Despite Being an Extra, I'm the Villain's Childhood Friend - Chapter 43.2
Chapter 43.2
* * *
After Michael interrupted the ball, he went out to get some ointment.
Robert and Izeline sat side by side, their insteps swollen. Robert’s instep was particularly bad because it had been stepped on by a heel.
“What should I do?”
Izeline muttered, feeling sorry.
But whether she was sorry or not, Robert was lost in thought. Looking at her side face, he was occupied with his thoughts.
‘Lady…’
It was true.
When did she become so ladylike?
He didn’t know how she looked to other people, but to him, she didn’t look like ‘Girl Izeline’ but ‘Woman Izeline.’ The feel of the back of her hand against his lips when she asked for a dance still lingered vividly.
“It’s all bruised.”
Saying so, Izeline raised her head and shifted her gaze from his instep to his cheek. It was the scar Michael had made with his rapier the other day.
“Does it hurt?”
She was more worried about his face than his instep. It was too visible.
“If you kiss it, it’ll heal faster.”
“Huh?”
“….”
“….”
In an instant, the room fell silent.
Robert made a surprised face as if he were surprised by what he had said. His ears turned red, and he added a beat late.
“Monica said that.”
Then, he hesitated and tapped his cheek with his index finger.
So now…
“You want me to kiss you?”
Surprised, Izeline asked, and Robert looked away instead of answering. His face was tense with embarrassment.
“You were worried about the pain, so I told you…”
Thud!
“….!”
Robert’s eyes widened. And that’s when Michael came in.
Click.
Startled by the sound of the door opening, Izeline straightened her upper body as if she had been burned. Still, it was already too late.
“You guys…”
Michael froze at the doorway and then came closer, barely regaining his composure.
An awkward atmosphere hung in the air.
Robert, who would usually be in high spirits and teasing, was unusually quiet. Michael didn’t like that even more. The guy’s heart, which was stiffly frozen with his flushed cheeks, must have been in turmoil right now.
As expected, Robert ran to the corner of the room as if he needed to readjust his mana.
“Oh…”
Michael knelt in front of Izeline, who was letting out a troubled groan, as if he hadn’t seen anything before he opened the lid and gently applied the white ointment to her instep.
“It would be a big deal if a scar were to form on such a pretty instep.”
“Thank you, Michael.”
Izeline looked at the sub-male lead’s face revealed between his blonde hair. He was wearing a serious expression as though he meant it. Preventing a scar from forming on her instep seemed to be the most important thing to him, at least at this moment.
“Once you’re old enough, I’ll teach you properly how to dance the dances they do in society.”
“Next time, I’ll have to take off my shoes and dance.”
Michael smiled slightly, looking up at her as she groaned. And then he uttered words she could never have imagined.
“When you turn sixteen and make your debutante, all of society will be watching you.”
“….”
“You’re so pretty, it can’t be helped.”
“Oh…”
Izeline let out an ambiguous sound at the sight of him, closing his eyes softly and speaking with conviction.
What was he talking about?
Having found an error in his words, Izeline immediately pointed it out.
“There’s no way I’ll be making a debutante. I’m a commoner, Michael.”
“I know.”
He knew, and yet he was saying this?
Thinking he had made a slip of the tongue, he averted his gaze once and continued calmly.
“There’s no exception, is there?”
Of course, it wasn’t unheard of for a commoner who caught the eye of a nobleman to enter high society, a rare occurrence like a camel passing through the eye of a needle.
