When the Villainess Died, the Male Lead Went Crazy - Chapter 136.1
“Lilith has disappeared.”
In the Emperor’s office, Empress Anais had come to see Kylian.
Anais, the Young Duke of the Percival family, had taken on the title of Empress, and in doing so, her family name changed. She had made her original surname her middle name, so now her full name was Anais Percival Cypnos.
“Who is that?”
As Kylian reversed time, Lilith’s existence also vanished from the world.
“Kylian. Don’t you remember? Lilith, the saint who was always by our side. She had blonde hair and golden eyes.”
“No, I don’t remember. I prefer platinum blonde hair and sapphire eyes.”
Since marrying Anais, Kylian had found stability. It seemed Anais had found it too.
But for some reason, she still carried memories of Lilith and was determined to search for her.
In this world, no one remembered Lilith. After the disappearance of Goddess Julias and the rise of other gods, the entity that had sentenced Lilith to endless punishment was gone.
Thus, even Lilith, who had lived as a human only to face punishment, vanished without a trace. No one remembered her, and the place she had once occupied was completely filled by someone else, leaving no void behind.
“Kylian.”
“I believe in you, Wife. Someone like that might have existed, but they are unknown to me.”
When he was alone with her, Kylian no longer referred to her as Empress. He called her ‘Wife’ because he wanted her to feel fully his.
Moreover, Anais felt more embarrassed when he called her ‘Wife’ than when she was called Empress.
“Kylian, the saint of Goddess Julias’s Temple…?”
“What do you mean by saint?”
“A person chosen by the gods. She was only at Godess Julias’s Temple.”
“Is there such a thing as someone born to be a priest? How curious.”
Kylian spoke in a gentle tone as if he had just discovered something amazing. Anais opened her mouth, then closed it again, her face soon turning down as tears began to form.
“Wife.”
“Yes…”
“Wife, why are you crying?”
“It’s nothing.”
Kylian stood up and approached Anais. He knew why she had become so downcast. From the way she came to him, he knew she had likely dreamed of Lilith.
“Kylian.”
Kylian slowly hugged her. He knew that she was shy about showing affection this way, but that wouldn’t stop him.
“There is someone who only I remember in this world.”
“Yes.”
“But it doesn’t feel like a dream. I remember it so vividly, but why does no one else know about it?”
“That’s not because of you, Wife. It’s because others are mistaken.”
“What if I’m the one who’s strange?”
“Then I’ll be strange too.”
At Kylian’s words, Anais quietly accepted his hug. She felt a deep ache in her heart as she thought about how Lilith had vanished as if she never existed.
“Kylian, you have your destined partner.”
“My destiny is you, Wife. I became the Emperor to accept my destiny.”
He said this, pulling Anais even tighter into his arms. She gently closed her eyes, feeling his heartbeat and hearing his trembling voice.
“What if it’s not me?”
“If it’s not the wife, I’ll change my destiny. Because I already love you.”
“What if, someday, Kylian’s destined partner appears…?”
“Then I’ll kill them.”
“Excuse me?”
“I mean….”
Kylian regretted his words as they reminded him of Lilith, but he held Anais even tighter.
Still, his words were true. If Lilith appeared again, he would have no hesitation in ending her life. He didn’t think it would happen, but if it did…
He knew that Lilith had gathered her strength for Anais. But what he couldn’t forgive was how she used him to create a rift between her and Anais.
Aside from his inability to forgive Lilith, he also couldn’t forgive himself. He couldn’t forgive the version of himself who had failed to recognize her sooner. That was why he feared that Anais might eventually remember those events. He was terrified that, if she did, her feelings would turn into resentment toward him.
Kylian was afraid of being abandoned by Anais for reasons he hadn’t yet understood. If there were even the slightest sign that she was remembering the past, he would be consumed by anxiety, spending hours in turmoil, afraid she would turn her anger on him.
Of course, he planned to tell Anais everything someday. But now wasn’t the right time. The Cypnos Empire hadn’t fully stabilized yet, and Anais still hadn’t fully come to terms with her feelings for him like she had before time rewound.
