Chapter 20.1
“….”
“I know it’s sudden. Still, I hope you would consider it.”
“Ah…”
“If you have any thoughts, please come to Winterville mansion. If you tell them that you’re there to see April, they’ll guide you around.”
April, who had been talking enthusiastically, suddenly realized that too much time had passed.
“Oh, by the way, the conversation has gone on for too long. My company must be looking for me, so I should go quickly!”
“Yes, yes!”
“I hope you’ll give me some positive news.”
As she left the kitchen in a hurry after winking an eye, she could hear Sophia’s urgent shout from behind.
“The hall is just straight to the right!”
“Thank you!”
Holding the skirt with both hands, April ran in the direction Sophia had indicated. The scenery she had seen before appeared.
‘Asher must be very worried!’
As she picked up the pace a bit, her arm was grabbed by someone.
“What on earth are you doing here?”
It was Claude.
April, who had a guilty conscience, tried to smile as innocently as she could. Due to her sunken eyes, her hesitant smile made her face look harmless. So, in the end, Claude refrained from saying anything further and sealed his lips.
“What about Asher?”
“I told him to stay in the hall just in case we missed each other. Why did you come so late?”
“I got lost. I’m not good at finding my way around. I’m sorry.”
“Anything else?”
“Yes?”
“Did anything else happen? Did you get hurt or meet anyone?”
Even though she had met someone like he said, April decided to keep it a secret for now.
“There wasn’t anything like that. My heel got a little sore because of the shoes, but I can’t really say I was hurt that badly.”
At her words, Claude glanced at the reddened back of her ankle and clicked his tongue.
“It seems like the shoes at the mansion don’t fit you. I’ll call a tailor when we get back.”
“You don’t have to do that.”
“You’re my guest, so it is necessary. Anyway, let’s go.”
April wasn’t confident she could beat him, so instead of insisting further, she nodded once and followed him.
‘I hope Sophia comes to visit.’
As she thought so.

Sophia Sacher, who was now alone, sighed as she glanced down at what was left of her dish. Her gaze then passed the cake plate and landed on the cup with coffee stains.
She recalled what April had said a little while ago.
〈 But if Sophia’s goal is to present delicious desserts to many people, how about joining me? 〉
The thought of many people enjoying the desserts she made made her heart race. Moreover, it wasn’t just any cafe but one invested in by the Duke of Winterville. In that case, many customers would surely come and go, and she could showcase her desserts to even more people.
However, the prospect of giving up a stable position as an imperial baker was too risky.
‘But…’
Sophia remembered the taste of the Einspänner that April had given her. At first, the sweetness of the whipped cream touched the tip of her tongue, followed by the slightly bitter taste of coffee lingering in her mouth.
The coffee was strong, but it had a rich floral aroma.
Afterwards, the coffee and cream blended in her mouth, creating a smooth finish as it went down her throat. Furthermore, the sweetness of the cream lingered in her mouth at the end. Although she had never tried putting cream in her coffee before, it was a perfect combination.
Though more than anything, what she appreciated the most was April’s sincerity.
The faint smile she had when pouring the coffee. That smile was undoubtedly the smile of someone who loved coffee and wanted the other person to enjoy it.
When Sophia made desserts for someone, she also smiled and hummed a tune.
‘Besides, she enjoyed my cake too.’
She saw April’s eyes sparkle when she tasted her cake. It was the look she had longed to see when she made this cake. She imagined the sight of many people enjoying her cake and laughing brightly. It was such a contrast to the dessert that was mercilessly thrown away in the trash without a second thought, and she felt tears welling up again.
Sophia had made up her mind. It was something that didn’t need any hesitation from the start.
With a determined look on her face, she headed for the kitchen, where the head chef was. As soon as she entered, the head chef erupted with anger.
“Sophia Sacher, what did I tell you?! Didn’t I ask you to clean the floor? You haven’t done what I told you, and where have you been all this time?”
Sophia raised her eyes and looked at him with determination, almost like a glare. Seeing that, the head chef hesitated for a moment but then raised his voice again.
“Why are you looking at me like that when you can’t even do a good job? Aren’t you going to clean up quickly?
“I’m not doing it.”
“…What?”
She took off her apron.
“I’m not going to tolerate discrimination for no reason.
“I’m quitting from the kitchen where you just discriminate against others for no reason, you XX!”
