“If there’s a woman who comes to visit me, please guide her to me.”
As soon as she returned to the mansion, April told the butler, but she wasn’t certain that Sophia would come.
‘It’s not easy to leave the imperial kitchen.’
Despite the fact that it was a cafe that sold Winterville’s name, it was still a cafe that hadn’t even opened yet.
To be honest, no preparations had been made yet. She had talked to Sophia as if they were going to open the cafe in no time, though when that would happen was still uncertain. Even though Sophia was facing discrimination, the imperial kitchen was a place only skilled chefs could enter. Naturally, the salary there was much higher compared to other places.
A job where one could attain both wealth and prestige…
For Sophia, leaving behind such a stable job to join her cafe was a significant risk.
‘…Still, I hope she comes.’
April waited with hope, staying in her room for hours without changing into outdoor attire just in case. As time passed, she began to wonder if Sophia would ever come, but finally, the butler delivered some joyful news.
“Miss April, Miss Sacher has come to see you. She said she was the person you met earlier in the day. What should I do?”
April jumped up from her seat before he had finished speaking.
“Please bring her to the parlor.”
She quickly straightened her disheveled clothes and headed to the parlor. When she opened the door and entered, she saw a nervous-looking Sophia waiting inside.
Sophia, who had been sitting huddled and looking around, spotted April and let out a sigh of relief.
“Oh, you really are here.”
April grinned as she sat down across from her.
“Did you think I was lying?”
“To be honest, I was quite skeptical. It was the first time I heard about the Duke of Winterville opening a cafe. And, to be frank, I couldn’t believe that you and the Duke knew each other. I’m sorry if I offended you.”
“I apologize. It’s only natural to have such thoughts.”
She understood Sophia completely.
Even for herself, April, until a week ago, she didn’t know if she would join hands with Claude Winterville. In fact, even now, the fact that she had met him was quite bewildering. In addition, a cafe with Claude’s support… it was an absurd story no matter who heard it.
“And I was worried what would happen if the Duke punished me for coming to the wrong place.”
“Ah…”
April recalled what kind of reputation the Dukes of Winterville and Claude had in the capital.
‘…It’s not a very good image.’
On top of that, the Winterville family already had rumors surrounding them that their ancestors had made a pact with demons.
That alone made the Dukes of Winterville infamous, but the current Duke Winterville, Claude, had earned the nickname ‘worse than the demon’ due to his characteristic cynicism and ruthless temperament.
It was a joke, but there was also a saying that a crying child would stop crying when it heard the name ‘Claude Winterville.’
‘But is it really that bad?’
This time, she thought about Claude’s treatment of her. While he may be arrogant and aloof at times, it didn’t seem like he was the kind of person to make someone shake with fear like that.
April had completely forgotten how she had trembled in front of him during their first meeting.
Aside from that, she couldn’t help but laugh at the cuteness of the flustered Sophia. Right now, the woman looked like a completely different person from the one she had seen at the imperial palace earlier.
“Nothing like that will happen, so don’t worry. More than that, the fact that you came to see me means that you’ve made up your mind?”
Sophia, who had been tense until then, nodded her head vigorously.
“Yes. I want to work at the cafe with Miss April. I want to show my desserts to many people.”
“Alright. Then…”
“Before that.”
All of a sudden, Sophia got up from her seat and lifted a box she had placed next to her.
“I want Miss April to taste my cake again!”
“Cake?”
As she shouted loudly, it surprised April, who looked bewildered.
“Yes! To give a cake that fell on the ground to a benefactor, this is a disgrace to the Sacher family. If you don’t mind, please try it again!”
Even though the cake she had was already incredibly delicious, April couldn’t turn down the favor of Sophia, who had baked a new cake for her. She blinked her eyes and then made a suggestion.
She had a good idea.
“Then, how about we go to the kitchen and enjoy it together? I’d like the chef to taste it as well. Would that be alright?”
Originally, happiness grows when shared, and delicious things would taste even more enjoyable when shared.
Sophia nodded obediently.
“Yes, that’s fine.”
And so, the two of them headed to the kitchen with the cake in hand.
