“You…”
It seemed Ber had noticed I now knew about the prophecy as he raised his eyebrows. But that was all.
“I’ll keep an eye on the dragons around us. When they appear, I’ll show up in my true form, and we’ll continue the operation from there.”
“I’m fine. What about Tess?”
Tess nodded, and that was the end of the discussion. Ber disappeared with the sound of the soundproofing magic being released.
Upon hearing this, General Panet slowly nodded.
“In that case, we’ll need to exclude you both from the frontline for now. You’ll need to handle the dragons.”
It seemed like he was pleased by the thought that the dragons could be stopped.
However, perhaps after taking a heavy hit, the Southern Empire had remained silent for a while. We used this time to regroup.
With some rest, we set up an extra layer of defense outside the castle.
There were no provocations, and we spent the day at ease. Then, one day, the tower bell rang.
Ding ding ding ding ding!
“Emergency!”
I instinctively realized the dragons were coming.
Since teleportation consumed a lot of magic, I ran toward the tower instead. Two dragons were swiftly flying toward the castle.
“I’ll deal with the madman. Euseniel, you release the chains.”
“Got it.”
Since this had already been decided, there were no objections.
We waited for his appearance.
By the time the small figure of the dragon came into view, a massive dragon with an emerald-colored body swept over. It was bigger and more beautifully shining than the other dragons.
The Southern Emperor’s confident smile faded, and I teleported right in front of him. Seeing his twisted face was quite satisfying.
Clang! Clang!
Before the Southern Emperor could speak, Tess fiercely swung his sword. The Southern Emperor, whose neck had almost been cut off by the black sword, gritted his teeth and released the chain he held in his right hand. It was connected to the Fire Dragon.
I jumped onto the red dragon’s back, which was lower than the green dragon.
As the chain loosened, the dragon’s mouth opened wide, and I struck its jaw with my sword. The dragon trembled.
It was a sword provided by the dragon, and it seemed to have a durable build.
As Ber pressed down on the shaking dragon with his forepaws, the dragon sank into the ground with a loud boom. There was some wobbling as the dragon struggled to free itself, but it seemed it could still stand.
Glancing upward, I saw sparks in the air as the sound of metal echoed. It seemed that the Southern Emperor was directly controlling the dragon, making it hard for Ber to subdue it.
“A weak spot.”
I quickly aimed to deal with the situation by channeling magic into the chain.
I found it.
I struck the chain tightly coiling around the dragon’s neck with my sword. I hesitated a little, concerned that the dragon’s neck might get severed, but the force of the strike was considerable.
