I Grabbed the Tyrant’s Heart - Chapter 139
In the very familiar pattern, I wanted to deny reality. But unfortunately, I was too kind to let Louise Hitty die. It’s not good that she became the target of his anger.
Tess is at fault why should the entire Hitty family be exterminated?
“It’s still raining so much…”
If I say I’m going to the palace tonight, Mother will never allow it. So the only option left is to sneak out. However, an unexpected ambush delayed my departure.
“Sister, where are you going?”
“Ga…el.”
There was no excuse as I was caught trying to climb out the window.
“Sister, are you really going to the imperial palace?”
“Shh!”
“Surely, you’re not going to meet that damned Emperor?”
“It’s not like that, Gael.”
I went into the room and explained to my younger sister.
“A little while ago when Father came, I overheard him saying that His Majesty plans to execute the entire Marquisate Hitty.”
“What?”
“That’s why I was going to meet His Majesty.”
Gael seemed stunned by the Emperor’s actions, only able to make a sound of ‘ho, ho”.
“It’s His Majesty who’s at fault, but it’s strange that Louise Hitty is the one being punished. Of course, she’s despicable too.”
“Are you going to persuade His Majesty?”
“Yes.”
I was pleased that my escape from the room seemed to be successful, so I calmly nodded my head.
“Then I’ll come with you.”
“Huh?”
“It’s raining outside, and it’s dark, so it’s dangerous. It’s better for the two of us to go together, isn’t it?”
My suddenly grown-up sister seemed determined not to back down. And at this moment, I was tormented by the anxiety that Louise Hitty’s life might be in danger.
In the end, I agreed to my sister’s request.
“Alright. Let’s go together.”
“I’ll get ready and come back.”
Gael came to my room in training attire with a cloak, and then we climbed over the window together in good spirits. It was only the second floor, so it wasn’t difficult, and the rain made it easy to hide any traces of our presence.
“Shh.”
As we arrived at the stable, Gael calmed her excited horse, and we walked towards the main gate. The cloak with a waterproof spell prevented us from getting wet, but the heavy raindrops were still quite painful.
“Who’s there? Oh, Misses?”
“Pretend you didn’t see us, we’ll be back before dawn.”
“But-”
“-Do I really need to point out the rudeness you displayed to me before?”
Despite me saying that I was the daughter of the house, the gatekeeper ignored it. So now he quietly opened the iron gate, visibly flustered.
“Make sure to come back early.”
“Yes.”
Now I just sat behind my grown-up sister and waited to arrive at the palace. Pushing the unused entrance pass into the entrance, I was able to enter the palace along with Gael, of course.
“If you stay in the rain, you’ll be cold, so wait somewhere else.”
“I’ll be waiting at Tate Palace. Remember the place where I used to play with dolls?”
“Will anyone be there? If you get caught, Father will find out, and it will be troublesome for you too.”
“I came to watch over Sister, right?”
Gael shrugged her shoulders, pushed me forward, telling me to go in soothing words. I also moved forward, battling the rain.
I couldn’t see properly ahead through the rain, and even magic couldn’t illuminate the path. I had to be careful not to run into anyone.
Shaaa.
Relying on the surrounding objects and sensations, I made my way to Hill Palace.
The rain felt like someone’s tears, softening my heart continually.
While Tess was the one who initially hurt me, I, too, left scars on him.
I still feel a sense of betrayal, but I couldn’t help but feel that I should hear his story. A voice within me spoke.
If it were someone else, I would have dismissed it in a heartbeat, but I couldn’t pretend not to have heard. In truth, the fact that I could see him because of the Hitty Family matter…
I found myself pleased.
Yes, Tess.
I will become a generous and understanding Euseniel only for you.
The Hill Palace I arrived at was completely empty. Eerie shadows loomed in the corridors, lit by the glowstones, and there was no sense of human warmth.
Splash, splash.
The sound of wet footsteps left a mark.
I quickly arrived in front of the bedroom. When I opened the thick door, a familiar sight greeted me. The monotonous room, nearly colorless, except for the wine-colored ceiling and curtains that stood out distinctly.
A tall man stood by the partially drawn curtains at the window. The light from a glowstone cast a glow on the side profile of the man gazing outside the window.
Tess, standing barefoot in the room in a loose shirt and trousers, just as he did when he visited my bedroom, slowly turned his body.
Though I had seen him just yesterday, it felt like it had been a long time since we faced each other.
“Euseniel.”
His eyes, dark as the void, showed no movement. No, they seemed so sunken that no other emotion could surface.
Feeling overwhelmed by his unfamiliar appearance, I thought of my waiting sister and spoke.
“You’re going to kill Louise Hitty?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because I wronged Euseniel.”
Anger surged unexpectedly in me.
“Why would you try to kill that woman when you’re the one who did wrong?”
“….”
“You’re the one at fault.”
“Me?”
Tess, tilting his head, resembled the innocent appearance of his childhood, when he knew nothing. My chest tightened, but I suppressed the pain.
“You gave her a chance. You acted kindly towards her, and that’s why this happened. Don’t you know that?”
“I didn’t act kindly towards her, Euseniel.”
“Don’t lie.”
“It’s not a lie. I… I didn’t even know the person next to me was a woman.”
His twisted expression looked pained, and I almost instinctively reached out to touch it.
“How could you not know?”
“Euseniel, you’re the only one who appears to me in whole.”
“What?”
“I can’t see other things properly because it hurts my eyes. It makes me uncontrollably angry when I see them.”
Tess pressed his temples and eyes that already seemed painful with his long fingers.
“You’re the only one I can truly recognize, Euseniel.”
