Chapter 18.2
Sophia picked up the cake tray, but she couldn’t bring herself to throw it in the trash. This was her pride. It felt like discarding it would be like giving up on her own pride as well.
‘…The parts that didn’t touch the ground are still edible.’
Holding the cake with both hands and her face soaked in tears, she headed to the garden. As she sat alone in a secluded corner of the deserted garden, she began to eat the cake with her bare hands when she suddenly felt a presence nearby.
Soon, a thin and high-pitched voice asked.
“I’m sorry, but are you here alone?”
Sophia looked up in the direction of the sound, her mouth full of cake.
A woman with soft pink hair and similarly light blue eyes was looking down at her. Because of the backlight from the sun, the woman had a radiant glow around her. It was so dazzling that Sophia furrowed her brow slightly.
“Oh, my God.”
The woman looked at her with wide eyes as if surprised.
“Cake?”
Sophia Sacher would later remember this meeting for a long time.

‘…I’m completely lost.’
It was her first time wearing the new shoes, and after taking a short break in the lounge due to their discomfort, April had lost her way.
That was right. She had always been directionally challenged ever since her previous life. Even though she tried to retrace her steps and walk while recalling her memories, instead of seeing the hallway, she began to see things she hadn’t seen before.
Eventually, she reached a deserted garden.
‘Is anyone here?’
As she looked around, something rustling through the thickets caught her eye. Upon closer inspection, it was a person’s head.
April approached with a welcoming heart.
“I’m sorry, but are you here alone?”
The person she found had hair that gleamed like a vibrant shade of scarlet resembling ripe carrots. The woman’s eyes had a slightly sharp, cat-like quality, but due to the downturned eyebrows, she gave an overall impression of gentleness.
However, the woman’s appearance was something beyond words.
Her cheeks were soaked with tears from how much she had cried, her eyes were swollen, and her mouth and hands were dirty with melted chocolate.
“Cake?”
She looked at the cake the woman was holding.
One side was crumpled as if it had been dropped somewhere, and the other side had holes as if it had been nibbled on by mice. It seemed like those marks were made by that woman’s hands. A woman crying while eating cake with her hands… it was obvious that there was a story behind it.
April hesitated for a moment.
Would she pretend not to have seen and walked away, or would she try to strike up a conversation? Nonetheless, she had already initiated the conversation, and besides, she couldn’t just pretend not to have seen someone crying. So, in the end, she awkwardly smiled and sat down beside her.
“Ha-ha-ha. I got lost.”
“….”
‘Oh, that’s awkward… Should I have just left?’
Despite thinking so, April still introduced herself.
“My name is April. I went to the lounge for a moment and got lost, you know. I’m a pretty serious directionally challenged person.”
She didn’t mention the surname ‘Renoen.’
From the moment she had left her family, April had stopped using ‘Lienoen.’ She was no longer a noble, but a commoner.
Swallowing what was in her mouth, the woman replied.
“I’m Sophia. Sophia Sacher.”
Sacher? It was a familiar surname.
April reflexively looked at the cake the woman was holding. Now that she thought about it, the outside was coated with chocolate, the inside was brown, and instead of cream between the layers, there was jam.
It was a familiar sight.
‘…Is this Sacher-Torte?’
Sacher-Torter.
The representative cake that comes to mind when you think of Austria. A moist cake with apricot jam between the layers and coated with chocolate on the outside. Not only that, but the woman’s name, Sophia ‘Sacher’,’ confirmed that everything was aligning with her thoughts.
With a hint of uncertainty, April asked.
“Excuse me, but is that apricot jam inside the cake?”
The woman, Sophia, widened her eyes, which were filled with tears.
“H-how did you know that? I haven’t told anyone.”
‘It really is the Sacher-Torter…!’
April barely restrained herself from cheering. Perhaps it was because this was a world from a book. It seemed like the original author had used real-life references to create the desserts in this place.
‘And is this young lady the creator of Sacher-Torter?’
Greed arose.
The desire to recruit this talented baker.
She already needed a creative pastry chef with unique abilities. If she were the one who created the Sacher-Torter, her skills would be more than sufficient…
April, with a sly look on her face, approached Sophia a bit closer.
“But why are you crying? Why is the cake like this?”
“That’s…”
Sophia, who had just managed to hold back her tears, burst into tears again. Although she tried to say something, her emotions overwhelmed her and she couldn’t get her words out. Still, not knowing the circumstances, April couldn’t offer any hasty consolation.
‘What should I do?’
After some thought, she came up with a good idea. Someone once said that they made chicken soup for others to comfort them, but she had something she was better at than chicken soup.
“Do you happen to have a place to make coffee here?”
