Chapter 33.1

Today’s teatime was unusual. After introducing themselves to Cassel, the women and men separated for tea time. It happened like this because the Empress wanted to talk with the women. She couldn’t help but think it was to separate herself from Cassel.
As Leilia held her teacup and took a sip, the fact that Carania was sitting next to her made her even more uncomfortable.
A sigh escaped her naturally.
“Leilia.”
The Empress called. With her smooth, golden hair elegantly styled, she commanded Leilia.
“Carania will become Cassel’s first wife, and you will be his second wife.”
In the end, it meant to become a concubine.
‘She’s telling me to step back.’
It meant that they wouldn’t ask for a divorce, so she should be satisfied with the position of a concubine.
Leilia raised her teacup.
Normally, she would’ve just listened quietly and bowed her head. If it were something only related to herself, she would have ignored it and let it pass. It was bothersome, and she didn’t want to move according to their intentions. She knew they hoped she would break down and commit adultery, though she endured it without having an affair.
However, this time, she couldn’t just let it slide.
“If my husband allows, I will do as you say.”
Trusting people was difficult for her. Especially when it came to men, and believing the existence of a husband was even more so. However, after seeing Cassel’s attitude, she decided to put up her hopes.
‘…After all, he said let’s fight this together.’.
The Empress frowned at Leilia’s words.
“Why don’t you have your own will?”
She was taken aback by the Empress’s words. When had she ever asked about her will?
“It’s my will to follow my husband’s wishes, Your Majesty the Empress.”
Leilia answered firmly.
“Cassel!”
And a little further away, Leshulean was shouting in anger. Her gaze shifted in that direction before she stood up and headed towards where Cassel and Leshulean were having tea. Even though she might face consequences later, for now, it seemed necessary to intervene.
As she approached, Cassel saw her and stood up.
“I’ll never welcome Carania as my wife.”
As expected, the Emperor was telling him to take Carania as his wife.
“My wife is only Leilia. I refuse the order to accept her as my concubine.”
He rejected everything the Emperor said.
‘The Emperor isn’t used to being refused.’
As she looked at Leshulean, his gaze turned towards her.
“Your presence is a hindrance to Cassel’s future. Do you not have any intention of stepping back on your own?”
He blatantly ostracized her. Still, Leilia looked at Leshulean and parted her lips.
“Your Majesty, I will do as His Highness Cassel wishes.”
Despite the fact that she was saying it calmly, it meant he had no intention of backing down.
The Emperor gritted his teeth and spoke slowly to Cassel.
“There’s a hierarchy in the Imperial Family. If you accept a wife of lower status, your position will also be lowered accordingly. Therefore, I cannot grant you the territory you want.”
His cold words continued.
Leshulean was threatening him with his territory.
“I’ll accept as you grant it to me. My place is there.”
Even at his words, Cassel simply stated that he would accept the territory as the Emperor decreed.
“Your territory is in the Balkan region, where a once glorious prince resided.”
Leilia’s heart wavered upon hearing those words.
‘…It’s spacious, but it’s a territory that’s completely falling apart.’
The Emperor finally made his last move.
“I’ll accept it.”
Even though Cassel surely couldn’t be unaware of it either, he accepted the territory.
Leshulean frowned at his unhesitating words before he glared coldly at Leilia. It seemed he didn’t quite wish for things to unfold this way, but he seemed to think it was her fault that things didn’t go as he had thought.
“I’ll be heading directly to the territory, so I don’t think I can attend teatime for a while.”
“Then, I’ll just call Leilia.”
At Lisseltz’s words, Cassel’s eyes turned to him.
“I’m going down with my wife.”
Cassel uttered firmly before he took Leilia’s hand and exited the garden. As they got into the waiting carriage, he sat beside her, feeling her warmth.
“The Balkan territory.”
He tilted his head.
“It’s too vast.”
“That’s not the problem. It’s a poor territory, so you’re going to have to suffer a lot!”
When Leilia pointed out something else, Cassel smiled as he responded.
“It’s just a little hardship. It’s not like I didn’t do it before.”
She fell silent at his words.
‘…It isn’t like Cassel didn’t suffer before.’
