I Didn't Lull You to Sleep Only for You to Be Obsessed With Me - Chapter 11
ﾟ･ : * ✧ * :･ ﾟ
After the quarrel with Sarah, April thought that the situation in the store, which only had flies flying inside, would get worse. In fact, it was like that at first. Even the people, who were glancing around with curiosity, had completely disappeared.
…But, what is this?
Customers began to gather from lunch on the day the woman visited as if the bakery owner had said something. Thanks to this, April was very busy for the first time since opening the cafe — making drinks, serving, and organizing everything by herself…
Asher tried to help her with his tiny hands, but she objected. No matter how busy she was, she could not get help from such a small child. In addition, the coffee was hot so the child could be injured. In the end, Asher just did the role of welcoming the guests with a bright smile in front of the cafe.
Those who were surprised to see him at first soon opened their hearts to Asher’s cuteness.
‘That’s a relief. Thanks to this, their prejudice against Asher will also disappear.’
April thought that all this was a dream for one day.
‘…Anyway, I’m sure they would be interested in the store for only a day or so.’
However, the next day, people came. This time, they were waiting in front of the door even before opening time.
“What’s going on since morning…”
When April asked the question with a befuddled face, the people all answered her at once.
“After drinking the coffee yesterday, my headache is all gone now!”
“My back pain got so much better!”
“Me, too! My stomach that was hurting is all better now!”
“I could work better as well! Although I pulled out weeds all day yesterday, it wasn’t difficult at all!”
‘…That could not be true.’
April, unable to understand what they were saying, squished her nose.
‘It’s true that coffee has a rejuvenating effect.’
So, she was able to understand when they said they were energized or that they had strength. Nevertheless, everything else was absurd.
‘Coffee isn’t a panacea…’
She could not believe that they had recovered from a headache or stomachache because of that. Perhaps, their condition just improved over time, and they mistook that as coffee had healed them? While it was nice to sell coffee, she could not lie.
April denied them with a face full of awkwardness.
“It’s not because of coffee. It’s true that its efficiency increases your energy due to an awakening effect, but…”
However, people listened to her with one ear and let it flow through the other.
“Anyway, give me a cup of coffee. I’ll drink it before going to work.”
“Me, too! With that sweet thing we ate yesterday!”
“Give it to me first! I’ve been having a headache since dawn, and I can’t stand it.”
“Yes, yes. I understand.”
Instead of insisting that ‘Coffee is not a panacea,’ April just made coffee for them. It was because no matter what he said, they did not seem to be listening at all.
‘It’d be nice to have a placebo effect.’
After the commotion was over, April began to prepare for the late breakfast.
Just in time, she had fresh bread brought by the bakery owner. Cutting the bread into the appropriate thickness, she then spread soft butter on one side and added plenty of cheese and ham on it. When she fried eggs that another woman had given her on top of everything, the cheese melted little by little.
She could hear Asher, who had just woken up, swallowing saliva next to her.
Likewise, it was topped with fresh tomatoes and vegetables someone gave them before finishing with buttered bread. And now, the fresh sandwich was completed.
Asher took a big bite and began to eat in a hurry as if he was hungry. April, who was pleased to see the child eat like that, tried to make a warm americano.
‘There’s no coffee beans.’
There were not many beans that had been roasted. Unlike green beans*, which do not have a specific expiration date, roasted beans lose their aroma over time. However, as there were more customers than expected, it was gone quickly.
[ T/N: Green coffee beans are simply regular coffee beans that haven’t been roasted and remain completely raw. All of the coffee’s taste and flavor potential is retained within this green seed. This potential is freed through roasting the green coffee. ]
She also could not use the leftover beans just in case a customer would come.
“What’s wrong, sister?”
As if he had read April’s awkwardness, Asher asked as he munched the sandwich in his mouth.
“There are only a few beans left.”
The child widened his eyes.
“What should we do?”
“I have some green beans stored, so I need to roast them a little later. Let’s eat first.”
In the end, April had to drink milk with the sandwich as much as it was disappointing. The bread that was not toasted on purpose was soft and chewy, and the cheese that flowed out moderately was salty and mouthwatering. Not only that, but the lettuce was also crunchy and gave another texture to the sandwich. Lastly, the ham that was added gave it the best harmony.
‘This sandwich is good for Asher because it has nutritional value.’
Finishing her meal, April glanced at Asher. Thankfully, it seemed that he had gained a lot of weight.
As she put on the apron that she had taken off earlier and tied a bandana around her head, Asher, who was tapping his tummy, crept up to her.
“Sister, what are you going to do?”
“I’m going to roast coffee beans.”
