Clang. Lillith was surprised when Anais willingly dropped her sword and looked at her in shock.

“Dropping your sword for a woman who won’t even die… how pathetic.”

“Ugh…!”

At that moment, a restraint was fastened around Anais’ neck, draining her strength and preventing her from wielding a sword.

“Stop it!”

Lillith’s voice wouldn’t come out. She knew it wasn’t magic that was stopping her voice—it was undoubtedly the power of Goddess Julias, telling her not to speak.

“Please…!”

Anais was the one screaming in anguish.

After being kidnapped, Lillith and Anais were transported to the port of Veros. On the way to the kidnappers’ base, a man tried to rescue them.

“Lady Anais!”

The moment he called her name, the man’s head was severed. The knight with golden hair and golden eyes was one who had followed Anais, someone she had trained and spent time with since childhood.

“Sir Kirke!”

Anais collapsed to the ground, crying. Lillith didn’t shed a tear. She felt as if everything was her fault.

The knight who had come to rescue Anais was someone precious to her, which made his death even harder for Anais to bear. He had entered a dangerous situation in an attempt to save her, and in doing so, lost his life.

“Haha, look at this. Even a nobleman’s head is no match for a blade.”

“Huuh…”

All the knights, including Sir Kirke, who had come to rescue Anais, were all killed before her eyes. When Anais tried to escape and failed, she was brutally beaten.

“We promised to pay as much money as you asked for! Why did Sir Kirke have to die…huh!”

Anais glared up at the kidnapper’s leader, who twisted his lips as he stepped on her hand.

“You think the amount you can offer is enough?”

“We promised the entire annual budget of the Duchy!”

“An annual budget isn’t enough. We’ve staked our lives on this.”

Anais’ hand was ruthlessly broken. Lillith, helpless and frustrated, struggled, but she couldn’t use her healing power to help her due to the restraint on her neck.

After several days in despair, both women were finally rescued by the Duke and Kylian. However, the problem was that Kylian had come to rescue Lillith, not Anais.

The Anais who returned was changed.

“Ah… Lillith, you’re here?”

She had never been one to fake a smile before.

“I’m not dressed to receive guests. Sorry.”

Lillith knew that Anais wasn’t fine, even though she pretended to be. After returning to the mansion, Anais refused to meet anyone except her father.

“Lillith, are you okay?”

It was the first time Lillith had seen Anais not in a neat uniform, her hair not tied up.

“Lady Anais?”

“Yes.”

“Lady Anais is not okay.”

Anais’ expression suddenly softened, as if the mask she had been wearing was being peeled away.

“It’s not Lady Anais’s fault.”

“It is. If I hadn’t been so foolish…”

“The bad ones were the people who did this to you. Why are you blaming yourself?”

At these words, the smile Anais had been forcing fell apart.

“Lady Anais did nothing wrong.”

“But my subordinates…”

“They were willing to lay down their lives for you.”

“That’s not true. No one should have died for me. I’m not worthy of that.”

“Why not? I…”

Lillith walked toward the crying Anais. Anais took a step back, but when she saw Lillith still approaching, she stopped.

“If Lady Anais had died, I would have died with you.”

“You can’t. You have your own life.”

“Yes. It’s my life, so I get to choose.”

“No, I want you to be happy with Kylian.”

Hearing this, Lillith thought that Anais knew the full extent of Goddess Julias’s plan.

“Is that really what you want?”

“…Yes.”

Anais’ blue eyes, gazing directly at her, were like a sea, undulating with emotion.

“I understand.”

Lillith believed that Anais needed to realize something for herself: who she truly loved, and who loved her in return.

Once she accepted that, her relationship with Kylian could be restored before the coup.

Lillith thought Anais knew more than she let on. She must have known of Goddess Julias’s plan, and that’s why she had been living for Kylian, fighting against the destiny to help him live a better life.

Lillith couldn’t be mistaken about Anais’ heart. Just as Kylian was looking at Anais, Lillith had also been looking at her.

It started with suspicion, and now perhaps it was admiration.

When Lillith was born as the God of Chaos, the humans created by the God of Order were mysterious beings to her.

Endless possibilities and unpredictable actions.

And yet, how passionately they lived in their short lives. Among all the creatures, they were the ones she could never help but love.

Lillith had almost forgotten this feeling, but every time she was with Anais, she could feel, without a doubt, that she was still alive.
