When the Villainess Died, the Male Lead Went Crazy - Chapter 150.2
At the banquet, it was customary for the Empress to give the opening speech.
Standing on the central balcony with Anais, Kylian only had to gaze at her. It was familiar for him to lose himself in her presence, unable to hear anything around him.
“Thank you all for attending tonight. I hope this year will bring meaning to everyone…”
Anais’s elegant voice rang out across the ballroom.
Kylian thought that it was nice seeing Anais in a dress, instead of her usual uniform. She had always worn uniforms when he first knew her, even as the Young Duke.
It was rare for him to see Anais in a dress, and whenever he did, it reminded him of their wedding day.
Every time he saw her in a beautiful dress, his heart would race uncontrollably. It felt as if his heart were pounding wildly, as though he had stopped suddenly after running at full speed, his body revealing his existence in the most overwhelming way.
“…And so, I would like to share with you that we are holding tonight’s celebration under the blessings of the gods. As the Empress of the Cypnos Empire, I stand here today…”
The sparkling chandeliers, her diamond earrings, the necklace adorning her neck, all seemed insignificant compared to the unique beauty in her eyes.
As he looked into her clear eyes, Kylian felt a sharp pain in his chest and, without realizing it, swallowed hard. Beneath the necklace, he noticed the faint mark left by his own kiss, and he blushed.
Though covered by makeup and hidden by the necklace, the faint red mark remained.
“Please, enjoy tonight’s celebration.”
When she was done, applause filled the air.
Anais finished her speech and immediately turned to look at Kylian. Seeing her smile brightly at him, Kylian couldn’t contain the loving feeling that welled up inside him.
“I love you, Wife.”
“You know we’re in the middle of an official event, right, Kylian?”
“I want to go to the bedroom without going down there.”
“No, come here.”
Anais narrowed her eyes slightly but then smiled again, taking his hand and leading him down.
The nobles below the balcony clapped their hands, then lowered their heads, lifting them again when Anais gestured.
“The first dance should be ours.”
“Of course.”
“And no kissing this time while dancing.”
“I swear, it wasn’t intentional that time.”
“I know. But don’t just stand there dumbly again like last time.”
“Didn’t you like it?”
“Well, it wasn’t that, but… it was a little embarrassing.”
As they reached the first floor, Kylian smiled just like her and said,
“We also did our vow kiss?”
“Oh, right, that too. Kylian, did you know that during the wedding vow kiss, it’s supposed to be just a light touch of lips, not a full kiss? Who kisses like that in an imperial wedding?”
“Who said that?”
Kylian laughed at Anais’s words. Anais, feeling like she shouldn’t mention who had said it, subtly rolled her eyes.
“Does it matter who said it? The problem is that we kissed in front of everyone without knowing better.”
“Why is that a problem? It was our wedding, not anyone else’s. If you were embarrassed, I wouldn’t have done it. But it’s really upsetting and sad that we couldn’t do it for such an unreasonable reason.”
Kylian looked at her seriously, with a sad expression, and Anais oddly felt that he had a point.
“Well, that’s not what I meant… I wasn’t trying to upset you.”
“Well, let’s just hold back, then. Completely abstaining would be too cruel.”
“Ye, yes.”
Anais felt a little deceived by how quickly he had calmed down, but she didn’t mind it.
They finished their light argument and were about to take their positions to dance.
“Wrap your arms around my neck.”
“Why?”
“Then you should step on my feet.”
“This is something my dad used to do often.”
“That’s exactly why I want to do it.”
Kylian knew this wasn’t the kind of thing an imperial family member would do at an official event, but after hearing that Phileal and Anais had danced like this before, he wanted to do the same.
“Again, I’m reminding you, we are at the New Year’s banquet, right?”
“That’s why it’s more special. You’ll be dancing with me on the most special day of this year.”
Anais realized that Kylian hadn’t spared her a single word since earlier. Normally, he would try to keep his composure in front of her, but now…
The problem was, she didn’t really hate it.
“Is this okay? But if I step wrong, your toes might break.”
“It’s fine.”
“I’m wearing shoes with really high heels.”
“If they break, we’ll treat them. You’ll take care of me, right?”
Kylian said this with a joyful smile as Anais lightly stepped on the front of his shoe.
“Then let’s begin.”
As the music started, Kylian led Anais in the dance, mocking Phileal and Lilith, who were watching them from behind.
