I Grabbed the Tyrant’s Heart - Chapter 246
Today is clear, and despite the proximity to the river, it’s an unusually dry day. In that case, fire magic is the way to go.
Boom! Boom! Crash!
The fire magic, which is particularly weak, was far more powerful than expected. The fireball that appeared in the air fell upon the Southern Empire’s army like a meteor shower.
“Uwaackkk!”
I quietly raised a defensive magic in case any debris from the explosion would fall toward our troops.
According to General Panet, both nations were exhausting their resources, so some kind of resolution would come soon. Whether they would gather enough strength to ruin the nation or agree to a ceasefire, everyone in the meeting expected the former, and as a result, I was set free.
I could use magic without holding back.
“For the glory of the Northern Empire!!”
I shouted the phrase I was accustomed to saying. The white-armored soldiers who avoided the flames rushed toward us.
This time, unlike the usual cavalry-only formations, it was a mix of cavalry and infantry. It seemed the cavalry had been wiped out, and a handful of cavalry along with an infantry force came charging.
“Spearmen!”
Seeing this, Gilton gave an appropriately timed command, and the soldiers quickly shifted their positions.
“Waaaah!”
The spears pierced through the gaps in the white armor, spilling red blood, but the Southern Empire troops didn’t stop their advance. It quickly turned into a hand-to-hand fight.
Our cavalry split into two groups, ready to strike at the enemy’s flanks. Of course, I took one side on my own.
I had put aside the idea of breaking the mirror the Southern Empire army had for now. It wasn’t the right time to reveal that we knew about it.
– We’ll wipe them out.
The Kelt staff, along with others, agreed. We all wanted to end this miserable war at once.
Weathering had gone to Count Daidi’s territory to search for the minerals. He planned to stop by Alin to seek the Chancellor’s advice. Now that I think about it, the two of them had never met in person.
Could the Chancellor figure something out when he sees Weathering?
“Hiya!”
I decapitated a Southern Empire soldier charging at me.
This is the battlefield, no time to think about anything else—focus.
Since I left the sword Tess gave me in the enemy’s lines, I brought out my old one, but the white blade felt unfamiliar. I guess I had gotten used to the black one.
As I continued to cut through the Southern Empire troops, a shadow loomed over me.
“A dragon!”
“It’s a dragon!”
The large body flew low, sending shivers down my spine, but I just scoffed.
Hah, ridiculous. Do you think I’ll fall for it twice?
I calmly continued cutting through the Southern Empire troops, but then I realized something strange. It was too real to be a fake.
The white chains binding the green dragon’s snout loosened, and something moved at the dragon’s mouth. It was a magical energy I had never seen before.
Boom!
Something flew toward the dragon, exploding with a huge sound. The shockwave from the explosion pushed the dragon’s body back, and someone lightly landed on the dragon’s body.
“Tess.”
He, dressed in a black uniform, drew his longsword.
It seemed that the Southern Emperor was there.
I rode my horse, my body swayed and I made my way toward the dragon’s wing that had touched the ground. I jumped onto the thick, solid dragon wing and sprinted.
The translucent membrane attached to the bone, about the thickness of my thigh, was so firm that it remained intact even with the force of my running.
The dragon, having regained its senses, began to level its body and pull away from the ground.
“La, Lady Hardland!”
“Lady Hardland is on the dragon!”
Amid the commotion, I climbed onto the sturdy body and saw a familiar face.
“Oh dear, Euel.”
The Southern Emperor greeted me with a pale face.
“Come here.”
“I refuse.”
“Euel.”
He called my name as though giving an order, but I just scoffed. But then, I started to feel something odd.
It felt like I needed to go to him. I needed to go to him and take his outstretched white hand.
As I took a step forward, something crinkled in my pocket. I absentmindedly touched it, and it was the mirror Ruby had given me.
The mirror that was supposed to ward off evil made me realize that something was wrong with the current situation. I bit my lip tightly, and with the pain, my senses returned fully.
I scoffed toward the Southern Emperor, who had clearly cast some dark magic on me.
“You’re not to my taste, so I’ll pass.”
“That’s right, you fool. Euseniel’s taste is me.”
I almost laughed at Tess’s smug tone, which was completely out of place for the situation.
“Regret it?”
The Southern Emperor glared at us, pulling on the long white chain in his right hand. It seemed to stretch endlessly, and soon, from behind the mountain ridge, a red dragon appeared.
This dragon was also bound by a white chain, just like the green one.
However, soon the white chain binding the dragon’s mouth loosened, and the dragon opened its mouth. It was the same action as the green dragon had performed earlier.
I had heard of this before.
It was the dragon’s signature attack, the dragon’s breath.
The red dragon, being a fire dragon, would surely breathe fire. I quickly ran toward the soldiers struggling on the ground.
“Tess, shoulder!”
I lightly stepped on Tess’s left shoulder to jump higher, leaping farther than the fire dragon.
“Whew!”
A kick that even caused a tremor!
With all my might, I brought my right foot down toward the dragon’s mouth, which was about to exhale fire.
Boom.
With a dull thud, the fire dragon’s head collided with the earth dragon. The earth dragon staggered and lost its balance, and naturally, the fire dragon closed its mouth, which had just opened.
Once again, I kicked the dragon’s body and leapt into the air. This time, I aimed to strike its hefty body.
Ugh.
I could feel a sharp pain in the tips of my feet. It seemed like hitting the dragon’s massive body, with scales tougher than iron, head-on was too much.
I targeted the dragon’s snout once more, and this time, my attack was successful.
