When the Villainess Died, the Male Lead Went Crazy - Chapter 72
“Aack!”
“Run, run away…!”
“Kuagh!”
With his eyes devoid of any emotion, he slashed through everyone around him mercilessly. When Kylian came to his senses, everyone except Lilith was already dead. Even when he was completely covered in blood, he did not care.
“Where is Anais?”
Lilith looked at the bloody surroundings with tired eyes and answered.
“Lady Anais is in Farrell.”
And thus, he headed straight to Farrell.
* * *
Going to Farrell was ultimately a waste of time. Anais had already been rescued by the Duke and returned to the duke’s residence.
The kidnappers had all been decapitated. The duke was not the kind of man who would think that it would be enough just to take his anger out on those people. He had all of their families arrested, intending to kill them as well.
The families were executed in the village in an explicitly brutal manner, like entertainment. Anais didn’t seem to know that.
“Anais.”
“…….”
After coming back, Anais kept herself utterly quiet, like someone who was in shock. As it would later be recorded in his diary, Anais had to see her men tortured to death right in front of her eyes because of her.
She kept pleading to her captors that she would rather they killed her, yet all her cries were laughably ignored. She had to watch as the man who had come to rescue her was also captured and horribly butchered.
“I’d like to talk to you, even just a little while.”
“I have nothing to say, Kylian.”
Like that, she avoided him. Kylian thought she was avoiding him because of the blood on him.
He washed away all the blood stains, wiped down his body as if his skin would come off, and the next day, he waited in front of her door.
Even after a very long time, the door did not open. At dawn, through the open door, Anais, who had turned haggard, was looking at him.
“Anais.”
“Kylian.”
“…Yes.”
“Kylian, you saved your destined partner.”
“What is that…!”
Kylian realized that Anais thought that he didn’t save her.
That he saved Lilith first.
“I want some time to think by myself. So…”
“Give me just a moment.”
“Next time.”
Kylian was worried about her. He thought she would be shocked when she found out what had become of her captors and their family. Kylian wanted to prevent the innocent family members of the kidnappers from being punished. But because of Duke Percival’s wrath, they were not let go.
Kylian wanted to ease the shock beforehand. It wasn’t her fault. He wanted to tell her that she shouldn’t blame herself.
“Anais.”
“I’m sorry… Next time.”
Anais avoided his hand that reached out to hold her. Kylian wanted to at least dispel the misunderstanding that he had saved Lilith first.
Thinking that he lost Anais, he couldn’t sleep properly for days and days. He couldn’t even drink properly, let alone eat. But she knew nothing about this.
“Anais.”
Like she couldn’t even afford to listen to him, she closed the door again. What Kylian regrets the most is that he didn’t grab Anais at that moment. If he had held her hand then and told her the truth. If he had, everything would have changed.
Anais must know that he went to rescue her first, that she didn’t have to feel guilty for the families of the kidnappers because he would rescue him.
He should have told her.
* * *
Since then, Anais avoided Kylian even more blatantly. She often had conversations with her father, mostly about the kidnappers.
Duke Percival had never turned down Anais’ request. He brutally punished the people who kidnapped his daughter with blazing anger.
Kylian also struggled behind the scenes. However, as long as he was Anais’ fiancée, he was always a thorn in the Duke’s eye. And no matter what Kylian was doing, the duke interfered with everything.
But now that his daughter was also greatly misunderstanding him, Duke Percival did not have the mind to harass Kylian any more.
He could tell how much Kylian was suffering from that misunderstanding just by watching him for a bit.
“Kylian.”
It was now more usual than not for Kylian to wait for Anais at her door.
As he was waiting for her, Lilith, who was passing down the hallway, spoke to him.
“State your business.”
Kylian wasn’t happy when Lilith came to visit him. Because whenever he thought that this misunderstanding had arisen because of her, regret that he should have gone straight to save Anais rather than save Lilith only intensified.
Besides, Anais tells him that Lilith Isadora is his destined person. How painful it is to hear such words from her, who he loves more than anyone else.
“Kylian, you saved me.”
“…….”
“So I want to repay you.”
“I don’t need it.”
“Really? Didn’t you want to marry Lady Anais?”
Perhaps because of the words Lilith whispered in Kylian’s ear, his tension all went away.
“Haven’t you heard that the wedding has been postponed?”
“I heard.”
Originally, they were due to get married in three months. In the spring of his nineteenth year, he was going to marry the prettiest woman in the land. However, the wedding was postponed because of the kidnapping.
“But it will definitely happen anyway. Maybe next year. When you both become adults.”
“How do you know?”
“God told me. Do you know what a revelation is?”
“…….”
Kylian wanted to marry Anais more because of his insecurity. If he was married to her, at least Anais would not be able to abandon him as he was her legal husband. She would think of him at least once a day. She would share with him the pain she was going through.
“Do you know why Lady Anais isn’t meeting you?”
With those words, Kylian realized that he couldn’t ignore Lilith any longer. He grabbed her shoulder, looking at her as she spoke. It was very unpleasant to be so close to her face.
“It is because Lady Anais loves you. That’s why she hated that you came to rescue me.”
