Chapter 225

Sera was quite taken aback when Jean suddenly paid her a home visit, but as she did not hear any bad news, she breathed out a sigh of relief.
She had been expecting the worst, thinking that something had happened to Rosé and Ferre, instead however, the news that Jean brought was something to be celebrated.
“Their Highnesses have manifested their mana?”
“Yes, it started two days ago.”
“That’s so good to hear. It’s a cause to celebrate!”
Mana manifestation.
Sera had never experienced it in person, but she knew that it was a very special event in one’s life for the citizens of the Adelio Empire.
Mana manifestation happens only twice in one’s life, and it was comparable to the milestone of a baby’s first flip or first word. After manifesting for the second time, they would be able to use magic properly.
“Because of that, Their Highnesses are requesting that you visit, Miss Sera. Urgently, if possible.”
“Are they in pain?”
“They are, but more than that, it’s quite riotous. Mana manifestation follows the individual’s personality, so maybe it’s because of that, but theirs is a bit unusual.”
Fatigue apparent in his face, Jean heaved out a heavy sigh.
And Sera immediately understood what he was saying, which made her laugh a little.
One of the symptoms was for magic to pop out at the most random times. Just imagining that, Sera chuckled.
Sera had taught many other children, and whenever they’d have their mana manifestation, the parents would ask her to postpone classes, and after they’d meet again, they would say, ‘It’s been a long week, Teacher.’
The magic that would occur during this period, while the body was adapting to the mana within them, could hardly be controlled.
No one knew when and in what form the child’s magic would come out, so it was a custom in Adelio for parents to call in mages, staying up all night while waiting for the process to start.
“The Star Palace must be busy looking after Their Highnesses.”
“That’s an understatement. It’s not a joke, seriously—even Raphael conceded. We’ve never seen a more severe mana manifestation process than theirs.”
Grumbling more about how terrible the past few days had been, Jean quite frankly looked distressed.
Chuckling, Sera consoled him as he told her some less-than-ideal stories about what happened over there in the palace.
Soon after, he rose from his seat, saying that he should return now. Sera accompanied him to the door.
“I would have expected to be contacted about this through a letter instead. I was quite shocked when you came to visit first, Sir Knight, and I thought that something might have happened.”
“Their Highnesses said that it’s urgent.”
“I can imagine. That might be the only reason.”
Jean was now out the door, however he was lingering there instead of leaving right away. Sera thought that he must have something else to tell her.
“Is there something you have to say to me?”
“No, it’s nothing much… It’s just, after the opera, about Count Peters… I was wondering if you’ll still keep seeing him.”
“Count Peters?”
It was the last thing she ever expected to hear from him. In her surprise, she shook her head quickly.
Considering what had happened, would she really still meet that man again?
A few days ago, Countess Adriel visited her and apologized for what happened, saying, ‘I truly had no idea that he was that kind of man.’
“Never. You saw what happened that day.”
“Good, then. The Count’s poor reputation has caused a bit of a stir in high society these days. I’ll pick you up tomorrow, Miss Sera.”
As Jean left, there was a smile on his lips as though he was satisfied to hear her answer.
After closing the door behind her, Sera leaned against the door for a moment.
There was one question bugging her.
‘How did His Majesty know about that rumor in the first place… He doesn’t seem to be the type to care that much about rumors.’
When the countess had visited her the day before and apologized, she also told Sera about various other rumors.
Just as Jean said, the count’s circumstances were spreading through the ears of all those in high society, and the countess had told her the same.
But in fact, no one knew about Count Peters’s gambling addiction because of how diligently he had been hiding it. Only his closest aides knew…
Amazingly enough, the rumors about him started spreading only after he had gone to the opera with Sera.
‘Well, it’s definitely just a coincidence. His Majesty wouldn’t deliberately investigate someone for me…’
The emperor had lots of eyes and ears, so it’s only natural that information streamed in constantly.
Shaking her head, Sera banished the useless thought.

The next day, Sera visited the Star Palace.
And the moment she entered the palace and walked down the hallways, the first thing she noticed was how noisy it was all around. It’s difficult to imagine they were tending to sick children here.
A huge crash of something falling. Several people screaming in surprise. The voices of many knights.
Sera also noticed that none of the people she passed by in the Star Palace had normal faces.
They all had heavy bags under their eyes as though they hadn’t slept for several days, and the halls echoed with yawns, one after another.
It was for this reason that Sera’s hand trembled as she reached for the doorknob. She stood motionless there for a second, just looking at the door.
Half of her was curious about what a mana manifestation looked like, as she had never seen one in person before, but on the other hand, half of her was worried sick about the children.
“All of this…!”
But as she opened the door, it’s as if she entered wonderland itself. Mouth agape, she stared at the scene before her in admiration.
The room was floating in the air as though gravity had all but disappeared.
Rosé’s stuffed bunny and Ferre’s stuffed monkey were flying around while holding hands, and the air was studded with chocolate chip cookies.
Taking a step forward, Sera reached for one chocolate chip cookie that was floating in front of her. She was utterly amazed.
But before she could touch one, the array of cookies that spelled ‘♡Serra♡’ escaped her reach like fish that didn’t want to be caught.
Then, at that moment.
The dull sound of something hitting the floor rang in her ears.
And all the things that were floating in the air gently dropped to the floor. It was magic.
“Lady Popo, it’s so nice to meet you again. I apologize for not being able to greet you properly last time because of the situation. I am Roward Vhiter—I am here to help out for Their Highnesses’ mana manifestation.”
