Chapter 245

“It’s a bit, huff, more tiring than I thought.”
Panting, Sera stopped her steps, ascending and descending the staircase.
Helios, who was standing one step above her, holding Sera’s hand, turned to her with a look of concern.
“Shall we go up slowly? Thanks to Rosé and Ferre sending us off early, we have plenty of time.”
No sooner had Helios finished speaking than Sera, as if she had been waiting for the cue, leaned her body against the cold stone wall.
Her heart, unaccustomed to such exercise, pounded loudly, echoing throughout her body.
“Do we have much left to reach the top?”
“We’re about halfway there.”
Helios answered lightly to Sera’s question, who was looking up, estimating the remaining distance.
Standing a step away from Sera, Helios watched her catch her breath, his face lit with a smile just from observing her.
Feeling his intense gaze, Sera’s face turned red.
Ever since they had agreed to date, Helios had secretly taken her around various parts of the palace.
Accompanied only by a minimal number of knights, he had introduced her to many hidden, beautiful places in the palace.
The tower they were climbing today was one of those places.
Helios had explained that despite the difficult ascent, the observatory tower, equipped with a large telescope for reading the movements of the stars, was well worth the effort.
“I’ve thought this before, but it seems like you might need a bit of exercise, Sera.”
Leaning against the long railing that reached up to his waist, Helios looked genuinely concerned.
Unable to deny his remark, Sera pouted and grumbled.
“That’s cruel, Heli. Pointing out the truth like that.”
“It wouldn’t be bad to meet here each time for exercise, would it? It’s nice just being the two of us.”
“I don’t like exercising, but I do like being with you.”
Whether out of consideration for Sera or his own desire, Helios had ordered the knights to guard below the tower.
Just knowing that the watchful eyes were far away brought a sense of relief.
“Have you rested a bit? Shall we try going up again?”
“Okay.”
Helios now took Sera’s hand familiarly.
As she stood up from leaning against the wall, he gently pulled her arm to help.
“Ah—”
Sera, even though he hadn’t pulled hard, stumbled and fell into Helios’s arms as if magnetized.
Lifting her head to look at him, his long eyelashes fluttered. The hand on her waist suddenly became very noticeable.
“Sera.”
Helios called her name softly. Just hearing it made her breathless.
Thinking about it, there had been quite a few moments recently filled with similar tension.
Even though there was a door and knights outside, there were moments when it was just Helios and her, moments when such an atmosphere would develop.
Especially when words ceased and they just looked into each other’s eyes.
And Sera was not so naive as to not understand what such an atmosphere signified.
Her gaze lingered on his neat lips. Unknowingly, she slightly parted her own.
“Heli.”
His name escaped her lips like a sweet sigh.
As she gently raised her head to meet his gaze, Helios smiled with his eyes curving into gentle crescent moons.
His hand swept through her long, soft hair and then he kept drawing his body closer.
So close that only her face reflected in his eyes.
Sera, hesitating, tried to step back, but there was no space to escape.
Her hidden hands felt the hard bricks behind her.
“Uh… um…”
Helios’s shadow fell over her face. Her heart raced, and her breathing quickened.
She was certain it was the moment to instinctively close her eyes.
Hadn’t she, in her heart, been waiting for such a moment?
‘A kiss…’
But at that thought, Sera suddenly began to panic.
What should she do? Where should her hands be? How should she breathe? What about her posture?
Her blue eyes widened in confusion.
Seeing her reaction, Helios, who had been naturally leaning in, stopped.
His gaze was drawn to her reddened neck and face, and her hands pressed firmly against the wall.
‘Oh… she must be surprised.’
There had been dates with a similar atmosphere, but Helios had always held back.
Each time, Sera would flinch at even the smallest gesture and avoid his gaze.
Her feelings had to come before his own desires.
No matter how much he yearned for her, how he sought cold water in the nights to quench this deep thirst, that principle could not change.
The pace always had to be set by Sera.
Of course, it was not easy.
He knew very well that Sera was conscious of the eyes around them, hence why he had handpicked a few knights to ensure that no rumors spread.
He deliberately sought out places away from prying eyes.
But that had caused even greater problems.
Being alone in secluded places was a perfect environment to stir dangerous desires.
