When the Villainess Died, the Male Lead Went Crazy - Chapter 120.2
Lionel glanced at Leviathan, who was also looking exhausted. Watching Kylian pursue Anais while dealing with the affairs of the temple was physically demanding.
The High Priest of Death had escaped. Although Kylian seemed unaware, Leviathan knew. It seemed that Mephist, the High Priest, wanted the God of Death to manifest in this land.
In the past, Leviathan would have thought it inconsequential if the God of Death manifested and wiped out all creatures. Life had been tedious, and everything felt empty and dull.
But not now. He didn’t wish for the world to end.
Moreover, the High Priest of Life had vanished. If the crazy Emperor in front of him learned this fact, it was clear he would shift his focus and torment Leviathan instead of the Magic Tower Master.
“Let’s use the ship.”
Leviathan suggested that deliberately. One of the gates must surely be linked to the High Priest.
He thought about the circumstances of the High Priest’s secret movements. Although he had been indifferent to his surroundings, he had noticed that. He had witnessed Mephist moving in secrecy.
“It takes two days, right? If we push ourselves, we could arrive in just one. We also have the Magic Tower Master on our side, Your Majesty.”
At Leviathan’s words, Kylian let out a deep sigh. Another day to wait. He needed to see Anais right away. His heart raced, and with every breath, it felt as if shards of glass were coursing through his veins, causing anxiety and pain throughout his body.
“If we begin the search, it’s hard to say how long it will take.”
Hearing this, Kylian released the Magic Tower Master’s collar.
“We’ll use the ship immediately.”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
Lacey, the captain of the imperial guards, quickly responded from the back and gestured to his subordinates.
* * *
It took an hour to prepare the ship. In reality, that was an almost miraculous amount of time, but Kylian didn’t even think to praise it.
He boarded the vessel and set sail immediately, but even with the clear sky and transparent sea, everything felt suffocating to him.
Unlike the passenger ship that Anais and Phileal had taken, this was a military vessel, making it too windy to stay outside, and it was incredibly fast.
Still, Kylian couldn’t wait inside, so he stepped out onto the deck.
As night fell, the sea breeze grew stronger. The guards accompanying the Emperor were already shivering from the biting cold. Yet Kylian continued to gaze out at the ocean, desperately waiting to catch sight of Ensest Island beyond the horizon.
“Your Majesty.”
The Captain of the Imperial Guard, Lacey called out to him, kneeling as he spoke.
“You haven’t slept a single night properly since that day.”
“…….”
“You cannot keep pushing yourself like this.”
From the moment Kylian realized that Lilith who had left him was Anais, he hadn’t slept a wink.
Whenever he closed his eyes, he saw Anais leaving him with a look of blame, and when he opened them, he was faced with the reality that she had abandoned him, so it was impossible to rest.
Thus, he had hardly gotten any sleep at all.
“How can I sleep?”
“Your Majesty, if you collapse like this, you won’t be able to see Lady Anais.”
Those words pierced his heart. If he died like this, he would never see Anais again. But until he laid eyes on her, he couldn’t quell this anxiety.
“I can’t sleep.”
He blurted out, not even realizing how trembling his voice sounded.
“Your Majesty, please believe in my loyalty.”
Then Lacey, the captain of the imperial guards, pulled a vial from his pocket. It contained a painkiller from the now-rare Temple of Morphis.
“I remembered the prescription you received before, so I prepared this in advance.”
“If I take that, my wife will always be disappointed in me.”
“But you need to take it if you want to sleep.”
Kylian looked at the familiar long bottle of liquid he was being offered. This had been the only way for him to meet Anais during the times when she was asleep. However, it was also the method that Lilith had used to manipulate him.
“I’d rather try to sleep on my own than use that.”
Kylian made his way to the bedroom, forcing down the temptation that had almost taken hold of him. His heart raced, and his stomach churned. His mind felt as if it had been coated with dark paint.
Still, he knew that sleeping was the only way to meet Anais again. If he died like this, he wouldn’t be able to see her.
As he entered the room, the bed came into view. But he didn’t intend to sleep in it. Instead, Kylian curled up on the floor, as he had done in his childhood.
“I’m so glad you came here, Kylian.”
He recalled the dreamlike voice that had welcomed him in his youth.
